About
Houston National Golf Club, located in the northwestern part of the city, definitely follows the old adage that "everything is bigger in Texas." This whopping course stretches to 7,337 yards from the back tees. It is a lengthy golf course no doubt, but it doesn't just favor those who can hit long. The layout has a unique links design, so long hitters will be pleased but they will have to be careful of the numerous pot bunkers and other strategically placed hazards waiting treacherously throughout. The golf course has an interesting character that sets it apart from others nearby thanks to a landscape of rolling hills and hardly any trees, a surprise since there is no shortage of trees in the area. Houston National Golf Club's wide-open links design also subjects golfers to the strong prevailing winds, making several of the holes especially tricky.

Great course, the round included range balls and a lunch. (hamburger, chips, and a drink)
I will definitely play this course again.
Enjoyable fay
Had a great day with my wife Outstanding design , fairways very good for February and greens treacherous ,undulating slick but fair and true and fun to try and negotiate . . Lots of improvements since I last played couple years ago .. if I lived here I’d be a member!

Bait and Switch…Rinse…Repeat
Golf Now gave me a rebate of 3 dollars off the full price of $45…and included either a hot dog or hamburger buffet. When I asked the guy at the bar, he said the receipt would’ve been marked with a red star by the pro shop. So when I went back and mentioned my golf now confirmation included the lunch, they said no, that’s only for those paying full price. I doubt the value of it anyway, the burgers were precooked and kept warm. If you like a links coast head over to Southwyck in Pearland. They will grill you a great cheeseburger for 8 bucks, offer a senior rate if $28 per weekday round. This is not the first time this phantom buffet has come up…but it still makes me perturbed. Oh yeah…course was nearly empty, cart path only from rain the day before. It was a raw day for a raw deal. Playable though. The course drains well.

Great Day
The course is in good shape considering the time of year. A few patches of new sod here and there but we played them as GUR. The pace of play was great finished in a little over 3 hours. 17&18 are difficult.

Solid track
Played in January so things are brown but the greens are solid. I’ve putted on concrete slower than these greens but they roll pretty true. Never had an issue here.

Great popcorn
We had a popcorn machine at the weather service office where I retired from six years ago in Lake Charles. It was a tough and cool weather day at Houston National with north winds gusting over 20 mph. That makes the first two challenging holes even tougher into that wind. Those two double bogeys were joined by three more. Pace of play was great as two slower groups waived me by. I returned the favor as two big hitters went by on the back nine. I eventually had to move up (I’m a senior) after my last double bogey into the wind on 15. Playing from the red tees made it a fair fight especially on 17 and 18. This course drains well and is my go to course after recent rain. All that and a bag of fresh popcorn.

Good Layout
Course can be challenging if your in the rough, needs a Ranger driving around keeping play moving on the weekends

Great bang for buck
First time playing here on holiday. Course was super packed and slower than would have liked but definitely could’ve been worse. Friendly staff, course in good condition for time of year. Overall great atmosphere and definitely will be back.

I just wish someone rolled around to make sure pace of play stayed manageable… You have hacks standing over a putt for 2 minutes to not even come close. Just wish people would suck faster! Someone needs to roll around and tell the slow pokes to pick it up. It’s always the case at Houston National, never fails. They figure this out, I’d go back more. Just ever time we go it’s the longest round ever.
