Great course, less than desirable course conditions
The day of golf was very nice and sunny. Stonewall Orchard is a premier public golf course in the Chicagoland area. Unfortunately, the course was quite beat up. The tee boxes were not good, in particular, I have never seen a tee box chewed up like on hole 17. The greens had quite a few divots that did impact some putts. While the round was in the afternoon, spots on the fairway were wet. I spoke with one of the staff and shared some constructive feedback with him. I was told in their defense, there had been 6 outings over the past two weeks. However, the course really reflected it.
Nice Course
Fun day, we played as a twosome. We caught people on the 10th hole and the back nine took 2 hours 25 minutes to play. That's too slow for how much you pay. Also, at the turn we went inside for snacks and was going to sit in air conditioning for a bit and let the foursome get ahead of us a bit. Some manager in there said we couldn't stay there and had to go back out even after I explained to her the situation (fyi, the closest group behind us was 30 minutes). It's a small point, but I can't stand lack of flexibility.
Course was in great shape, except for the sand traps. They were wet, muddy and hard.
Pace of play is horrible!!!
Great layout great staff great conditions but for $120 which you can get for less than 80 after 2:30pm not worth for having to wait 10-15mins a hole on tee box and 5mins per shot.

After years of trying to get out here, i finally got to play. Didn't disappoint. This course has everything as far challenges. I recommend playing it as opposed to me telling you about it.
Over rated - Don’t play here
For $120 spend your money else where. Ridiculous expectations of pace of play. Finished in 4:33 in 90 degree heat and we were treated like second class citizens with 4 visits from rangers. Give me a break.. Do not play here unless your handy cap is under 15. Vastly disappointed
Sounds like the Rangers were doing their jobs. I've played Stonewall and it's well worth $120. A course of this price and caliber requires players to keep up with the group in front of them. That's what other golfers are paying for!
Good morning. First, thank you for playing here and we are sorry your day did not go as expected. While we do understand you did indeed pay 118, we also have an obligation to the players behind each group (especially on a packed weekend day) to make sure their experience is a positive one as well. The purpose of pace expectations is so players know what they can expect when they play certain courses. Most of the time a friendly reminder to "please do your best to catch the group in front of you" is all that is needed. If a group falls 18+ minutes behind we run the risk of upsetting many golfers without attempting to solve the problem in a kind manner. Very sorry your experience was not positive with pace expectations. We certainly would love to have you back out for a great day of golf sometime. Thanks again for playing Stonewall.
1st Timer Challenge but will be back
Very challenging to the first timer right out of the parking lot to the teebox. Course knowledge is/would be key to success here. Course in great shape, great layout, but keep it in the short stuff. Greens were fast, to dangerous, even with watering. Don't need driver on many of the sub-380 holes, would strongly recommend against it. Hit your 200-220 yd club and into green with short wedge. Could be hunting for your drive/OB. Staff very professional, all business.
