The Trails of Frisco golf course is one of Jeff Brauer’s most unique designs -- primarily because it doesn’t fit the mold of his other courses. Brauer, who’s known for his open, straight-forward courses, designed this one to tip out to a par 71, 6,900 yards, loaded it with hidden creeks, scenic wetlands, extensive bunkering, and massive greens. In fact, first-timers will be confused here. They’ll face intimidating views off the tee that leave doubt as to the problems that loom ahead, and it is definitely possible to lose all of your balls off the tee if you’re struggling.

The golf course is just flat-out challenging, especially on the front nine. No. 1 opens up with a creek on the left that cuts in front of the green and generally makes its presence known on every shot. The play here is to stay right and stay away from its subtle presence on the left side. The creek comes into play on Nos. 2, 4, 5, and even No. 9, where it chutes from the fairway in front of the green and surrounds the green of this challenging par 4.

All told, water and waste areas are in play on 16 of 18 holes (including every par 3), and the creeks are enhanced by visible lakes and ponds on the back side, even though it is considered a bit easier than the front.

On the fence

The course was in good shape for early in the season....lots of hard pan with no grass. divots almost impossible ground was so hard, but that should get better. No crazy about the layout. 4 different times hit great drives only to find out i was in a creek crossing the fairways. Again, ground was very hard. It will improve as spring progresses.

Trails of Frisco

This course never disappoints! It is in great spring shape. The greens are fast and roll true. The bunkers are well maintained and very well placed around course. There are houses on the course but not close enough to make you feel like they are part of the course. Will play here again.

4/5/18

The staff was extremely welcoming and friendly. We were able to get some driving range work in prior to teeing off at 12:12. The Marshall told the four of us that we had a group of two behind us and nothing else for a while. At the second tee we let the party of two play through, as we’re not savages.

By the fourth hole we were behind a lot of other players and the pace of play grinded to a near halt. Behind us we had 4-5 carts waiting as well. The Marshall was friendly but told us to not get in a rush.

The greens were very fast, but everything from the fairways to tee boxes were good to go. It took us right at 5 hours to play all 18 on a midday Thursday. Overall it was a fun course with a nice layout.

Couldn't Find An Excuse

This is a beautiful course. For early in the season, Frisco Trails is in really good shape. Only one of the greens is struggling to fill in. The fairways provide some roll and the greens, in general, accepted a good approach shot. You'll find most of the fairways to be generous with bunkers that are well maintained (ask me how I know). A couple of the holes are a puzzle for the shorter hitter , due to the layout, so short game is essential for a decent score. The greens and the fairways have some slope. The longer hitters, who have a good short game, may find this course too easy. The rest of us will have a lot of fun.
