The Trails of Frisco Golf Club
About
The Trails of Frisco golf course is one of Jeff Brauer’s most unique designs -- primarily because it doesn’t fit the mold of his other courses. Brauer, who’s known for his open, straight-forward courses, designed this one to tip out to a par 71, 6,900 yards, loaded it with hidden creeks, scenic wetlands, extensive bunkering, and massive greens. In fact, first-timers will be confused here. They’ll face intimidating views off the tee that leave doubt as to the problems that loom ahead, and it is definitely possible to lose all of your balls off the tee if you’re struggling.
The golf course is just flat-out challenging, especially on the front nine. No. 1 opens up with a creek on the left that cuts in front of the green and generally makes its presence known on every shot. The play here is to stay right and stay away from its subtle presence on the left side. The creek comes into play on Nos. 2, 4, 5, and even No. 9, where it chutes from the fairway in front of the green and surrounds the green of this challenging par 4.
All told, water and waste areas are in play on 16 of 18 holes (including every par 3), and the creeks are enhanced by visible lakes and ponds on the back side, even though it is considered a bit easier than the front.

Nice Course- We'll Maintained
The greens were well kept, fairways good condition, and pace of play was good at 4pm.... I'll definitely be back.
Marshall Needs Training
Number 12 has return to cart path signs about 150 yards from the green. We were way right off the tee and didn’t see them and returned to cart path about 120 yards from the green at which point the Marshall pulled up and said we were abusing the course. I asked how and he pointed to the signs about 30 yards behind us. I said I’m sorry we were way right and I didn’t see them but will be careful. That wasn’t good enough he continued to ask if we played golf before and if we’d played this golf course and again that we were abusing the course. Don’t know what else to say except sorry we didn’t see the sign. After a good minute or two of telling us how awful we were for not seeing the sign he drive up to 12 green and literally ran up the hill to the green to tell the guys we were playing with they were tearing up the course and that they didn’t get back to the cart path before the signs either. We couldn’t have been more sincere with our apologies but this guy was way over the top. The golf course is fine but if you guys are going to have Marshalls on the course you need to train them to interact with customers. Had we done that before then I could see where his attitude came from. Former head golf professional here and I’ve trained Marshalls and done the task before and this is not how you approach a group for the first time.
Great condition. Put the driver away on a lot of these holes
This course is in good shape. Tee boxes and greens are solid. There a lot of lay up shots especially with the ground so hard. 50 yards of roll or more puts you OB on a lot of holes from the blue tees. They have a lot of holes with hazards in the middle of the hole. It’s challenging. Only downside is bring cash for the cart girl. They take your card and of course I forgot it.
Bring a lot of balls
Course was in better condition then any of the other places I play, but it was also tough, especially it being my first time playing there. If you do come here bring to A game and extra balls.
Great Course
The course is in great shape. Fairways and greens in top condition. Vey challenging course !
Not great but not terrible
Course in good condition except golf balls along the fairways from nearby homes. Not much drinking water on the course so simmer will be brutal. Lacking in amenities for the price. If you bring your own water and mark your golf balls clearly. Do recommend for the course conditions and lay out
Its not my first trip to this course. Though i seem to always be at it after a rain. I believe it rained 2 days before and the traps were pretty washed out still. Sand needs work anyway. Front 9 has a few holes where the fairway and tee boxes were pretty bad shape...holes 2, 3 to name a couple. Course has a creek that winds through it and some mid fairway heavy brush areas that add some challenge to the course. Greens were fairly smooth and maybe a touch slow. We (two golfers)waited on most holes for the two threesomes in front of us. But we made decent time getting around the courese. Had one visit from the beverage cart and she was kind enough to warn us it was the end of her shift and service was done for the day. The bridges need some work for sure. The course feels a bit over priced vs its condition but i would go again.
Always enjoy playing this course
Played many times and have always enjoyed playing here. I was worried as many courses don’t seem to be in the best shape but I was happy. Greens and fairways were in nice shape.
Where was Jim Nance???
Wow. Want to play a challenging course? A course in pristine condition like those you see on TV? With just
perfect greens? Give these guys a try. The price is right, and you will be back. Guaranteed.
Great layout
So played on a Wednesday at 9am and arrived to learn that the range is closed until 9am on Wednesdays for “maintenance”. Funny, I looked out on the range at 8:30 and there wasn’t a soul on the range. Anyway, I inquired in the pro shop about the chance of hitting a bucket and was turned away (by a rude employee). It’s a shame, because this is a shot making layout and not having a chance to dial in before a round makes it a challenge.
The layout of this course is really nice. You’ll use every club in your bag along the 18 holes, which I think it the mark of a good design. The layout brings water (or creeks) into play on almost every hole, but if you play conservatively, it isn’t apt to cause you too much havoc. The course is also well bunkered, but I found the bunkers too often lack sand.
Greens on the course were very nice, but a bit slow. They didn’t seem to have too much wear or tear on them yet this season. Fairways were okay, but are still suffering from what I assumed was a bit of winter kill. Tee boxes were very disappointing.
I’ll be back, but just not for an early round on a Wednesday.
