Stone River Golf Club

About
Previously known as Aaki Ranch International Golf Course, Stone River Golf Club is a basic, homemade 18-hole track that opened in 1997, featuring rolling Bermuda pastures, manmade lakes, and young trees. Playing only 6,487 yards from the tips with minimal trees lining the fairways, you’ll be able to swing hard and let it rip.
Getting there : From Dallas, head east on I-30 for about 25 miles to exit 77B (FM35). Turn right at the stop onto FM 35, then continue about 1 mile. Turn right onto FM 2453 and drive another .5 miles. The golf course is on your right

Poor couse
5.5 hrs to play 18 is unacceptable. Extremely slow pace. Tee time was 11:07, didn't tee off til 11:30ish, finished little after 5. Cart girl was super sweet, but needed two bc course was too busy.
Hidden Gem
A hidden gem in Royse city. Large greens wide open fairways and a few really challenging holes on the back 9.
Not worth the $18 I paid
I’ve played this course several times over the past year and overall have had a good experience. Today however was one of the worst I have had and it feels like the $18 I paid was overpriced. The fairways are like concrete, the pace of play was horrible and the greens keeper put pins literally on the edges of huge slopes, making the dry and fast greens just unenjoyable to play. I live in Rockwall and have found this to be a good deal for the quickness of play and overall course but after today, I don’t think I’ll be back!
Tough Greens!
Nice course overall. Fairly forgiving course except for a handful of holes that are tougher especially if you don’t know the layout. Greens were in great shape; they just rolled slow all day. Friendly staff.
Doug’s review
It’s not the best course around DFW but it is very convenient and the greens are nice. No bunkers on the course so you better know how to pitch the ball or bump and run. It’s not a long course but there are a couple of holes that you can get into some serious trouble on. Take your time and plan your next shot.
Hardpan
It’s hard to believe an afternoon tee time was over $35 during a week day. This is my 3rd time playing here this year, figured maybe by late summer it would be in shape, and it was not so. The greens were rolling about a 5. I am not joking. Slowest greens I have putted on this year. But still they were rock hard, just seems like they haven’t been mowed. Hard to gauge any short game shots like that. Going from lag putting to short putts is frustrating. I think the fairways may actually roll a bit faster. Having said that, it’s actually hard to tell where fairways end and rough begin because, well, it’s all pretty rough. Clumps of weeds and cracked hardpan ground litter the space between tee and green. I’m not joking, you see dust fly when your ball hits the fairway. Never liked all the false edges around the green either. It’s not done in a “pinehurst” manner it’s more of a homemade look if anything. I just can’t see myself ever going back unless this place does a complete 180. I wish I could use lack of rain as an excuse but no other course in this area is this poorly conditioned. Save your money and go somewhere else if you can.
