Some argue that the tricked-up golf course has no place in today’s game, but they might change their mind after visiting the eclectic Old Brickyard. As the name implies, the course lays out in and around an old brickyard, featuring dramatic elevation changes, blind shots, and some unbelievable, almost impossible holes. This is one you’ll want to play just to say you’ve seen it.

The opening holes are pretty basic as you traverse northward before turning into the meat of the course, where the dramatic elevation changes start wreaking havoc on your club selection. After about the third or fourth hole, every hole seems to have some unique feature.

The Old Brickyard Lake comes into play on holes 9-11, some of the most difficult holes you’ll find anywhere. After you limp homeward suffering near-disasters on the tricky par 3 No. 8, which plays over water and seems to drop about 5 stories, and the demented 9th hole, which features a funky tee shot and challenging approach over water to a difficult green, No. 10 is not a welcome sight. Hole 10 plays from an elevated tee box, with water along the right. Water comes into play on the next two shots as well, since it cuts across the dogleg-right fairway. If you’re struggling, this is a double-digit hole for sure.

There’s no real break after No. 10, either. The 13th requires a precision short iron to a tiered green. More surprises await as you finish the round, so be prepared. The yard is a fun day of golf.

Getting there : Take I-45 south from Dallas to Ferris, then exit 267 and continue down the access road to the entrance on the right.

Horrible

Greens were brown, way to wet. The Carts are very fast so that was fun and made for a quick outing. Pot holes everywhere on cart paths. The smell from the dump wasn’t too bad but present. Couldn’t find very many yardage markers.

We had fun but the condition of the greens and fairways were very poor. The layout is nice being that most of the holes were straight.

We will try it out again this summer.

Old Brickyard

This course is in better condition than most in the area for this time of year. There is actually grass in the fairways not just dirt. Greens are a little bare but putt well and the ball rolls pretty good.

Great value

Bring lots of extra balls as it is easy to lose them with the abundance of water and hazard areas. Still an enjoyable course and friendly staff. I would recommend this course and will continue to play here when I can.

Serve food with no mask during a pandemic?

How this place can checkout customers for food and not even try to wear a mask during a global pandemic is beyond me. Brunette had a total attitude also. Enjoyed the round of golf but her service completely ruined it. She should be fired and the place shut down by the CDC. What a shame and waste of a potentially nice course.

Wet and Muddy Golf Experience!

I believe I just chose the wrong day to play golf at this course, it rained 2-3 days here before playing. Therefore it was very muddy and we were warned to stay on the cart paths. This was not a problem, however the cart paths were a long way from the fairways/greens.

It was very confusing to find several holes because they were not marked, so I was lost for a while. Also, the cart’s breaks did not work easily! I tried 4 carts before choosing another cart that did not work to well either.

It’s hard to fault the golf course for all the frustration I experienced. I just learned not to play this course after a couple days of rain.

Moreover, it was a frustrating 6 holes and I had paid for 18 holes! After 6 holes I decided that I did not want to continue to be frustrated and left for home!! :(
