The Golf Club Star Ranch
About
Hutto’s been put on the golf map now that the first-class Star Ranch has opened up on what was once a cattle ranch, boasting a unique collaborative effort from the Morrish brothers (Jay and Carter) and the Bechtol, Russell design firm.
The course sits on a hill and is built around a centralized lake, featuring the typical spectacular Hill Country topography highlighted by plush, undulating fairways and bleached white sand bunkers.
No. 2 is one of the most difficult holes and the first real challenge of your golf day. The 417-yard par 4 has more of an open feel than some of the other holes, but it’s length generally means a rather long approach, and the green is surrounded by several massive bunkers.
Getting there : From Austin, take I-35 north and exit Parmer Ln. Turn right and go east on Parmer to Dessau Rd. Turn left and go north on Dessau, which becomes FM 685. Go 5 miles past FM 1825 in Pflugerville and the club is on the left.

Not common of course, but this happened one round when the cows from the neighboring field decided the grass was greener on the other side. Photo submitted by GordonATX on 07/03/2013
Had my best round ever
A very nice course in very good condition and not overly difficult. If I can have my best score ever you can too. They have a great deal on a breakfast buffet with your green fee and lunch buffet as well if you finish you're round before 2:00 pm.
WTF happened to the greens
from the best consistently good greens to plinko .... bumpy slow they have let the place go
Get course
Challenging and forgiving. Greens and fairways were well kept. Nice that you could attack pin locations. It has rained a couple days prior so bunkers were packed down. I don't imagine this is normal. In fact I saw the staff working feverishly to fix them. I had a great time out there would recommend this course to any golfer.
Beautiful course
The course was in wonderful condition. Pace of play was good. Greens were fast. Nice layout.
Checkin was pleasant. Starter was a joy to converse with at hole 1. Cute Beer cart girl came by at least 4-5 times. Players attendant in a cart came by to offer cold water to those who needed it. A must play.
Tough shape and 5 somes allowed
I had played here a couple years ago and it was in good shape. Last visit green were in pretty poor condition, lots of sparse spots on greens. We were paired up with another 2 which is cool but, they sent a couple 2 somes out right behind us. Let a 2 go through on the 2nd hole. Played the front in just under 2 hours being pushed slightly most of the time. Back 9 ran into a wall. Got to the first par 5 on the back and had a 2 a 5 a 4 and our 4 all on the same hole. I called the pro shop and they did send the marshall out which seemed to speed things up a bit. Overall the course is easy a lot of the holes you can hit a fairway over and still be fine.
Star Ranch
Played on Mothers Day morning. Driving range and practice areas were nice and free. I usually try to book the first time in the morning because I usually can play in less than 2 1/2 hours as a twosome. Teed off at 7:07. First available tee time from what I could see on their website and golfnow. Flew through the first 6 holes and then ran into a single but looked ahead of him and there was a threesome. Not sure how the single got in front of us but no big deal. The 3some must have been members but never let him or us play through. No Marshall on site till the back nine and asked him what was up but he had no comment. Back nine took 2+ hours and we were the 3rd group off. No telling what it is like to play later. Caught up with the 3some in the parking lot and asked them why wouldn't you let a single play through. They said they didn't see anyone behind them but every hole from #6 there was 2 groups on the same hole.
Other than that the course was in good shape and the rates were great. Not sure if I will play there again due to the slow pace.
Great Round on a Great Course
I play this course often and recommend to everyone who ask. The course is always in good condition and this weekend was no different. Greens were flawless and fairways were nice. I was annoyed that the golfnow tee time does not include all inclusive. I ended up paying more on golfnow then if i booked directly with all inclusive. I will not book with golf now for this course anymore knowing this. Overall the this course is my favorite in this area
Best value in greater Austin area
Best shape I have ever seen the course in. It's always in good shape, but this was top notch. Fairways were carved out, rough was fair but present. Greens were excellent and rolled true. Bunkers in good shape.
I got my first eagle ever on an approach shot. It occurred on the par 5 5th hole. Third shot from just behind the bunkers about 100 yards out and dropped right into the cup on the fly.
Perfet day Perfect Course
I was hitting the ball great, and the green were sticking the ball. They were in great shape. Fairways were cut perfect. The rough was really rough. They could have been trimmed down a little instead of knee high, but that made it more challenging. Just a reminder, stay out of the rough!
Beautiful course
This was my second time playing this course and it was even more impressive than the first time. I love the challenge and the conditions were resort like. Can't wait to come back!
Good
I thought it was a good course, great after a nice rain, ONLY hold back was the near 5 hours it took to play 16 holes (darkness). Starter, (wasn't there half the time) did a poor job monitoring pace of play.
Great track
One of the best on the north side. Always challenging with risk rewards and the greens are always nice
Wonderful condition
The course was in great condition despite the recent dry weather. Greens were exceptional. Great value.
Drizzly Sunday at Star Ranch
The course was in good condition, but the weather was a tad unfavorable. Large driving range as well as putting and chipping areas. Would like to play this course when the weather was nice. Fairly tough for a mediocre golfer like myself, but the course itself isn't overly challenging.
Great Course
Great course!
The overall look and feel was fantastic. Tee boxes were green and lush. Fairways were a little brown but its winter golf. They were lush with enough grass to take a nice divot. Greens were phenomenal for this time of year. Roll was pure and straight. Even the said traps were nice. I purchased a tee time at 2 pm for $28. Really good deal and looking to go back soon!
Holes 14 had a sprinkler stay on an was a bit flooded but the the hole is smiple to play around it.
Valentine's round
Took my girlfriend to play at Star Ranch for the 1st time. Very good round - the holes were challenging enough for me but not daunting for her.
Monday golf outing
Star Ranch is a great course for the money. Traps had a lot of new fluffy sand that was very inconsistent in depth.
