About
Located just 15 minutes northeast of downtown Austin, ShadowGlen Golf Course is considered by locals to be one of the area's hidden gems. At 7,174 yards from the back tees, it is a long, tough course that will test even the most seasoned players. Some consider it to be the most difficult public golf course in Texas. The layout has a links design that is mostly flat but there are a few hilly spots that can cause some trouble, especially the holes that were designed with steep drops. The narrow fairways require accuracy and the well manicured greens play fast and are often bordered by strategically placed bunkers or contoured mounding. There are also water hazards coming into play throughout, including the wandering creek that cuts across the golf course.

Wear comfortable walking shoes
Even if you get a cart, you will spend most of the round walking. Several holes were cart path only and the others would only let you drive on the fairway or the cart would shut down. Even 5 feet off the fairway would shut the cart off until you reverse back onto the fairway. I’ve never walked so much after paying for a cart. I guess the silver lining is that I was able to get 17,000 steps in during my round.
Beware of the Rough
I like the course. Nice layout. Considering the recent heat and lack of rain the conditions were reasonable. In particular, the greens were very receptive and rolled pretty well.
There are some holes, especially on the back nine, where the rough is so deep that I couldn’t find the ball even though I saw exactly where it landed. This coming from the guy who typically finds every’s ball for them. A did find balls in this rough twice and was unable to get an 8 or 9 iron to go more than 50 yds.
Too much for so little
The course was in terrible shape. You couldn't drive the cart anywhere a terrible golfer might hit a ball. I lost a dozen balls in open play because the grass was too long and I had to walk to find my ball. I was stuck behind a fireside who have never heard of playing through. Not worth the $55.
Rip off
The greens were about the same length as shag carpet! Got repeatedly hit into by group behind us, even though we were clearly having to wait for upwards of 10-15 minutes on every shot. And worst of all is getting charged $110 for this amazing round of golf!!! Totally not worth it at all
Always fun
Greens are bit more furry than I'm used to on other area courses, but overall the course is in good shape for this Texas heat! The layout is a fun challenge and the staff are great. New carts with the latest GPS software. Will be back a few times this year!
Greedy
44$ for a rider. Course is average at best. Trash for value.
We just aerated greens and fairways and also verticut greens, tees and fairways. We are doing a lot of work to set the course up for great conditions this fall. The spectator cart fee is actually $45 on weekends. We price is that way so we have enough carts for actual golfers. Most courses don't even offer spectator carts on weekends.
