About
Houston National Golf Club, located in the northwestern part of the city, definitely follows the old adage that "everything is bigger in Texas." This whopping course stretches to 7,337 yards from the back tees. It is a lengthy golf course no doubt, but it doesn't just favor those who can hit long. The layout has a unique links design, so long hitters will be pleased but they will have to be careful of the numerous pot bunkers and other strategically placed hazards waiting treacherously throughout. The golf course has an interesting character that sets it apart from others nearby thanks to a landscape of rolling hills and hardly any trees, a surprise since there is no shortage of trees in the area. Houston National Golf Club's wide-open links design also subjects golfers to the strong prevailing winds, making several of the holes especially tricky.

Not worth the money
Too many moguls on the course and grass missing everywhere. Very disappointing experience for this course. Wished we would not spent so much to play here for Christmas eve.
Solid track
Nice course. For December, place looks good. Challenging course. I’ll take my 87 and be back womb.

Really enjoyed the course. Fairly flat and only had 3 or 4 holes that were pretty difficult. I’ll be back for sure.

Bad Choice on Golf Now
Sunday evening, the day before my golfing day, having found that nearby golf course availability was becoming a problem, I thought it would be wise to use my golf now app to arrange my golf on that Monday. I found hot deals at both Blackhorse north and south. Selecting each deal resulted in a “cannot complete transaction “ notice. So I find another hot deal at Houston National. The price was a bit too high but I was able to redeem a coupon bringing it to a barely affordable $51. So I show up at the golf course, and the pro shop guy asks why I didn’t get a senior rate. I told him it wasn’t offered on the app (often it is). He said I should have called. Yeah right, and you’d be open at 9pm the night before. The course was empty, the guy looked like he hadn’t seen many customers. The economy of raising prices on green fees appeared to be a failure. How ca. they make money when golfers refuse to pay? So now I’m hearing that the golf now app is obsolete at good golf courses. That we should call and arrange tee times. Not good.

Course is very challenging.

Good be an amazing course but…
Not many but a few greens new a little love. And the designation of entering and exiting the fairways should be marked just to assist with some of the ruts. And dredge the water hazards to make them cleaner. I get there is a members course which is priority but with a little extra this course could rival black horse.

Fun golf course
This course, despite a 45 minute drive on a good day, is in my rotation because the layout is fun, the staff more than friendly, and those I join up both diverse and excellent golfers. The 14th is my favorite on the course and plays perfectly for my skill set. My typical two drives leaves me within 150 yards of the small green over water and native grass. The ninth and 16th I have to play as par fives as they arc around water which at 71 I can’t carry but it’s fun to watch younger golfers try. This is a challenging course that rewards good shots. I sand traps…they’ve been sodded over. This helps keep green fees reasonable.

Enjoyed a lot more than BlackHorse
For a public course, this was spread out and pristine. The greens ran a 12 or 14, and the course was in fantastic condition. I've played BlackHorse several times, and none of the holes are right on top of each other. More hazards, definitely more difficult, even a 615+ yard par 5.
For $75, with range balls and lunch included, this was well worth it.

This course is always well maintained and the greens are super challenging! It was my buddy’s first time and says that he can’t wait to play there again.

Worth playing again
Greens and bunkers were in great shape. Tee box and fairways were good. I like the course layout as well. Worrh your time to play it.

Great Value
Nice Course Design, Pace of Play is fine. Some rough areas on the fairway and greens. Free Range Balls and Lunch included !!

Not a $67 course
Every course in the city raised their prices during the pandemic, including this one. I don't have a problem with that, but put it back into the course. Same bald fairways, the greens were great, burgers that come complimentary were good too. This course is fun and challenging, I just wish that they would take care of the fairways.

Greens were great at least
Greens were obviously where the budget goes, they were great. Fairways had a bunch of thin spots and were hard. The bunkers were extremely poorly managed. I liked the layout and think the potential is there for a great track.
