About
Houston National Golf Club, located in the northwestern part of the city, definitely follows the old adage that "everything is bigger in Texas." This whopping course stretches to 7,337 yards from the back tees. It is a lengthy golf course no doubt, but it doesn't just favor those who can hit long. The layout has a unique links design, so long hitters will be pleased but they will have to be careful of the numerous pot bunkers and other strategically placed hazards waiting treacherously throughout. The golf course has an interesting character that sets it apart from others nearby thanks to a landscape of rolling hills and hardly any trees, a surprise since there is no shortage of trees in the area. Houston National Golf Club's wide-open links design also subjects golfers to the strong prevailing winds, making several of the holes especially tricky.

3rd Time is the Charm
This was my 3rd time playing the course in the span of a month and I must say this was my best experience by far, although my score does not reflect that (topic of discussion on another day). Weather was great and the course was in great condition after some light rain that made the cart paths wet, greens rolled true and provide a consistent test of putting - flagstick staying in on a few holes helped. The 3-some that i was paired with, made the round fun and enjoyable. Pro-shop staff and course marshals were very helpful and focused on trying to make sure everyone had a great time on the course. Will have to think about making this my home course in the Houston area.

Great lay out, quick greens
fast and firm greens. Really good layout. This course drains very well, seams to be the only course in all of Houston that’s off the path. (With all the rain lately)
One draw back was they only had one cart girl for 2 18’s on a busy saterday.

First Time, and Not the Last
Visiting from Dallas, and have played many courses in the hOuston area., this course has a awesome layout, with challenging greens, makes this a must play.
Regardless of skill level, a good time is to be had. Our first round we played the blue tees, and tips the second round. Both rounds were very enjoyable, I will be back.

I really recommend playing here. Greens are smooth and fast year around and it’s always the driest course after rain.

Houston National Golf Club
I played this course after the area had rain overnight and using a GolfNow Hot Deal. Consequently, the range was closed, it was cart path only, bunkers were wet and the ball plugged in a few areas. Other than that, it was a fun and challenging track. Greens were true and fast. The undulations on the course made for some interesting ball placement. I will be sure to make a return visit to the track at the earliest opportunity.

Fast
Fairways are acceptly thin considering the time of year. The greens are very good. Sand traps are terrible but that is due to time of year. Overall it gets high ratings from and well worth the Golfnow $23.

Rain or Shine
Despite the cold and rain, the course held up great. Greens were firm and in good shape.
All around conditions were favorable to mid to low handicap.

A review with a few but's.
Played November 2nd. Course from tee to green was in pretty good shape. Many many divots in the fairway. BUT that is because many many golfers are too stupid to figure out why the sand containers are on the carts. Some of the tee boxes were a little rough, BUT that may because we are in the slow grow season.
Greens overall were pretty good. BUT there were several greens with weed patches. But did not really effect the putting that much.
Lost two balls in the water. Unfortunately the water was in the middle of the fairway on #12 and in a sand trap on #9. BUT that was due to the heavy rains we had two days prior.
Shot an 84. BUT that was most likely due to the fact I worked from 6 PM to 6 AM that morning and went straight to the course.
Had a chance to interact with the Head Pro. What a character. I like him.
Overall, a great experience.

Great course condition
Hou Nat is in the best shape I've seen since the course opened. Always loved the layout. The greatest value play in the area.
2 cigars and a beer
Golf Course was a little damp but in great shape for the time of year. Greens were fantastic and rolling nice. We had a foursome and finished in under 4 hours.
