Old Brickyard Golf Course
About
Some argue that the tricked-up golf course has no place in today’s game, but they might change their mind after visiting the eclectic Old Brickyard. As the name implies, the course lays out in and around an old brickyard, featuring dramatic elevation changes, blind shots, and some unbelievable, almost impossible holes. This is one you’ll want to play just to say you’ve seen it.
The opening holes are pretty basic as you traverse northward before turning into the meat of the course, where the dramatic elevation changes start wreaking havoc on your club selection. After about the third or fourth hole, every hole seems to have some unique feature.
The Old Brickyard Lake comes into play on holes 9-11, some of the most difficult holes you’ll find anywhere. After you limp homeward suffering near-disasters on the tricky par 3 No. 8, which plays over water and seems to drop about 5 stories, and the demented 9th hole, which features a funky tee shot and challenging approach over water to a difficult green, No. 10 is not a welcome sight. Hole 10 plays from an elevated tee box, with water along the right. Water comes into play on the next two shots as well, since it cuts across the dogleg-right fairway. If you’re struggling, this is a double-digit hole for sure.
There’s no real break after No. 10, either. The 13th requires a precision short iron to a tiered green. More surprises await as you finish the round, so be prepared. The yard is a fun day of golf.
Getting there : Take I-45 south from Dallas to Ferris, then exit 267 and continue down the access road to the entrance on the right.

Golfer Reviews
Great Job on the Greens Remodel
Played here on Tuesday and all 18 holes are back open. They did a great job on the 9 holes they had closed for the past 2 months. Greens rolled smooth and true. It was really nice playing those holes that were closed, the fairways were like carpet with not a divot in sight. I really like how they made #9 green bigger and moved it closer the the edge of the lake. Nice Job, I will be back soon...
Current conditions
Course is currently operating on 9 holes. You will play those 9 holes twice to complete your 18 holes. 2,7,10,11,12,13,14,16,17. The other 9 holes are under repair construction. The open 9 holes are in good condition.I would recommend it if you are looking for an inexpensive round this is a good option.
Missing half the holes
Course has some excellent designed holes. The greens were in a decent condition with multiple holes having some bare spots around the edges. Half of the holes on the course were shut down when we went for re-sodding. Not sure what the time table is for this process or when they’ll have all 18 holes ready for play. Because of 9 holes being closed, they have makeshift trails for the golf carts to shortcut to the open holes. This created a TON of mud has we had a bit of rain on the day we played. Overall I enjoyed the course and would return once they’ve re-opened the other holes.
Dissapointed
This course should notify the booker about the course issues.
half of the course was available to play.
we had to play holes 2,7,10,11,12,13,14,16,17 twice to complete a round.
There was no price reduction or no refunds.
Greens struggling
Course layout is interesting/fun with a variety of elevation changes. Tee boxes and fairways in good shape but almost every green had at least issue with some large patches poor grass. Much worse green conditions than a year ago.
Overall good value for the money
Fun as fugg
Challenging/ super short w plenty of stretched out par 5’s/ good chances for some birdies and some easy bogeys as well… I’m gonna set my course record here no doubt!
Poor Greens
Love the layout, fairways are nice, but most of the greens have damage, much damage. Root rot, something. They have to find the only patch of grass left on 8-10 or more greens to place the pin.
Great layout
Great layout that offers blind tee shots, challenging par 3s,and shots over water. The greens are scheduled to be repaired soon.Overall the course offers a challenge for the average golfer.
Diamond in the rough
Beautiful topography, one of the best in North Texas. Fairways,, tees and greens need some major living thought. anybody want to put together an investment group to buy it and redo the whole thing? It would be fabulous…
Much improved
Been a while since I’ve played here. You can see the improvements going on. I’ve always liked the layout and the fairways are 100% better. Greens do need some work but still rolled well. I will be back soon.
Unplayable Green
The course has a very nice layout and the staff is very friendly. However, I cannot recommend the course at this time. The fairways are in pretty good shape but all 18 greens are in bad condition. A couple of the greens are okay. But overall they are not. I enjoy playing this course but it will be a while before I play it again.
Amazing layout, with beautiful views, but the conditions need work
The course is one of the coolest layouts and has some of the prettiest views of any course I’ve played within an hour of McKinney. Challenging tee shots, hilly fairways and sloped greens made for a fun round. The only flaws to me would be the condition of the course on some holes and all of the greens. Packed mud and lots of weeds on the greens made them very bumpy and to a lack of roll. Standing water on some holes in the fairway around the greens was an annoyance, as well. All-in-all a great day of golf and I’ll be back for sure, as long as I get another hot deal, or they fix the greens and then I can see paying full price
Played here over 50 times
I usually love this course, but this time was the worst. Most of the greens had little no grass. The course was drenched in water, but not from rain. 2 of the fairways as I was standing on soggy ground, all of a sudden the sprinklers came on and they ran for a good 30 mins and this was at 1030 on a Sunday. I may never go back
