Wildhorse Golf Club of Robson Ranch - South/West Course
About
The Wildhorse Golf Club is the first of three planned courses for the Robson Ranch Community outside of Denton. Designed by architect Gary Stephenson, the course opened the second nine in October 2002.
The signature hole is on the front, a 566-yard par 5 that requires a monster drive followed by two demanding approach shots.
Getting there : From Dallas take I-35 to Denton and look for the 35 W split. This takes you back towards the south to Fort Worth for 6 miles, where you’ll take the Robson Ranch exit. Drive 1.5 miles west and look for the course.

Windy Round
Easy to get to off I-35, booked round just one day in advance. First time to play, bag drop was confusing, member told me twice no cars allowed in the designated area. Pro Shop staff agreed it is messed up. Teed off late afternoon, mid-week, very few on the course, course in great shape. Couple of greens where thin and one green totally under repair. Otherwise is was excellent, and bunkers were very well maintained. The twilight rates have started already. Two-some played 18 in just 3hrs 15 min. Nice dinner in the grill afterwards.
As advertised
For spring the course condition was about what I expected so I rated it as good. The course is very playable even for a first round. Having the aid of the course handbook and a yardage device was key was key to the first round enjoyment. I'll come back the next time I'm in Dallas.
Not worth the money
Ground under repair around almost every green and some fairways. Some greens themselves were in bad shape too. Most courses discount their green fees when course conditions are a bit off. This review would look different if they charged $30 or so. Instead, we played $44 which was the cheapest rate of the day...the prevailing rate was $55-$60. Not really sure the course would be worth that even if the course was in good shape.
Also, beware that cart girls only have beer (no liquor).
Those were the two negatives...otherwise the staff was friendly, and the course had a nice layout. Not overly difficult, but not easy either. Sand traps were in excellent shape which is overlooked at a lot of other courses. At least when your ball finds a trap out here, there is nice sand to hit out of.
Pretty good track
This is a pretty good track. The course is usually in good condition. Not so much right now at the end of March but it looks like they have it going in the right direction. So it should be in great shape in a few weeks. It is pretty wide open and no mature trees so if the wind is blowing (and it usually is) it adds to the difficulty. Some holes have a punitive rough.
Houses are everywhere but safe except for the wildest of shots.
Golf pro in the pro shop was scum
Would never play here again. Should not be open to the public. absolute joke of a golf course. Complete waste of time.
Great Course!
Greens a little slow but March conditions call for it. Overall great course. A little slow at times.
Windy Day
The course was in excellent condition for winter. The staff were very helpful throughout the experience. Would definitely like to play again.
Excellant course conditions, greens always roll true. Pace of play typically very good here.
Great place and pace!
Played in just about 3 hours. Staff was super friendly and greens were great!
Worth the Drive, Love the Course
Was a huge fan of this course. They definitely go the extra mile in a lot of ways. Nice practice area, nice clubhouse and bar, most of the fairways were overseeded. Just a really nice course and I can tell it will be even better once it warms up and grass starts to grow in. I look forward to being back.
Hidden Gem in Denton
Great course! The locals are great people to play with.
Fun course, course was in great condition.
Greens, fairway, bunkers everything was perfect. They put a lot of effort keeping that course in shape, and you can see it.
The course was packed!.
The starter had 4 groups waiting on the first hole, a lot of seniors playing, foursome after foursome. Me and my friend were just waiting to tee off, and they sent us as a twosome, right on time. All I was thinking was, 5 hour round, be patient.
After we finished I checked my phone and it only took us 3 hours and 40 min to finish, all the people playing was really friendly, some of them let us play, but every time we jump one group there was another waiting, so we didn't even try to jump more groups, at the end it was a great round. We are definitely going back.
Slow pace of play
Our afternoon sucked due to the very, very slow pace of play with multiple groups of hackers. No one would let us play thru, the course was over stacked and the marshalls were non existent today. The course conditions were consistent and greens are good. I'm sticking with my Collin County courses with better amenities and value which are typical of courses that take care of the real golfers.
Accuracy off the tee
This course will not allow you to step up and bang the driver on every hole. You must think about tee shots and then many approach shots will have hazards to catch your attention.
We will be back
We will be adding this course to our list of regular places to play
Not worth $50.00
The course layout was nice and staff SUPER friendly. The greens were in good shape, but most tee boxes needs improvement. It just wasn't a $50.00 round of golf, especially after I drove an hour to get there. And lastly, the Clubhouse closes at 4 so forget about getting something to eat afterwards. I wished someone had said something to us in advance so we could have planned ahead, I was starving ;-(
Great course, but grumpy old ladies behind us.
Course and staff awesome. Pace slow but it was friday with perfect weather so a little crowded. Ladies behind us were impatient and rude. Other than that awesome time and great value.
