The Golf Club Star Ranch
About
Hutto’s been put on the golf map now that the first-class Star Ranch has opened up on what was once a cattle ranch, boasting a unique collaborative effort from the Morrish brothers (Jay and Carter) and the Bechtol, Russell design firm.
The course sits on a hill and is built around a centralized lake, featuring the typical spectacular Hill Country topography highlighted by plush, undulating fairways and bleached white sand bunkers.
No. 2 is one of the most difficult holes and the first real challenge of your golf day. The 417-yard par 4 has more of an open feel than some of the other holes, but it’s length generally means a rather long approach, and the green is surrounded by several massive bunkers.
Getting there : From Austin, take I-35 north and exit Parmer Ln. Turn right and go east on Parmer to Dessau Rd. Turn left and go north on Dessau, which becomes FM 685. Go 5 miles past FM 1825 in Pflugerville and the club is on the left.

Not common of course, but this happened one round when the cows from the neighboring field decided the grass was greener on the other side. Photo submitted by GordonATX on 07/03/2013
Good Challenge
Great conditions. Good balance of short ,long par 4's. Very enjoyable. Great practice area.
Poor Experience w/Management and Staff
I've played this course many times and usually have good experiences. The course
is a good test and usually in good shape, although they charge too much $50-$60. This is not a country club or resort type course for that kind of money, but it's still a very solid course and worth playing (plus it's close to my house so can't beat that). However, had very poor experience with the staff (that really is due to the management team there). I recommend you stay away from Star Ranch for next couple weeks because they just aerated/punched their greens few days ago. The problem is they did not advise us when we booked the round yesterday (three days after they already aerated) and still haven't posted it anywhere here on GolfNow or their own website. We all understand and appreciate routine course maintenance and upkeep, especially of the greens. However, what we all DON'T appreciate is management trying to hide this from the public and charging max green fees w/o notification so the consumer can make an educated decision. We asked for a discount since the greens were unputtable and extremely bumpy. Staff member basically told us wasn't his problem and we had to talk to management, who conveniently couldn't be located at that time. Good course, very poor management. Stay away for couple weeks till the greens recover.
Course was in good condition. Only drawback were the bunkers. They could use some tlc.
Always in excellent shape!
Star Ranch never disappoints. My favorite course in central Texas, even in our Texas August weather the course is in great shape. We played a 4 pm round on a Saturday afternoon - foursome - and finished in 3 hrs. We did get a bit fortunate with the cloud cover, saved us from heat exhaustion. Highly recommended.
Pleasurable Round of Golf
Second time to try to play golf at Star Ranch. First time I was rained out and thought that might occur again but fortunately the rain held off. People were great and the course was in very playable condition. Played with a member of course who was very hospitable and made the round that much more enjoyable.
My only disappointment was the golf course offered an all inclusive round of golf that included a meal as part of the fee. The staff said you could only get all inclusive if you reserved directly with the club. Not sure why GolfNow reservation would not include same amenities.
Nonetheless, I would recommend the Golf Club of Star Ranch.
Great course
The course was in great shape. The greens putted true and the fairways were nice to hit the ball off of. Pace of play was good. Our foursome finished the round in a little over 4 hours with no groups piling up or waiting.it was hot but there was a breeze blowing most of the day that helped. The cart girls came by every few holes to make sure we were well hydrated. We had a great time and will definitely return.
Great course
Love the layout of the course. Challenging but very fair. Love the greens. Large and a lot of undulation but roll true. Great clubhouse and amenities. Would definitely recommend this course to everyone and will be playing it again.
Fun day at Star Ranch
Play here as often as possible, played here 15 years ago as well. Enjoyed not having all those apartments and house so close to golf course as now. Feel like you're playing in a stadium! Only other complaint was that for some stupid reason they put an extra single into the group making it a fivesome ahead of our foursome of guys and gals! We were playing smoothly until the seventh hole when they joined up! After that we waited on every shot! But we enjoyed the day so much we wouldn't let that upset our Star Ranch experience!
Great Course
Whatever you do, do not book at tee time at this course on Golfnow. You will not get the free food or the second 18 at no charge. Book direct and save big bucks, no kidding.
Worth the drive
Star Ranch was about a two hour drive for me but I'm glad I made the trip. Staff were very nice, the practice facilities were outstanding and the course was in excellent condition. The only issue was the course was hosting a pretty big tournament so the pace of play was slow to say the least. But it gave me time to enjoy the scenery on each hole. Would definitely play there in the future.
Star Ranch
Course was in excellent shape throughout. They have done landscape work to greatly enhance the look. Highly recommend for a good day of golf.
Terrific layout
The course is in very good condition except for the greens. They were recently punched and there was insufficient sand to fill the holes up to the surfaces of the greens.
Once this is corrected, I will return.
Always a good experience
The course was in really good condition especially for this time of the year. Greens were in exceptional condition. The breakfast and lunch buffet are a great deal too. I will be playing more than last year because it is really good value for the price.
Worth the drive
Always enjoy playing this course. Great range, practice area, views, and the greens are always in good shape. It's a bit of a hike, coming from central austin, but worth it for the change in scenery.
Great Course ion Great Shape
Excellent course for slightly above average golfer. Fairways and greens in great shape, Some bunkers need a bit more sand [and I visited a bunch of them]. Threesome played in under 4-hours with foursome in front of us.
Tourment slowed play
First off I love them course. One of the better taken care of courses around Austin. The greens rolled true and the fairways are in great shape. One this given day there was a tournament and which required me to park in the grass all the way in the front of entrance. The also ran out of golfcarts so I wasn't able to get one until 10 mins before tee time. Wish I would have know about the tourney. Also when we did the turn there was no one up by the drinks and food so we're unable to get anything. My advice is to not have the tourney be a higher priority than other customers. Besides that though I love the course.
Excellent Round at Star Ranch
We enjoyed a quick round of Golf at Star Ranch. The course is in excellent condition and very well maintained, the greens were true and rolling like a fine carpet.
