Some argue that the tricked-up golf course has no place in today’s game, but they might change their mind after visiting the eclectic Old Brickyard. As the name implies, the course lays out in and around an old brickyard, featuring dramatic elevation changes, blind shots, and some unbelievable, almost impossible holes. This is one you’ll want to play just to say you’ve seen it.

The opening holes are pretty basic as you traverse northward before turning into the meat of the course, where the dramatic elevation changes start wreaking havoc on your club selection. After about the third or fourth hole, every hole seems to have some unique feature.

The Old Brickyard Lake comes into play on holes 9-11, some of the most difficult holes you’ll find anywhere. After you limp homeward suffering near-disasters on the tricky par 3 No. 8, which plays over water and seems to drop about 5 stories, and the demented 9th hole, which features a funky tee shot and challenging approach over water to a difficult green, No. 10 is not a welcome sight. Hole 10 plays from an elevated tee box, with water along the right. Water comes into play on the next two shots as well, since it cuts across the dogleg-right fairway. If you’re struggling, this is a double-digit hole for sure.

There’s no real break after No. 10, either. The 13th requires a precision short iron to a tiered green. More surprises await as you finish the round, so be prepared. The yard is a fun day of golf.

Getting there : Take I-45 south from Dallas to Ferris, then exit 267 and continue down the access road to the entrance on the right.

First round 2019 !!

Yes, This was my first round of the year. And it was surprisingly good. The Course, the course. This is not a beginners tract in my opinion. The greens, fairways, and Tee boxes where very well maintained. Cart girls came around three times.

Our group of four played the first hole. That's where you should get the butterflies out, if any. I had a few since it was my first time here and the layout was completely different than any course I have ever played. Front nine are all different approach shots, greens where fast and true, except for a few on the back nine. The course will challenge your ego and your skill. Not as long ,but the elevations make up for that easily. If you haven't played in a while like myself at least pick up every club and get some practice in before you play this tract. If your mental game is not strong are you over confident this course will take you money, and lunch! I had a very good round played all of my clubs except 3. Have a go to club on this course, you'll need it. Use mine several times. I mad 3 error shots, but scorecard didn't reflect from my average (85)Actually could have score high 70's missed to many par putts. Hole 10 most challenging. Play every par 3 like a par 2. Don't be intimidated by the layout or the view and you'll do fine. Enjoyed this course and I will be back. (1) negative took longer than 4 hours played behind a tournament. But still enjoyed Brickyard.

This time of year

The best of this course is the layout. This was my first visit. I will be easy with this review. Layout of the course is great. Most cart paths are concrete; but some need repair. I enjoyed the elevation changes from tee boxes to greens. Looks as though recent rains have washed out and caused some mudslides. Fairways right now are brownish due to recent winter season. The greens actually were in decent shape; balls ran true. Golf carts are gas models; which is great for some of these hilly terrain. If you haven't played this course; get a map layout. Good course for practice rounds. I played mid afternoon; course wasn't backed up; kinda slow. Clubhouse and bar was clean. There is a range onsite. I hope my next visit; fairways maybe in better shape.

Nice, fun course

This course is pretty fun to play. The fairways aren’t too bad being winter weather. Greens are good and smooth although there are few greens with patches that were fixed and should grow in good this spring. The price is really good for the course also.

Full Attention

Do not let your mind wander due to the landscape. This course is just beautiful. The layout is one of the best in my opinion with such a great mix of elevation changes, tight fairways and uneven lies. I will never forget this place and it will always one I come back to. Outstanding place to play.

Great layout sabotaged by terrible conditions

I’m going to give it maybe a little bit of a break, because of the rain last night and since were getting to that time of year, but it’s not that it was super muddy, it’s that this course, which still could’ve been fun, was in terrible condition and this course needs somebody to come in and fix its problems. There are weeds all over the place, the greens are hairy and also weed plagued, and it’s not gonna help that they are letting carts drive on the grass today when they really shouldn’t. I see why it’s fallen in the rankings.

Good Layout

This can be a really fun course. However the pace of play was terrible. Took just under 5 hours to play a round of golf. Lots of people out here looking like it was there first time to play the game. No marshal or beverage cart.

Love this course!!

It's a great course. Not like any other we play. Lots of blind shots due to elevation and brush. Not a long course, plenty of water to wet your whistle. I lose more balls here than any other. Once you play a few times and learn the nuances, it's a blast. Greens were fast today and in great shape. With all the rain we had, it was very soggy. Still a great time

This course requires ball placement.

This course requires you to be accurate with your shots. Must go and look to see where you are suppose to hit because of blind spots.

Old Brickheads

Had a 8:36 tee time, single player. Arrived at 8 and hit some range balls. The starter said just take the first tee as soon as your ready. “I want to get you started before this group gets out there.” He had a large group of retirees that were in groups of 4 & 5. I actually started early, before my tee time. But it was too late. They had already sent several groups of old farts out ahead of me. Nothing worse then being sandwiched between a bunch of old brickheads playing from the women’s tees and dragging their feet on every green. I actually enjoyed the course. Great layout. I’ll probably come back sometime, but definitely not on a Thursday morning.

Best greens around!!!!!!

I promise this course has the best greens in Dallas-Fort worth guaranteed..!!!! They were perfect... they rolled like tour level greens... Now for the rest of the course the rough is ROUGH and holes 9-11 will blow a round up, so bring plenty of extra balls due to the many blind shots.. A must play for sure!!!

Hilltop course

The course has a lot of elevation. It is a challenging course that requires a golfer to use good course management. The course is in very good shape. The greens were good and rolled good, not slow and not fast. The course is well maintained. Off fairway hits can land in some very good fringe. I like the fringe around the greens because I am learning how to hit a flop shot. This course will test your skills but you can score on it

Great condition

If you tend to spray your shots around, be sure to bring plenty of balls as there is literally no room for error. It’s a very unique course with very unique holes. Lots of blind shots. Fun though!
