The Trails of Frisco Golf Club
About
The Trails of Frisco golf course is one of Jeff Brauer’s most unique designs -- primarily because it doesn’t fit the mold of his other courses. Brauer, who’s known for his open, straight-forward courses, designed this one to tip out to a par 71, 6,900 yards, loaded it with hidden creeks, scenic wetlands, extensive bunkering, and massive greens. In fact, first-timers will be confused here. They’ll face intimidating views off the tee that leave doubt as to the problems that loom ahead, and it is definitely possible to lose all of your balls off the tee if you’re struggling.
The golf course is just flat-out challenging, especially on the front nine. No. 1 opens up with a creek on the left that cuts in front of the green and generally makes its presence known on every shot. The play here is to stay right and stay away from its subtle presence on the left side. The creek comes into play on Nos. 2, 4, 5, and even No. 9, where it chutes from the fairway in front of the green and surrounds the green of this challenging par 4.
All told, water and waste areas are in play on 16 of 18 holes (including every par 3), and the creeks are enhanced by visible lakes and ponds on the back side, even though it is considered a bit easier than the front.

Golfer Reviews
Always enjoy playing this course
Played many times and have always enjoyed playing here. I was worried as many courses don’t seem to be in the best shape but I was happy. Greens and fairways were in nice shape.
Where was Jim Nance???
Wow. Want to play a challenging course? A course in pristine condition like those you see on TV? With just
perfect greens? Give these guys a try. The price is right, and you will be back. Guaranteed.
Great layout
So played on a Wednesday at 9am and arrived to learn that the range is closed until 9am on Wednesdays for “maintenance”. Funny, I looked out on the range at 8:30 and there wasn’t a soul on the range. Anyway, I inquired in the pro shop about the chance of hitting a bucket and was turned away (by a rude employee). It’s a shame, because this is a shot making layout and not having a chance to dial in before a round makes it a challenge.
The layout of this course is really nice. You’ll use every club in your bag along the 18 holes, which I think it the mark of a good design. The layout brings water (or creeks) into play on almost every hole, but if you play conservatively, it isn’t apt to cause you too much havoc. The course is also well bunkered, but I found the bunkers too often lack sand.
Greens on the course were very nice, but a bit slow. They didn’t seem to have too much wear or tear on them yet this season. Fairways were okay, but are still suffering from what I assumed was a bit of winter kill. Tee boxes were very disappointing.
I’ll be back, but just not for an early round on a Wednesday.
Great condition
Course was in great condition and greens were super.
Needs Some Improvement
I found the pace of play to be a bit frustrating at 4:40, but some of this is due to the course itself. You have one of the worst-designed holes ever on #2 and a couple of holes where you have to maneuver through creeks and ditches and elevated greens, which are above average in difficulty for the average golfer (#9 is another one). If the course can get it, more power to them, but $85 + tax for this track is a pass unless it's the only option.
Spend elsewhere
Course conditions do not warrant the price, not even close
Course was incredibly dry and tee boxes in bad shape. The greens were in pretty good shape.
Needs some work to get a better than 2 rating.
Course is not very well maintained. Fairways were spotty and some had minimal grass. Greens we inconsistent and there was a lot of debris in some areas off the tee boxes and greens. This course was not worth the $136 I paid for my grandson and myself. It has been awhile since I played this course and I was disappointed. I won't go back anytime soon.
Bad conditions
So sad to see such a nice course in such terrible conditions. It was like playing at a $9 a round course. Can’t believe I paid $65 to play on such a terribly maintained course. Weeds everywhere. Dead patchy grass. Just a really bad experience. This place needs a new manager or something asap or it’s never going to recover.
Horrible shape
This used to be a great course, very challenging layout. However, the owners refuse to put any money into it to take care of it. The greens are full of poanna, the sand traps are horrible, and the fairways are bare no full of weeds. Don’t even get me started on the tee boxes! It has so much potential but again ownership just sucks money and doesn’t care about the condition. Also, the driving range has old balls and a mix of found balls that they stamp with “practice” on them. Just so disappointing!!
The Trails is in bad shape
I have been playing the Trails for 10 years. The greens are in good shape however the rest of the course is turning to garbage. I have never seen so many weeds and the fairways are concrete. The tee boxes are mostly dirt.
Need to water more
The greens were in pretty good shape, but most tee boxes did not have grass and were dirt. The fairways were pretty hard and not much grass there either. Seems like they need to water more.
Absolutely Awful
This is the worst condition I’ve ever seen this course in. Tee boxes are dirt, fairways are rock hard, bunkers are trash and there are weeds everywhere around the greens. See photo of the fourth green and surrounding area. The areas around the rest of the greens look fairly similar.
The greens were not quite as horrible as the rest of the course. Unfortunately some of the greens were rock hard, there’s a lot of Poana on quite a few greens and the pin placements were pretty bad. The pin placements at this course are always questionable, normally that can be looked past if the course is properly maintained.
Pity that the course cannot be maintained, used to be a good track.
Inconsistency everywhere
Bunkers are really inconsistent. Greens are struggling. Fairways are sparse. Tees are thin and rock hard. Good layout just needs to step up their maintenance game.
Very disappointing round
Course was in poor condition. The pro shop charged more than what the reservation was made for because it was a holiday. $82 for Rock hard, dirt tees and fairways. Greens were in decent shape. Course layout is very poor and penalizing for no reason. Driving range was poor. Range balls were old and dead balls. Scattered all over adjoining holes.
Will not be back.
Great afternoon
Played with my son and had a really good time. They have a junior rate, so it was a great value. Challenging layout in the windy conditions.
