Sienna Plantation Golf Club

About
The Arthur Hills/Mike Dasher-designed Sienna Plantation is a flat, wooded course that has been enhanced to provide elevation changes. The result is a challenging track that rolls between lakes, creeks, and the native hardwoods that dominate the landscape.
In terms of playability, you'll primarily notice the abundance of risk-reward decisions that are required throughout the round on this course, which tips out at 7,151 yards.
Out of the chute you'll be challenged immediately-the opening two holes play as a 427-yard par 4 and a 601-yard par 5. It lightens up a bit on holes 3-4 with a reasonably short par 3 and a short par 4, but holes 5-8 can blow your score up quickly if you're not on your game. No. 6 is a monster 251-yard par 3 sandwiched between two 450-yard par 4s.
On the back it's more of the same, with the nine opening with four 400-yard plus par 4s. Both par 3s are over 200 yards, and the par 5s are each well over 500 yards. The only real birdie opportunity for the average handicapper is the 320-yard No. 16.
Getting there : Take Hwy. 59 south to the Williams Trace exit. Turn left on Williams Trace to Hwy. 6. Turn left and drive 5.5 miles to the Sienna Plantation main entrance. Turn right and follow the signs to the Information Center.

1st golf experience at Sienna Golf Course
Great looking course and experience. The greens are in excellent shape! The only concern I had is there was no beverage cart attendant on the course during my round of golf (between 11 AM - 3:45 PM), and no water coolers provided. It was a very hot day, so I left dehydrated and incredibly exhausted.
Course care is showing!
Sienna still a little rough around the edges, especially the edges of the greens. Fairways are in good shape. What impressed me the most was on a Friday morning at 10:30 on four different holes. There were people working with mowers and they were actually running the watering system on the greens. There’s definitely a level of care by the new course maintenance superintendent. I can only expect it to get better. The course itself is a test. If you don’t know it this was only my second time playing and I’m beginning to learn where not to hit the ball!
You are going to get lost...
If you have never played this course, you are going to get lost. Holes are poorly labeled from one to the other. Conditions of the course were good but overall we did not enjoy playing here and will not be returning.
$65 on a Saturday? Sure.
If you only want nice greens, I’d skip this course. I can handle bumpy fairways or even mix-n-match grass around the greens, but at least a quarter of the greens have some kind of sanded repair on them: some worse than others. But like the title of my review, for $65 on a Saturday, sure. There were three 4-somes ahead of us. Mid-20s boys out there just hacking away so we finished like 40 minutes behind pace. But, for $65 on a Saturday, sure.
golf course
the course is on great shape pace of play was not the bad
Good course for the price
Great layout here. The conditions can be highly variable. They’re currently in pretty good shape. We’ve had a ton of rain. The greens are rolling nice. The bunkers should all be treated as ground under repair as they’re filled with mud/dirt. Not sand. Fairways are currently lush. Some tee boxes are in very rough shape. Overall it’s about as good as it gets condition wise at the moment. Amenities are essentially nonexistent.
Sienna GC
Great course, nice combination of challenging and fun holes. Fairways were lush and well watered. Greens were well manicured with free of any blemishes.
One of the best values in Houston
Second time playing Sienna -- top 3 value course in the Houston area.
It's a long course with challenging holes; elevated greens are hard to come by in Houston.
Conditions are solid, staff is very helpful from pro shop to the bar -- lady helped me fill ice in my 2 gallon Igloo! Pace is pretty slow as the course can be very challenging for beginners.
Pros - Value
Cons - Pace of play
Excellent course, tee boxes, fairways and greens were all in great condition.
Course a little wet in some places due to the recent rain but would definitely consider going back - even with the fairly lengthy drive to get there.
Sad Fate of a Once Great Course
I moved to Sienna in 2001. At that time the course was relatively new and maintained by the community builder. The layout was great and the scenery was off the charts. The course had undulation and was different than other Houston area courses. Over the years, the course had growing pains. The community built up and took away most of the scenery and they had problems keeping grass on all parts of the greens. But the people were nice and the course was still fun to play at the right price. Then the course was sold to a different group to manage. Since, it has been a steady decline.
I live within a mile of the clubhouse so I continued to play, especially during Covid. Each time it was a little worse than the last.
So I took a break and spent my money at Quail Valley and other courses in the area. It had been almost two years since I played the course in my neighborhood, so I decide to give it a try yesterday.
Things have not gotten better. Service in the pro shop is not friendly. It is not horrible, but the guy is just cold. The greens are better than when they were at their worst, but there are still bald patches, mostly around the edges, on almost every green. New holes have not been cut in some time so the cups are ragged. The tee boxes had not been trimmed so there were weeds and shoots between the markers. The sand traps have very little sand, are not properly groomed, and were an off green color from what appeared to be something sprayed around the greens that drifted into the sand. Yardage markers are missing and/or very hard to find and the overall shape of the course was poor (no edging or trimming around tee boxes, cart path, etc. muddy tractor marks in fairways, digging (maybe to repair sprinklers) on a number of holes, and overall maintenance of facilities is poor. Top that with no drink cart and very little drinking water on the course (despite multiple signs prohibiting outside beverages) and less than nice service at the bar and Sienna is not a place I will spend my money or recommend to others. If you are desperate to play golf, are willing to overpay, and don't really care about the condition of the course, go for it. Otherwise, look for something else.
I will give you that it rained hard days before we played, but that does not explain the state of the course. I gave very specific examples of problems. I don't expect those for $55 on a Monday in which the greens have been heavily sanded. If you think the course is fine, your standards/expectations and mine are different. That is not a course that I would want to take my friends to or have them pay the green fee. In its current state it is a $40 course- maybe equivalent to Clear Creek.
I played the same day you played and the course was fine with the exception of the greens been punched
Keep in mind it rained over 6 inches in sienna the week before i bet that had something to do with the mowing
