Hill Country Golf Club - Lakes/Oaks
About
Hill Country Golf Club offers three nines, all of which sprawl across 200 scenic acres of Texas Hill Country. The terrain is provided with rolling meadows and steep hillsides dotted with tranquil lakes and ponds that come into play throughout the 27 holes. The Lakes Nine is obviously characterized by the clear blue lakes that come into play throughout the course. There are also wooded ravines and strategically placed bunkers throughout the course for even more challenges. The Oaks Nine is named for the towering oaks that blanket the course. From wooded ravines to tree-lined fairways, this nine is a demanding test of accuracy. There are strategically placed bunkers and water comes into play on a few holes. The courses, which were designed by well-known architectural firm Arthur Hill & Associates, have received praise from both Golf Digest and Golf Magazine.

Creek Course #9 Photo submitted by GreerGolf on 06/06/2017
Close to home
I wish they throw in 29.99$ deal every once in a while
Terrible design
The staff was very friendly and the course condition were excellent. Both fairways and greens. The problem is the design is awful. Unless that is, you like hitting a ball right down the middle of the fairway, only to have a tree right in your line to the green. And this isn't an occasional circumstance on The Oaks nine. It seems to be on every hole. Also, the first 6 holes on The Oaks 9 were so narrow, you may as well just hit a mid iron from the tee. One the first par 5 on The Oaks, I stepped off the fairway width at the landing area and it was 18 yards wide. That is US Open kind of width. he Creeks was a little better, but also has several stupid holes. I played with a couple of members there. They were both frustrated by it. Not sure why anyone would want to be a member there. If you are a 10 handicap or higher and play there, take 2 dozen balls.
Good but could have been Great except for GPS
The course is in very good shape and well maintained however the day we played our Golf Cart GPS was WAY off on almost every hole! The flag as not even close to being on target and on some of the larger greens was off by more that 50 feet! This made it very difficult for selecting the right club when approaching the green. I feel for the money that is charged for the amenities like GPS they should make sure it's property calibrated/set up.
If you know how to play Authur Hills' Courses this is a great course for you
I always been a fan of Authur Hills' courses especially up in the Michigan and Ohio region where I resided before moving to San Antonio, TX.
His signature courses entice you to play aggressive but it also calmly hits you back of your head for that "What were you thinking?" moment but gives you bailout spots if you use the right club. If you know how to use all of the clubs in the bag from driver to the putter, this is a nice course for you. If you are long hitter like me, I used 3 wood and 2 iron off the tee 10 out of 14 holes that are Par 4 and 5 off the tip. There are few holes that are not driver friendly but thankfully the fairways are fast, trimmed and hard to allow additional distance upon landing.
The greens are in good shape, fast and firm. Ironically the practice green has the most severe slopes compare to the greens on the golf course. My hint to you is that it does not break as much as you think ;)
Only perk was that the cart girl only visited us once after playing 14 holes when the weather was 95F with over 50 percent humidity.
Great Day
My friend and I had a fun day playing at the Hyatt. The staff was friendly and helpful. The course was in great shape. An overall wonderful experience.
Nice, great value
Played June 2013, loved it, well maintained, will play again. Played lakes to creeks, did not play oaks , heard it was the more difficult nine.
Top notch service , will for sure let friends know to play when they visit San Antonio
Great layout and great condition
The fairways were especially lush! Some of the greens had areas with sand on them but the majority of the rather large greens were in great shape. Lots of breaks on the greens made the round even more fun. Beautiful layout and wonderful Texas Hill Country golf experience. Enjoyed my round thoroughly.
MUST hit fairways
Sometimes you got to leave the driver in the bag. If you do not hit fairways, you are dropping. Loved the course and the staff was as helpful and friendly as I have ever seen. Highly recommend.
Beautiful, well-maintained course
Course was in pristine conditions, with perfect fairways, and fast, smooth greens. Course played sloowww on back 9, which was frustrating, but sometimes unavoidable. Rack rate is pretty absurd, but for $60 here, well worth it!!
Nice fairways, too many blind tee shots, and greens weren't that great
Greens weren't in great shape and the driving range was sub par.. The fairways were immaculate and your tee shots rolled forever.. I normally drive the ball around 290 and every tee shot was around 320-330..
Unless you get a deal on Golf Now it's way over priced!
Range is wired, you hit into he first fairway. Tee boxes and fairways are nice. Greens are unpredictable and could use some upkeep for what they want. The GPS systems are cool and the staff was very nice to me. But for $90 something during the week and over a $100 on the weekend.....No Way
Nice resort course
Got a great deal! Nice challenging track. Good conditions. Keep it in the fairway!
COURSE WAS IN GREAT SHAPE
GREAT GREENS, LAYOUT, STAFF WAS SUPER, FOOD WAS GREAT, COURSE LAYOUT TIGHT BUT FAIR, WELL MAINTAINED
Great course, challenging but fun. Little to no traffic. Excellent course conditions.
My favorite course in SA. Course is in excellent conditions. They have 3 sets of 9 holes so you can play at a good pace with no little to no traffic.
Wonderful course layout - - Different challenges based upon the 9 you play.
We played the Oaks and Lake courses. Very much different layouts. Lake course can be very challenging. Very tight lies as grass in this area doesn't appears to grow that well (even in the spring). The greens are average at best but run true. The sand in the traps needs work. These are lovely courses and worth playing. Overall a strong B rating from me.
Hyatt
The course has a very nice layout but has a lot of very tight lies on the fairways. They are starting to restrict carts on some of the areas that should help. Overall a good test of your golf skills.
Great Resort Course
Very enjoyable course that challenges your game. With three 9 hole layouts, you will not be disappointed with any combination.
All staff members were very professional and polite.
Hill Country Great Resort
Hill Country Golf Club has the best staff. More then enough staff to take care of your needs.. Very friendly and helpful. Pretty much open fairways and the Greens are challenging.. Soft, yet pretty fast. Course is in nice condition..
Great landscape
Being an average player, I found this course to be pretty difficult but very fun. The lazy river was a great way to cool after my afternoon round.
