The Golf Club of Texas

Despite the extreme heat, the picturesque condition of the course made play very enjoyable. We virtually had the place to ourselves.

From the tees to the greens the scenes were exceptional. We had never seen it at the high end country club level.

Lush; greens in good conditions; fairways also lush although cut a bit short today; only negative are the traps with standing water and grass growing in many; overall a good outing

Course setup was nice, glad I got in for $30 or I would have been upset about the 5+ hr round and no Marshall out to speed people up. Green speed was nice but they are bumpy. Overall a fun course just need to speed things up and get the greens rolling better.

Have been playing this course for the past few months. The course is in good shape and I really enjoy the layout.

The only complaints I have is that the bunkers are not in good shape and the greens are a little bumpy. I know they recently did some work on the greens, but there should have been sufficient time for them to be in a little better shape.

If they can get the bunkers in better shape and the greens to run a little smoother, it will be hard to beat this course.

Nice course, friendly staff. No drink cart when I played but it was an early tee time? Greens needed some work but overall happy with the course.

This course is very difficult to review as it's actually a really good course, though with a major fatal flaw. The staff is nice, the golf club is nice and it has a very good driving range. It is well designed with fairly well maintained fairways and greens. Why the poor rating? Just a few feet off each fairway is surrounded by thick native grasses that will absolutely gobble up nearly any ball that touches them. You better hit the fairway or small areas of surrounding rough or expect to lose your ball. PGA professionals could probably count on losing strokes due to lost balls on this course, making it one of the most frustrating courses in the area. I get that they only have a small staff of six maintaining the course, but they could absolutely find a way to mow the overgrowth every few months - until they do, my friends and I are going to avoid this course.

I've been playing golf in San Antonio for years and had never made the trip to the Golf Club of Texas. They were able to accommodate last minute tee times on Memorial Weekend, so we decided to check it out. The course was in great shape, and the staff was very friendly.

It was a nice course to play and had great views. It was challenging and very fun. The course was not in great shape. The greens are hard as rocks and very bumpy. Other than that it was amazing.

The Soya grass golf course is fun to play, WHEN it is in good condition. The greens need work and are very bumpy and hard. They need top dressing and to be punched to soften and smooth them out. Greenside bunkers are never in good condition, poorly maintained always. The service in the restaurant area is absolutely the worst of any golf course I play. The staff ignores you and it takes 20-30 minutes to get served, AFTER you finally have to ask if you can get waited on. This is an ongoing and continuous problem at this facility. TERRIBLE FOOD SERVICE!!!

It was a painfully slow Saturday round. I was a single golfer that was put behind multiple groups (which is fine and I understand) but when making the turn, a tournament was shotgunning on various holes, including #10, so I was instructed by the pro shop to follow the B group on the 10th tee. Thus adding two groups in front of a single that was already keeping up w the group in front. Unfortunately, this also meant i was in the middle of the tournament groups (others had shotgunned off of 9) making for an extremely awkward situation. Fortunately one of the tournament groups joined with me as a 5some to speed up play. Which whenever a 5some is speeding up play, youve got problems. Finally after about 4.5 hours I called it quits on the 15th hole.

Course layout was great, conditions were what you’d expect for this price point, but the scheduling in the pro shop was extremely sub par.

Don’t plan to play again. Recommend paying a little more and going somewhere more organized.

Very nice Pro Shop, Bar area, driving range, chipping and putting greens. The course is really nice and has wide open fairways, but can play tough when the wind is blowing. The rough area has really tall grass, so if you hit there you will definitely lose your ball. No sense in walking through the y’all grass to be surprised on whatever else you will come up on. Just be careful. The fairways were a little hard, so good on the balls that hit and will just run, but bad on your second shot on the hard ground. Did not have much rain before I played so I understand. The greens are huge, but just as hard so many shots I had on the green bounced off. I just hit shots short of the green so they would bounce or roll up in the green. Price was really good, but that was for Super Twilight. I played before on an earlier time on the weekend and I thought the price was very steep. I will stick to Twilight and Super Twilight.

This course has had its ups and downs over the years. I was pleasantly surprised at the great shape it was in! Bunkers still need some work, but the rest of the course was the best it has been in years!

Unfortunately we got stuck behind a lolligagging group. Did not see a single Marshall to help enforce a reasonable pace of play. Course conditions were what you’d expect for a mid $20s/round course. After playing 13 holes in 3.5 hours we decided to leave. Staff is friendly and does their best.

Course was in decent shape. The roughs are overgrown with a lot of weeds. Fairways and greens were decent.

Cart paths are deteriorating and needs some repair. On a Sunday there was no one driving a beverage cart and the restaurant was not staffed appropriately. Although, the waitress Chloe did an awesome job trying to help out golfers making the turn and those finishing up and watching the Tiger win the Masters.

Course is very nice and design is good. the zoysia greens need to be rolled after they are cut they where so bumpy very unpredictable in speed and roll surface. No cart person.
