Old Brickyard Golf Course
About
Some argue that the tricked-up golf course has no place in today’s game, but they might change their mind after visiting the eclectic Old Brickyard. As the name implies, the course lays out in and around an old brickyard, featuring dramatic elevation changes, blind shots, and some unbelievable, almost impossible holes. This is one you’ll want to play just to say you’ve seen it.
The opening holes are pretty basic as you traverse northward before turning into the meat of the course, where the dramatic elevation changes start wreaking havoc on your club selection. After about the third or fourth hole, every hole seems to have some unique feature.
The Old Brickyard Lake comes into play on holes 9-11, some of the most difficult holes you’ll find anywhere. After you limp homeward suffering near-disasters on the tricky par 3 No. 8, which plays over water and seems to drop about 5 stories, and the demented 9th hole, which features a funky tee shot and challenging approach over water to a difficult green, No. 10 is not a welcome sight. Hole 10 plays from an elevated tee box, with water along the right. Water comes into play on the next two shots as well, since it cuts across the dogleg-right fairway. If you’re struggling, this is a double-digit hole for sure.
There’s no real break after No. 10, either. The 13th requires a precision short iron to a tiered green. More surprises await as you finish the round, so be prepared. The yard is a fun day of golf.
Getting there : Take I-45 south from Dallas to Ferris, then exit 267 and continue down the access road to the entrance on the right.

Very, Very Challenging Hole Photo submitted by fryersroost on 05/08/2013
Great layout. Good condition for this time of year.
Tricked up
First time playing this course and probably the last. I’m sure it’s much nice in the spring and summer time, but I thought the course was too tricked up or gimmicky especially on the front nine. Very hard to know where to aim as there are many blind shots. A course guide or layout would be nice. Back nine was more normal. Too many other courses in Dallas area to play at that are in better shape and have a better layout.
SLOWEST ROUND EVER
They had multiple 5 and 6 player groups. Tee’d off at 11:30 finished at 5:15....
It was windy day.
Was so windy. But not bad because the course was good with water, hill, ....
It was enjoyable and I will play again soon.
Very fun and challenging!
This course has gotten better over the last year or so. Green quality has improved and, as always, the layout is super fun and challenging.
Great fit and length.
Enjiyed the ease of getting on tee boxes abd general play.
Last time
To many blind shots cost 8s ok until you account for all the balls your going to lose.
Definitely should not play this course on a windy day
Golf
OBY is one of my favorites when I want to dial in and find time my game. Open fairways but challenging as well. Lots of elevated greens are fun.
Challenging layout
Played on a windy day. Course is in pretty good shape, Most greens were in great shape. Overall enjoyed it very much.
Not bad at all, if you like right lies.
Fairways are narrow and undulating and hard to hit (loved it). Very tight lies everywhere. Almost like West Texas hard pan, but with a little grass. Greens were in very good shape. They held very well, putted true and we’re nice and fast (10 or 11, as a guess). Note: blind tee shots and hard fairways lend a hand in encroaching on the group in front of you. Be careful.
Could be better
One day this course will have the right financial investment to get it to the level the layout deserves. The putting green, driving range, and clubhouse could use updating. Brickyard is a real gem underneath the lack of a higher standard.
Great course for the cost
An interesting course! When the gentleman in the pro shop handed me the course guide he mentioned some ‘interesting’ holes. What an applicable description.
Some areas need attention (weeds) but somewhat a hidden gem for us. With the very cost-efficient green fees and geographic proximity, we will be back.
Fun layout good greens.
Many interesting holes, with lots of elevation changes, some blind shots, but the greens rolled nice. Fairways and rough dry and thin, they should use some water from all the water hazards for irrigation.
