Heritage Ranch Golf and Country Club
About
Heritage Ranch serves up an especially challenging par 72, 6,988-yard Arthur Hills design that rolls through the oaks and pecans just outside of Fairview. And while it’s part of a gated, active-adult residential community, the course is open to the public and especially fun because it integrates well with the neighborhood. Houses line some fairways, but a fair number of holes provide that natural, rural feel that is always so welcome on a golf course.
While the course is not particularly demanding off the tees, the real challenge at Heritage Ranch comes from the mound-shaped greens. If your irons aren’t dialed in, you’ll be working hard for ups and downs.
No. 1 is a unique opener because it bends left down to a fairway and green that aren’t visible from the tee. Big drives can get close, but the recommended play is to take a long iron and draw it over the hill.
The par 5s on the front are nice holes. No. 3 doglegs right and requires a good tee shot, followed by a relatively easy second shot into a widening fairway toward the hole. The trick is nailing the short iron (almost a blind shot) into the elevated green guarded by bunkers on the front. No. 7 is longer and offers a good chance for birdie, again because of its wide-open nature.
No. 16 is the signature hole: a par 3 masterpiece that plays along a natural spring waterfall. You’ll need to nail a long iron over the valley and avoid the trees that overhang the fairway from the right.
No. 18 is a good finisher–it’s a long par 4 that doglegs left around a few large fairway bunkers, then works its way uphill to an elevated, mound-shaped green surrounded by bunkers. Ups and downs are possible here if you miss the green back left, which is easy to do when you approach with a fairway wood.
Getting there : Only 20 miles northeast of Dallas, take I-75 north to the Stacy Road exit, then turn right and drive to the dead end. The road jogs to the left, then right, and continues as Stacy Road. The entrance is 2 miles down on the left.

Great course and conditions
I thought considering Texas July heat and no rain in what seems like forever the course was in great condition. I love the layout. If I didn’t live so far away I would join the club.
Best kept public course in north DFW
Conditions/course maintenance were definitely above average (compared to other courses in the area). They paired me up with a foursome and had I stayed with them it would have been a five hour round, so just like everywhere else pace of play was abismal.
If you’re reading this review, please play faster, and encourage your friends to play faster as well (you’ll likely score better).
Enjoyed
This is a relatively less difficult course where you can swing driver more freely in my opinion. Fairways and green were in good shape. The areas off the green look maintained reasonably. A complaint is there is no water station throughout the course.
We kept getting slow play warnings which became somewhat after a while. We waited for the group in front of us every hole. But I didn’t see anyone came out and encourage the slow group to speed up. Or, can the warning be sent to only the 1st group that clog the course?
Very fun course in good shape
Overall it's a fun course in good shape. When I went though the 3rd-8th holes were cart path only and one hole was temporarily a par 3 instead of a par 4 (probably to repair some of the fairway)
Greens were awful
I love Heritage Ranch, but the greens were horrible yesterday. Extremely bumpy, patchy in places, hadn’t been mowed and in need of water. The course is one of my favorites and I have never seen the greens like this so I am hopeful they get this addressed and not lose the greens as it starts to get really hot. The rest of the course is in good shape.
Great course
The course was in good condition. There was a temporary tee box that was shortened to a par 3.
I would suggest to have a bucket of water for golfers to use to wet their towels.
5 Hours of Torture
Got stuck behind a 4 some of older gentlemen that could not get off the tee box past the ladies tee but insisted on playing the 6,500 yard tees. I think they hit 3-4 shots to reach the green on par 4's and wouldn't let my faster 3 some play through. Resulted in nearly 5 hours of torture waiting every single shot watching them look for lost balls and barely hit the ball above head high. No marshal to be seen and despite warnings on the carts asking everyone to speed up pace of play nothing happened.
Greens and fairways were punched 2 weeks ago and haven't recovered yet, very slow and bumpy greens but was warned ahead of the round so can't say much there.
Greens need work but otherwise this course is great for the price!
A- Condition usually A+
Like the title says the greens were in a little bit worse condition than usual. This is nitpicking though as this course is usually top 5 in the area for. Overall condition especially the greens. They have obviously punched them recently and when they grow in fully I would expect nothing less than the usual condition and maybe even better with the extra rain this year.
Otherwise I always enjoy my round here and the food at the turn is great too. If you haven’t checked out this course it’s definitely worth the trip.
Great course. Poor greens
The course was in great condition from tee box to green. Once you got to the green was a different story. They were very slow and bumpy.
This is the nicest course north of Dallas. Amazing layout and design. Great staff and price. Greens were ok, glad they were cut down and should be amazing within a week or two. Highly recommend!!
