Old Brickyard Golf Course
About
Some argue that the tricked-up golf course has no place in today’s game, but they might change their mind after visiting the eclectic Old Brickyard. As the name implies, the course lays out in and around an old brickyard, featuring dramatic elevation changes, blind shots, and some unbelievable, almost impossible holes. This is one you’ll want to play just to say you’ve seen it.
The opening holes are pretty basic as you traverse northward before turning into the meat of the course, where the dramatic elevation changes start wreaking havoc on your club selection. After about the third or fourth hole, every hole seems to have some unique feature.
The Old Brickyard Lake comes into play on holes 9-11, some of the most difficult holes you’ll find anywhere. After you limp homeward suffering near-disasters on the tricky par 3 No. 8, which plays over water and seems to drop about 5 stories, and the demented 9th hole, which features a funky tee shot and challenging approach over water to a difficult green, No. 10 is not a welcome sight. Hole 10 plays from an elevated tee box, with water along the right. Water comes into play on the next two shots as well, since it cuts across the dogleg-right fairway. If you’re struggling, this is a double-digit hole for sure.
There’s no real break after No. 10, either. The 13th requires a precision short iron to a tiered green. More surprises await as you finish the round, so be prepared. The yard is a fun day of golf.
Getting there : Take I-45 south from Dallas to Ferris, then exit 267 and continue down the access road to the entrance on the right.

Very, Very Challenging Hole Photo submitted by fryersroost on 05/08/2013
They are making much needed improvements to some of the cart paths which made for a smoother ride. Some of the old paths were grave and very rough. The stop brake on the cart we used hardly worked which was a problem because this is a hilly course. My wife loves the layout so we will be back to play soon.
Must play
If you haven’t played this course make some plans to play it .. The greens are in AMAZING condition rolling true. I haven’t played here in a couple of years and I don’t recall the greens ever being that NICE. The pace of play was excellent for a morning tee time. I recommend you make that drive you won’t be disappointed.
Good shape and great bargain.
Course was in good shape. A few weeds on the greens but not bad. They are doing a lot of maintenance on the course at this time.
Great greens, but other issues make it overpriced
The greens at Old Brickyard are really good. As in as good as you would expect paying $40 to play on a weekend morning. However, the tee boxes were in some cases almost completely devoid of grass, and there were too many places where the players in front of us looked like they were safely gone and out of reach only to reappear. There are just too many blind spots, and without something like a GPS unit on the cart or something else to tell you when it's safe to hit, you just end up with the 200 yard hitters being mad at you all day when you think they're gone and you and your 15 year old son both drive it past where they were waiting to hit their 3rd shots because of going into the trees and taking way longer than the allowed 3 minutes to look for their balls.
That all said, if the rate was something like $30 on a weekend, I would likely have had little concern about the pace of play or lack of technology. However, at $40+ (with tax / fees), this was an overpriced round.
Slow Pace
Overall it is not a. bad course but the pace of play was horrible. Finished 10 minutes shy of 5 hours. There is not a Marshall to keep the pace of play going. They could certainly add more yardage markers. The only markers are the flat stones in the middle of the fairways. Greens were mostly in good condition. Tee boxes could use some top dressing as they have a lot of uneven spots that can make it more difficult teeing off. Also a lot of errant shots flying around from other fairways. There seemed to be a lot of beginner level golfers out there that also don’t understand etiquette.
Really confusing layout
The cart paths were very narrow bumpy and not well marked. Hard to find the tees. Not a fam of some of the holes that are completely blind. The brisket sandwiches were really good and the staff was friendly. There were alot of bumpy patches on the course.
Interesting
Fun course, very unique but 4 blind holes need some work. Not able to see anything(fairway or green) leads to way too much uncertainty. Pro shop shoved a twosome in between our twosome and the threesome in front if us at the turn. Starting them on 10 sandwiched in front of us instead of starting them on 1 was a money grab and not cool.
Don’t play this course
First, the course layout is ridiculous. So many blind shots oh and switchbacks on the cart path from green to tee in where you could easily get hit by the previous tee. The long drive from 15 to 16 is stupid. Oh and yes you share a cart path with those on whole 13. The greens are terribly slow.
Why even have white tees when the scorecard only shows for Red, blue and gold?
Don’t waste your money. I’m not a great golfer but I do play a lot. This is just not a fun course and you need a helmet to be safe.
I shot a respectable 85 and that was completely just not giving a darn due to this isn’t a legit course.
Fun course with challenging holes
This is a fun course to play with unique elevation changes throughout. Several greens had areas under repair but these were limited, otherwise greens roll great and have enjoying & challenging slopes. My one critique is if you miss the fairway, the odds are limited you will recover your ball. Some of this is due to nature areas, others just need to be regularly mowed.
Great round.
Amazing Value for a Good Course
I'll be honest, pulling up to it I thought that maybe I would be overpaying for my round. Right off the highway, clubhouse doesn't look great, looking like a very casual crowd. Well, let me be the first to admit I was wrong, the course was actually extremely fun. It's not very long and a par 71 (USGA GHIN app calls it a par 70, but whatever) but what it lacks in length, it more than makes up for in creative hole layout, greens in fantastic shape, and just an overall tricky round. For the price, I would definitely recommend this course, and the replayability of it is strong since with the funky holes, you'll want another crack at them. Bunkers were a mess and some of the tee boxes were pretty unlevel / needing some care, but certainly did not detract from the experience. Have to mention how shockingly fast, smooth, and true the greens were. Get out there and play it!
Good Course
Fun course. Great elevated holes. Fairways were in good condition. Challenging course! The price for this course is what made it great.
