ShadowGlen Golf Club
About
Located just 15 minutes northeast of downtown Austin, ShadowGlen Golf Course is considered by locals to be one of the area's hidden gems. At 7,174 yards from the back tees, it is a long, tough course that will test even the most seasoned players. Some consider it to be the most difficult public golf course in Texas. The layout has a links design that is mostly flat but there are a few hilly spots that can cause some trouble, especially the holes that were designed with steep drops. The narrow fairways require accuracy and the well manicured greens play fast and are often bordered by strategically placed bunkers or contoured mounding. There are also water hazards coming into play throughout, including the wandering creek that cuts across the golf course.

Rip off
The greens were about the same length as shag carpet! Got repeatedly hit into by group behind us, even though we were clearly having to wait for upwards of 10-15 minutes on every shot. And worst of all is getting charged $110 for this amazing round of golf!!! Totally not worth it at all
Always fun
Greens are bit more furry than I'm used to on other area courses, but overall the course is in good shape for this Texas heat! The layout is a fun challenge and the staff are great. New carts with the latest GPS software. Will be back a few times this year!
Greedy
44$ for a rider. Course is average at best. Trash for value.
We just aerated greens and fairways and also verticut greens, tees and fairways. We are doing a lot of work to set the course up for great conditions this fall. The spectator cart fee is actually $45 on weekends. We price is that way so we have enough carts for actual golfers. Most courses don't even offer spectator carts on weekends.
Slow and started us late
Started us 15 mins late. Group in front was super slow. 6 hour round basically. They do nothing to alleviate this. It’s like this every time.
Our GPS reports showed an average pace of 4 hours 19 minutes that day with the slowest round taking 4 hours 50 minutes. This is not acceptable for us but it does happen when everyone tries to play early to beat the heat. We have 2 marshals every day on the weekend and do monitor pace closely. But, I can promise you it wasn't 6 hours.
Great Course, Exceeded my Expectations
We are in town visiting and I wanted to get a couple rounds in while we were here. Read the reviews for Shadowglen and want sure what to expect, I was blown away at how GREAT the course conditions was in. Greens were amazing, fairways were prestine, and tee boxes were great. I played off the blue tees, the course layout is very unique and challanging. Made me have to think about club selection and shot placement. The front half place amongst homes, but never had that narrow track feel, in fact it was very forgiving on the drive. The back nine play in through the hills and was beautiful, alot of elevation change and a few blind shots that made you think. The one warning that I will have for you is the second cut of rough is longer then normal, you will lose a ball in it. I switched to a bright green ball after the third lost ball, I watched it land in the grass, went directly to the spot and gone.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The facilities were exceptional, clubhouse was great, cart barn was convenient, pro shop had anything you may need. And the drive thru food station at the turn was awesome.
I have to make an honorable mention for the carts, plenty of power, comfortable ride, the GPS system was great and the fact that you can wireless connect your phone for music was a nice touch.
I will recommend this course to family that is here and anyone the travels to the area.
Golf boot camp
I enjoyed the day at this course. Cart path only police... I walked up and down way too many times for this old man. I would play this course again without cart path only. Liked the layout and terrain. Beautiful spots for photos.
Good but over rated course
Yes, it was a nice golf course, but there wasn't really anything special about it. First course I've played here in Austin, so maybe compared to others it's a fantastic course, but was expecting more idk. Time to try falcon-head & lost pines. This course was on pga's article of best courses in Austin so I gave it a shot.
Great condition, couple of suggestions
Place is in really good condition, especially the greens. Fairways are a little shaggy in spots, but no big deal there.
Two biggest issues:
1) The rough is honestly too long and punishing. It makes it very hard to find balls (literally have to step on them sometimes to find it) and slows up play for wayward shots. Cutting the rough to a more manageable length would allow for faster play and honestly a bit more fun.
2) Blind shots. There are several blind shots and you have zero idea where the group in front of you is when hitting. The digital cart screens should always show you where the previous group is on a hole so that you don't mistakenly hit into them.
Will absolutely go back, but hope these suggestions are taken into consideration.
We appreciate the 5 star review!
1. We have allowed the rough to grow a little longer than normal so that it could recover from last year's drought. We've been fortunate enough to have more rain this year which has helped.
2. Our carts are equipped with a gps feature that will warn you when there are golf carts in the blind spots. You will get another notification when these areas become clear.
Great time at Shadow Glen
It’s been some years since I have played Shadow Glen and I was impressed. Great layout, great price, and the course looked great, especially at this time of the year when many public courses are struggling with the heat . I forgot the difference in the 2 nines, which provide the golfer a real challenge when they hit the back 9. Even the sand traps were in great condition which allows the golfer to play true sand shots.
I will be back soon!
Greens and Fairways Plush
Fairways and Greens in great shape. Some tee boxes a little patchy but not bad. Casa G’s after the round 👋🏼 ⭐️
Appreciate your review. We just aerified our greens a couple weeks ago so they should be back to 100% very soon!
