About
Houston National Golf Club, located in the northwestern part of the city, definitely follows the old adage that "everything is bigger in Texas." This whopping course stretches to 7,337 yards from the back tees. It is a lengthy golf course no doubt, but it doesn't just favor those who can hit long. The layout has a unique links design, so long hitters will be pleased but they will have to be careful of the numerous pot bunkers and other strategically placed hazards waiting treacherously throughout. The golf course has an interesting character that sets it apart from others nearby thanks to a landscape of rolling hills and hardly any trees, a surprise since there is no shortage of trees in the area. Houston National Golf Club's wide-open links design also subjects golfers to the strong prevailing winds, making several of the holes especially tricky.

Always Disappointing
Played on a Saturday because only place available. 75.00 bucks is laughable even for Wknd rate. Staff unfriendly, course conditions poor, cart was loud and slow. It’s the closest course to my home but will never play it again. Total waste of time!

Cart was a snail. One of the worst golf course conditions I’ve ever experienced, especially for how much the green fees were.. I straight up left the course after 6 holes. Total disappointment. The layout looked pretty cool though, but that doesn’t matter when the conditions are terrible.
SE Texas Hot Golf
Yes it was hot, not too bad pace of play maybe due to the heat. I have played this course several times over the years and I thought given weather conditions it is in pretty good shape. A couple of minor rough patches here and there but overall decent.

Great Course
Always enjoy playing this challenging course. Staff are always friendly and course is well kept however two of the greens still trying to come back from the freeze but still not in bad shape and definitely playable.. With your round free lunch and range balls are included which makes the price well worth it. For a Sat course was well managed with limited waiting.

About that free meal and a beverage
If you play twilight rates like I do, Golf Now will still include free meal and a beverage. The pro shop will advise you that such an offer does not apply to you. I really didn’t have time to stop and eat anyway (I would run out of daylight). Otherwise course conditions were great. Fairways fast, greens rolled true. The 17th and 18th remain two of my favorite holes in greater Houston. Navigating the creek that runs through those holes is a big challenge.

Need a starter
Course was actually decent shape.. but no starter calls for a bottleneck #1. Pace of play is horrendous. Tee time was about 10 minutes behind schedule. Had to pass an old group of 4 playing as slow as possible. There was no one in front of them for about 6 holes. No Marshall’s rolling around to tell folks like that to pick it up. I won’t be going back for awhile.

Once was too many times
First time playing, staff weren't friendly, no marshals to enforce pace of play, driving range borders first and ninth holes which caused errant range balls in play. The course itself is nice and well laid out, but play at your own risk.

First time and last time
Pro shop helpfulness was non existent. Pace of play was horrible, I ended up cutting my round short at hole 11 because the two threesome's ahead of me took 10-15 minutes per shot.
The course is technical and nice, but won't play there again

Not worth the price
Course has been in much better condition before, and still a course I enjoy, but it is just not worth what they are charging for it right now. I’ve played courses recently in double the condition for 10 to 15 dollars less. There are pretty big rock solid burnt sand patches in every fairway. Greens are decent but some with clear bad patches. Just not worth the price right now.

Recovering
Course hit hard from freeze and heavy Houston rain in May and June. Sure it’ll recover in the fall.

Quality course for late July. Yikes on the carts
Course is in good enough shape for late July in Houston. Some burns on greens but overall well maintained. The carts are completely different story. They are all in dire need of service and the tires spin and screech every time you start. No reason not to play, just don’t think your specific cart is broken.
