Course Highlights
Star Ranch consistently impresses with its well-protected greens, wider fairways, and course conditions that rank among the best in the Austin metro. Complimentary range balls, a roaming beverage cart, and genuinely friendly staff deliver outstanding value for a public course.

About

Holes 18
Type Public
Par 71
Length 7017 yards
Slope 130
Rating 73.5

Hutto’s been put on the golf map now that the first-class Star Ranch has opened up on what was once a cattle ranch, boasting a unique collaborative effort from the Morrish brothers (Jay and Carter) and the Bechtol, Russell design firm.

The course sits on a hill and is built around a centralized lake, featuring the typical spectacular Hill Country topography highlighted by plush, undulating fairways and bleached white sand bunkers.

No. 2 is one of the most difficult holes and the first real challenge of your golf day. The 417-yard par 4 has more of an open feel than some of the other holes, but it’s length generally means a rather long approach, and the green is surrounded by several massive bunkers.

Getting there : From Austin, take I-35 north and exit Parmer Ln. Turn right and go east on Parmer to Dessau Rd. Turn left and go north on Dessau, which becomes FM 685. Go 5 miles past FM 1825 in Pflugerville and the club is on the left.

Open area and windy

A great course in NW Austin area. Green condition is amongst the best in the area during winter time - you can actually see green grass. Players were nice and allow you to play pass them as I was play solo and wasting no time to catch next birdie :)

very nice course

I really enjoyed playing this course. The real challenge is finding your ball if you get off the fairway though.

Excellent course

Overall this is a great course. The weather was great but the wind picked up on the back nine. Enjoyed our round and I am looking forward to the next time I can play there.

Walked

$75: 36 holes & lunch

Paid $75 at 10AM but was able to get my money's worth by playing 36 holes - we barely finished - and the lunch that is baked into the price is pretty awesome. Lots of options, buffet style. Course was fun and long - some of the green were choppy but mostly because people don't fix there marks on the green. Overall, awesome day and awesome course.

Conditions are better.......but still needs time.

First time back since course re-opened. Pace of play was great. Fairways and greens much better. However some fairways already starting to dry out. Some greens were recently treated and not mowed......were spikey and somewhat slow. Still have areas in rough with no grass and cracked dirt. Not currently worth the prime green fees being advertised.....discounted rates might be in line until conditions improve. I like the course and it's a good layout, but just needs more time.

Nice Course, Needs Attention To Details

Several areas of the course were overly saturated, but not from rain. Bunker with 4" of standing water; boggy spots that swallowed balls. Numerous fairways where animals had uprooted the grass. Most all greens and tee-boxes were in good shape.

Course was great - Golf Now price was no good

If I had booked direct it would have been cheaper plus lunch included. I booked through Golf Now and it cost more and no lunch included - not a very good deal

Fun course, good condition, terrible pace

Star Ranch is consistently in pretty good shape, and the layout is fun and not overly challenging. The value is pretty good with the all-inclusive buffet breakfast and lunch. However I can't recommend Star Ranch as highly as other courses in the Austin area due to the pace of play. We had a pretty early tee time because we knew it stacked up here on the weekends, but the people who run it made sure we had a nearly 5 hour round by starting groups on both 1 and 10, and the marshals didn't say a thing about the slow pace of the groups in front of us. I feel sorry for the groups who went off mid-morning. They may still be out there as I write this at 7:00pm.

Nice course and wide open fairways

It is always in good shape and easy to get to. It is a very easy course to play with huge landing zone and greens, and the bunkers are usually ok to play out of. I will go back and play again.

Great Day on Course

My buddy and I played 18 and hit from the back tees.for the first time. This was really a different experience but a fun one.We actually did very, very well considering the distances. This day was overcast and the weather in the 70s and was just absolutely wonderful. The greens had recently been aerated and were sandy, which made the ball do "tricky" movements but overall we had much fun.

Hot deal was a super bargain.

Great course. Bunkers set up course well. Great condition. Only thing that kept it a four star rating was the bunkers. They were not in good shape. Overall a super course.

Love the course - very unhelpful pro shop with tee time behind large scramble tourney

Our tee time was right behind a large scramble tournament that was doing a shotgun start. As we were checking in we asked if we could step on it and try to get in front of them (the three of us play at a 3 hour 18 hole pace) or even stick us out on some random hole ahead of them so we would not have a 6 hour round. The guy at the desk was not willing to acoomodate the request in any way shape or form...instead saying, "they'll play fast..." to which I replied, "have you ever actually played golf or do you just work here?". So, we asked for forgiveness instead of permission and played the first hole and then got to the 2nd hole where we saw a foursome waiting on the tee and 2 foursomes on the fairway and another on the green. We skipped the cart path and headed to 11 where the course was WIDE OPEN. We finished 18 and then spun around and headed to #2 where we got hung up before...once again WIDE OPEN. We finished our round in 3:15, no thanks to the very unhelpful attendant.

Great course

The course was beautiful and I had a fantastic round. The greens and the sand traps were in great condition and I sampled many of the traps. The new mower they used on the greens made them fast and the breaks hold true. A challenging course but still fun for all levels of golfers.

Fun Morrish design with all-inclusive touch

There are a lot of semi-private, residential golf clubs on the outskirts of Austin like Avery Ranch, Teravista & River Place. Star Ranch stacks right up with them thanks to a pleasant piece of rural land, not quite plowed over with housing to the extent of some other more-developed golf course communities, to go with a fun, playable Jay Morrish design and some nice all-inclusive trimmings to lure golfers their direction.

Star Ranch is definitely on the easier side for lower handicappers, and the middle-back tees are just a 120 slope. There are some challenging shots however, and in typical Morrish fashion, a couple short par 4s and risk-reward par 5s to make things interesting.

The facility is really good, including a large driving range and multiple short game greens. Tee times here normally include breakfast, range balls and lunch (I was particularly satisfied with the lunch buffet, which included such Texas staples as brisket, smoked sausage, fried okra and more). Also included are space-available, free replays, but don't bank on it. This joint can get busy on weekends, which can bring pace to an five hour-plus slog, which was the case for our Saturday morning round despite teeing off before 9 a.m.
