The Trails of Frisco Golf Club
About
The Trails of Frisco golf course is one of Jeff Brauer’s most unique designs -- primarily because it doesn’t fit the mold of his other courses. Brauer, who’s known for his open, straight-forward courses, designed this one to tip out to a par 71, 6,900 yards, loaded it with hidden creeks, scenic wetlands, extensive bunkering, and massive greens. In fact, first-timers will be confused here. They’ll face intimidating views off the tee that leave doubt as to the problems that loom ahead, and it is definitely possible to lose all of your balls off the tee if you’re struggling.
The golf course is just flat-out challenging, especially on the front nine. No. 1 opens up with a creek on the left that cuts in front of the green and generally makes its presence known on every shot. The play here is to stay right and stay away from its subtle presence on the left side. The creek comes into play on Nos. 2, 4, 5, and even No. 9, where it chutes from the fairway in front of the green and surrounds the green of this challenging par 4.
All told, water and waste areas are in play on 16 of 18 holes (including every par 3), and the creeks are enhanced by visible lakes and ponds on the back side, even though it is considered a bit easier than the front.

#2 green @ Trails Photo submitted by bowhunter817 on 04/10/2013
Course needs work
The course is in tough shape. Fairways are hard as a rock and you need a sledgehammer to lay down a tee in the boxes. The greens are in better shape and the bunkers are inconsistent
Fantastic
Played under 4 hours with a 15 minute rain delay. Course was in great shape! Love playing here.
Course in great shape.
Fairways were surprisingly green and not rock hard for this time of year. Greens played true. Marshall and starter made sure pace was good.
Challenging course
Course in great shape. Tough round. Plenty of places to lose balls in the weeds.
I've always liked this layout
The Trails is a good challenge, while not being a "back breaker." The greens were in really good shape and had a little speed to them. The fairways were a little thin in some places, and that presented some challenge.
Sunday morning blues
MY neighbor and I decided last minute to try to play golf on Sunday. Trails offered the only tee time before 10am for less than $70. We took it. We shouldn't have.
A 9:12 tee time turned into a 9:45 tee time due to everyone hitting two balls off the first tee and then waiting from 300 yards out to go for the Par 5 green in two. The Marshal's only suggestion was that, "It's Sunday and there are Sunday golfers out there." I thought that maybe that was the marshal's job to assist these Sunday players and keep them moving. The front 9 took almost 3 hours to complete. I had enough time to catch a few bass in the little creek. Saw a few snakes too, but they were good snakes, no Mocs. Back 9 was a bit better, but we had to skip a hole to get in front of a bachelor party group. When we got to #16, there was a group on the green, one on the box, one in the hole, and then us. Ridiculous. Total round from original tee time to finish was just shy of 6 hours. There were a lot of player assistants, but they did nothing to assist pace of play.
Besides that, the course was in great shape. Greens are almost recovered from punch in late May. Fairways and bunkers were very playable. Still a goofy layout for the first few holes, but we know that ahead of time. Props to the superintendent..... the course was the only good thing about this round.
We won't be back in summer. May try again in fall once crowds die down.
Love this course!
Trails of Frisco is one of my favorite local courses. The course is in good condition, and has some tricky holes, with 3 or 4 holes that don't allow a driver off the tee. Course knowledge is critical, so if you're playing here for the first time, get the yardage book!
Course in great shape
Challenging for all skill levels, fun layout, greens and fairways in awesome shape despite the heat
Great Overall Value! Deceptively difficult, but very well maintained!
This course was in great condition overall, especially given that the Texas Summer heat has arrived. The greens are also in pretty good shape, but were slow overall and we dealt with some bumpiness done to the fact that they were recently aeroated. The course itself is deceptively difficult with several long, truly challenging holes. The fairways are winding and narrow and sprinkled with various hazards, including perhaps too many strategically placed bunkers and overgrowth/foliage. There are also a number of water hazards throughout the course that, together with the other hazards, in many cases mean that a driver off the tee Is not an option. My group showed up confident, but the course surprised us all and honestly kind of kicked our butts! Notwithstanding, we had a great time and will definitely be playing it again soon (esp. given the low price)!
Challenging Course!
Great course that rewards good shots, but the course definitely has teeth. Enjoy your round, but bring a few extra golf balls!
Please don't sell the tee time
I bought the time from golf now on Wednesday.
I drove there on time.
But, they said the course was closed because of aerification.
It takes about 30 minutes frome my home.
And we have to hurry to get there on time after work.
I really don't understand the reason why they sell the tee time.
If they are gonna do aerification they should schedule long times ago.
Then they should stop to sell the tee time.
It is too easy to call golf now.
Why? Why? Why?
They think it is to be easy to say "closed and call golf now and cancel the tee time."
Please stop doing kind of this .
Pleasantly surprised
Couldn’t of been happier with this selection.. I live over 2 1/2 hours away but I will be back!
