ShadowGlen Golf Club
About
Located just 15 minutes northeast of downtown Austin, ShadowGlen Golf Course is considered by locals to be one of the area's hidden gems. At 7,174 yards from the back tees, it is a long, tough course that will test even the most seasoned players. Some consider it to be the most difficult public golf course in Texas. The layout has a links design that is mostly flat but there are a few hilly spots that can cause some trouble, especially the holes that were designed with steep drops. The narrow fairways require accuracy and the well manicured greens play fast and are often bordered by strategically placed bunkers or contoured mounding. There are also water hazards coming into play throughout, including the wandering creek that cuts across the golf course.

Best for the money in a 50 mile radius
I wish they had shower supplies and towels, so we can get ready for work without having to go back to the house
Tough
Greens were rough and the price was too high. The pace of play was bad too many people for 7 min starts
Shadow Glen
The course has gotten better but the price has far outpaced the quality. It’s not a 100 course
Worth a twilight rate
The course conditions were below average. Couple of the greens were very patchy, all of them fairly bumpy. Pace of play was brutal, had a 3:30 tee time and only got to finish 16 by 8 when we were told to bring carts in.
In my opinion, it was worth the $55 twilight rate but wouldn’t pay full price
Bad condition
I’m not one for bad reviews but it seems like they’ve given up on this course.
Sketchy Conditions
Played on a hot, windy day. Recent reviews noted that the greens were not pristine, and that’s what we found. Staff said they had a freeze last winter. Hopefully, the greens will come back more, because the overall layout is pretty good.
Staff is friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was good. They have a drive-through snack bar at the turn. Course has a grass driving range and an unspectacular short game practice area.
Pace of play was around 4:45 because we waited on the group ahead of us on every hole. Marshall might have been able to a little more to speed them up.
Front nine is pretty open and mostly flat. Back nine is very different. It has more elevation change with some narrower fairways.
If they can get the greens back, it will be a much better experience.
A Little Dissappointing
Since having 2 separate knee replacement surgeries in 2024, this has been my most frequented course. I suppose the short distance white tees favor my golf rehab with new legs. Unfortunately, this last round was a bit disappointing. The greens were a bit fuzzy and the grass on the tee boxes was longer than usual. Maybe the maintenance was late due to recent rains, so grace given. Back to the greens ... several have some bad spots where the grass has gone, making puts very unpredictable. Also you can see some weeds present in the grain of the greens. I hope this gets rectified. I like playing this course. Joe, the starter, is a great human being!!!
Holes too tricky unless you are a mountain goat!
4 holes on side of canyons just kill a solid round and it is very depressing
I will avoid course for better options.
Steer clear for now
Greens are in awful condition, not at all worth the price they are currently charging. Crazy paying 90$ to put on some Blackhawk grade greens.
Beautiful course
Really enjoyed how stunning this course is. Very scenic. The conditions were pretty bad but I think there’s a water issue. I’d definitely play again just for the views
Steer Clear Until They Do Work On Course
Never have I felt like my money was stolen but to charge even $80 for a course that greens haven’t been tended to, fringe is over grown, fairway is basically the rough. This isn’t just a waste of money it’s a waste of your life as the course is so bad rounds take 5 hours because even if you hit well it’s still lost in the fairway on majority of holes.
If you stop playing they will lose money and will have to address the course.
overall good experience. the greens were not up to par but they gave me a reduced rate and a free bucket of balls because in their words "greens are not up to our expectations"..... everything else was great. Good course layout with tough holes combined with risk reward shots.
Greens are worst in Austin
I’ve been playing here for many many years, I even remember when they lost the greens back in like 2010 or so. And right now the greens are absolutely despicable. They should be basically giving away rounds of golf right now with as bad as these greens are. Clearly, you can tell that they are trying to fix them, but these are the worst greens I’ve seen in my entire 25 years of playing golf. Avoid at all cost right now until they get these greens repaired.
We appreciate your review. We are working hard to get our greens back to their normal conditions. They were hit with some winter kill during the freezes and the cool spring temps have not helped the Bermuda grass. We expect a 3-4 week recovery on our greens.
