Hill Country Golf Club - Lakes/Oaks
About
Hill Country Golf Club offers three nines, all of which sprawl across 200 scenic acres of Texas Hill Country. The terrain is provided with rolling meadows and steep hillsides dotted with tranquil lakes and ponds that come into play throughout the 27 holes. The Lakes Nine is obviously characterized by the clear blue lakes that come into play throughout the course. There are also wooded ravines and strategically placed bunkers throughout the course for even more challenges. The Oaks Nine is named for the towering oaks that blanket the course. From wooded ravines to tree-lined fairways, this nine is a demanding test of accuracy. There are strategically placed bunkers and water comes into play on a few holes. The courses, which were designed by well-known architectural firm Arthur Hill & Associates, have received praise from both Golf Digest and Golf Magazine.

Creek Course #9 Photo submitted by GreerGolf on 06/06/2017
Course could use some TLC
I play this course 2 - 3 times per year while staying at the Hyatt Hill Country Resort. There are 3 nine hole courses that change in rotation regularly. I enjoy playing the Oaks and Creeks courses, but the Lakes course is a tricked up. Avoid playing Lakes if you can choose the other two for your round. Each course has a few quirky holes but it is a fun place to play. Depending on the tees you play, the course can be much more difficult than the normal resort course. It can play long, the greens are large and very undulating. No or few straight putts. Driving accuracy can be a premium on several holes; again not like a typical resort course. Pro shop staff and cart attendants are usually top-notch. Better than average driving range and practice areas. I like playing the courses when in San Antonio. Beverage cart comes around frequently and is well stocked.
Now, however, for the not so positive remarks. Course conditions have really declined over the past two years. Gradual decline, but the decline is especially apparent with the greens. The decline in course conditions is visible throughout the courses I played but the greens were suffering the most. They were spotty, slow, grainy and definitely not up to the standards this course is known for. Very bumpy and unpredictable. I visited with the golf shop attendant after my round and he acknowledged that they have struggled with the greens this year and new greens are being discussed. Given the current conditions, paying the normal green fee is not a good value - at least it was not when I played. Twilight rates drop substantially and it is worth the price even with the greens conditions.
Snack bar next to the pro shop could have a better menu but there are other options for resort guests.
It is a course that I enjoy playing and recommend. But be prepared for conditions - especially greens - that need much improvement.
Slow play and ineffective staff
The pace of play was extremely slow and the marshal felt he could not do anything about a group that slowing everyone down.
The restaurant service was supper slow. After waiting for their fastest options for 45 minutes we had to take them with us to the course.
The comment form the manager at the proshop was "Sorry that happened to you"
Staff at Hills go out of their way to make sure that your round of golf is enjoyable I every way!
A true Gem
With 27 holes of championship quality golf, it's the pound for pound the best golf course in San Antonio!!
Great service and nice course
We made our reservation via GolfNow.com to obtain competitive pricing vs twilight. We played the Lakes and Creek course. Course was in great condition by the greens seemed like they were aerated already. Guys at the desk were friendly. Range was good( love hitting on grass) but it needed to be serviced(more golf balls). The women tees were very generous and can help boost confidence.
Great course if you're near or at the Hyatt
It was a nice round. Course was in pretty good shape.
All around great course
From the friendly staff and great accommodations this course is first rate.
Wonderful afternoon
Hyatt Hill Country golf course is top notch golfing destination for everyone. Great service outstanding conditions and true greens.
Hyatt Hill Country Resort
Great layout, great staff, and great amenities. Greens were sanded and punched, which made them difficult to putt. The guy who cut the cups left them ragged.
In Great Condition for This Time of Year!
Course was in great shape, greens are quite fast and a little bumpy! But great round of golf overall, fairways are plush!
Hot but challenging
We played the Creeks course and enjoyed it. It was HOT that day do not a lot of folks out there. The course was challenging yet not too long. Things changed on the Oaks course. It seemed tighter and more challenging. Our scores ballooned so was it the course or because we had begun to melt out there?
The fairways were good. The greens are not that good but they held when hit. Just not slick and smooth like other finer courses. It is late Summer so the conditions are on the dry side.
Great Course
Brought a visitor from FL on this day and was truly impressed with layout and overall day on the course. Seen beverage cart about every 4 holes which was awesome. The only disappointment we had is the back 9 had been sanded. With 27 holes of availability just wish we could have played on better 9.
Highly recommend playing this great course.
