Always loved this course!!!
Was in as good as shape as possible with all the rain we had... had many workers out there today working the course. The greens were fast like the always are but are beat up with ball marks.... what wrong with people ... can’t they fix their hallmarks properly??
Beautiful Afternoon on Stonewall Orchard
Played 18 today at Stonewall Orchard Golf Course. This beautiful course designed by famed course architect Arthur Hill lives up to its reputation as a challenging, but playable course. Conditions were great and the greens were pretty fast. The rough was pretty tall and made shots out frustrating. at times. Overall, one of the more enjoyable public courses in northern Illinois.

Considering all the rain dumped on us, the course was in good condition. Always enjoy the venue, but pace of play was poor. Cary path only probably contributed to that, so let's let it slide. Staff was friendly as always..

Stonewall Orchard - One of Lake County's Best Public Courses
The Good: Very nice, upscale Arthur Hills layout about an hour northwest of Chicago is one of the premier suburban public tracks. Tree-lined, but very fair layout puts a premium on strategic shot making and putting. Impressive course conditions and outstanding, difficult greens. Good Par 5's and extremely challenging Par 3's. Beautiful clubhouse with full restaurant and locker rooms, as well as a strong practice facility. Priced steeply at just under $100 during peak season, but many online specials and twilight rates. Excellent GPS if you take a cart.
The Bad: While a great course, not worth nearly a Benjamin to play. The Par 3's have limited variety and most are "all carry", which can be challenging for the mid-high handicapper. The greens can be almost too difficult, particularly the demonic 18th.
The Verdict: Stonewall Orchard is a top 10-12 public access course in Illinois and is one of the best conditioned courses in the state. Some of the most treacherous greens you will find!
Best Hole: The Par 5 18th is a beast and I happen to love it even though its much maligned by locals in the area. At nearly 600 yards, you can expect a mid-short iron third approach to a small, devilish green protected by water left and sand and ridges right.

Excellent venue, great conditions. A couple of greens were in poor shape, mainly due to inconsiderate patrons who don't repair ball marks. Got paired with another single and we encountered one obnoxious 4some, otherwise we were allowed to play thru. I'll be back...

Overrated /Overpriced
Unless you live within a mile or two from this place it’s not worth the price. The golf carts alone are enough to ruin your day. They simply won’t stop making noises. When they aren’t trying sell you something they’re beeping out instructions to replace divots, repair ball marks, slow down, keep pace, etc. Rediculous! At least one message after every green?!
Biggest issue — the pace. Got to do better. Didn’t see a ranger until I decided to leave on 14 + he almost hit me with his cart.
Shame. Drove up to check it out based on the reviews. *scratches head.

Sorry you did not have a good experience with both our carts and the pace. We monitor all pace from the golf shop with our master gps screen. We are then able to run out and solve issues as they arise. Perhaps the marshal was not visible to your group. We strive to provide the best possible course conditions and we do remind people to "do their part" on the gps screens throughout the round. Carts also remind you where they are not allowed to drive.. We apologize if the cart reminders affected your experience. We certainly hope to see you again soon. Thank you for playing!
Great course, minus the clubhouse
We really enjoyed the course. The only downside were the starter/player assistant and the guy manning the club house. Both were rude and really ruined the experience. The starter kept asking us to play faster, even though we had to wait for the group ahead of us and the group behind us never had to wait for us. The older gentlemen in the club house was rude and from the looks of it wanted nothing to do with us.

Nice layout, greens were not at a level I expected. Some were diseased and a lot of ball marks that patrons didn't fix. Makes the round kind of subpar..

Gem
This is a great course. The layout is very nice. The course is always in good condition. Some of the greens showed a little burnout. Not sure if it’s from the recent heat wave. It rained overnight so the course was very saturated. 90 degree rule in effect. The greens run true and are fast. Definitely worth playing if you’ve never been there.

Excellent course. Beautiful layout and challenging. Was in fantastic condition. For some reason they let a fivesome out in front of us at 8:10 and slowed us up. We finished in 4:30

Stonewall never disappoints
Stonewall Orchard is an amazing public facility. The course is always in excellent condition. It is clear that the grounds crew works hard to maintain the course as well as the top notch practice facilities. If the golf does not impress you, then the staff surely will. I always feel appreciated as a customer here.
