Old Brickyard Golf Course
About
Some argue that the tricked-up golf course has no place in today’s game, but they might change their mind after visiting the eclectic Old Brickyard. As the name implies, the course lays out in and around an old brickyard, featuring dramatic elevation changes, blind shots, and some unbelievable, almost impossible holes. This is one you’ll want to play just to say you’ve seen it.
The opening holes are pretty basic as you traverse northward before turning into the meat of the course, where the dramatic elevation changes start wreaking havoc on your club selection. After about the third or fourth hole, every hole seems to have some unique feature.
The Old Brickyard Lake comes into play on holes 9-11, some of the most difficult holes you’ll find anywhere. After you limp homeward suffering near-disasters on the tricky par 3 No. 8, which plays over water and seems to drop about 5 stories, and the demented 9th hole, which features a funky tee shot and challenging approach over water to a difficult green, No. 10 is not a welcome sight. Hole 10 plays from an elevated tee box, with water along the right. Water comes into play on the next two shots as well, since it cuts across the dogleg-right fairway. If you’re struggling, this is a double-digit hole for sure.
There’s no real break after No. 10, either. The 13th requires a precision short iron to a tiered green. More surprises await as you finish the round, so be prepared. The yard is a fun day of golf.
Getting there : Take I-45 south from Dallas to Ferris, then exit 267 and continue down the access road to the entrance on the right.

Very, Very Challenging Hole Photo submitted by fryersroost on 05/08/2013
Old Faithful
Meet a friend at the Old Brickyard yesterday for a round. Here is a quick review of it compared to other courses I haved played this spring.
Greens- Better than most I have played, a lot of courses in the DFW area are struggling with there greens due to the very low temps we had this winter. Most here were ok and rolled true.
Pace- Played easily in 4 hrs.
Bunkers- Look like they are in the process of redoing them, most had new white sand with only a handful left to go.
Fairways-On par with many area courses, good, but still with some thin areas due to poor growing conditions from to mother nature.
It was nice to see they have spent a lot of money to put new in cart paths from my last visit on several holes, spoke to someone in the shop and they plan to do more path work this summer.
I still think the OBY is one of the best value for your buck courses in the metroplex. Senior rate is $25 and you qualify at age 50. I bet of the 40+ people I saw there during my round 80% looked to be of that group.......
Not one positive about it...
Avoid. Period.
I am not a person that bashes for no reason. But there is no way I would recommend this course to anyone.
-Golf range balls - like they have been pulled out of a swamp after 10+ years.
-Greens - nothing green about this course. Most are painted.
-Fairways - see greens (except for painted)
-Water jugs - never filled (we teed off around 11:00)
-Car girl - saw her once.
-Starters/course workers - didn't have.
-Tee times - too many and too close. Unless you like waiting 10+ minutes between shots. We left after 12 holes due to all of the above.
-May have been the worst conditioned course that I have ever played. Hope this place closes from June-August as I cannot imagine it being worse.
Fun
This golf course is crazy! I’m from Florida and I’ve played a couple Texas hill country courses and this is definitely up there at the top. It was like real golf meets putt putt with the hill slopes and curves. It was so much fun. The 15-20 per hour wind made it even crazier! But it was a great experience. The greens are kinda ugly brown, but man do they roll true. I will play it again, especially if my Florida peeps are here.
Today
Early in the season but it was great. Thanks for a great round. See you next week.
Fun course
Fun day playing golf with my husband. Very hilly and curvy course. Golf carts were gas powered to assure you could get around and up the hills. Driving around the course on the golf cart was super fun! Challenging course in beautiful hill country. Will definitely go there again.
Terrible I mean terrible
This course used to be actually playable, but this last time the greens and the fairways are in such bad shape. It was like playing a cow pasture. I would highly not recommend this course to anyone.
Country golf at it's finest
If you've never played here you are missing out. The greens were fast and soft and rolled true for the most part. The fairways were a little thin but you can't beat this layout or the views. This is not the country club so if that's what your looking for stay away. Rather if you want to have a good time and stimulate your mind with the surroundings book it now. Bring extra balls for you first timers not knowing the bends and knooks and crannies will cost you, but for under $40 on the weekend best deal around...
Rehab day
Chose this course for the terrain always have lijed the layout they are making improvements as they can nee to turn sand bunkers into grass or renew
Neat Course!
First time played - 30 minute drive to get there.. I really like the layout - LOTS of elevation - great par 3 's
The 10th hole par 5 should be a par 6.. that is a beast from the gold or blue tees wrapping along the lake..
The greens were muddy and had some very rough patches which made putting extremely difficult
Yes, as with previous reviews, the cart path is quite worn in some locations and sometimes wondered if the cart would make some of the steep uphill paths.. IF management would spend some money and improve the conditions this course could be a real jewel...BUT I still loved the course and will try to play again when able..
It's a nice course but conditions sucked it was cart path only and the course was soaking wet so the ball was in water on every shot. Hopefully next the course is on better shape.
Cool Layout
Course was a lot of fun and has cool layout. However, the course needs some work and was in fair to average condition. Would have given it much higher ratings if the course was in better shape.
Could be better
The course has nice elevation changes and gives it a different feel than other courses around the metroplex. It plays short and fairly easy. The bad thing is the course management is horrible. The do not take care of the course. you can drive carts right up next to the green as i saw some people doing. the greens are patchy. I played this course several times about 15 years ago and it was in great shape. I dont know if its the same owners but its like they care about improving the course. the cart path is missing in some areas and you end up driving on gravel. you have to watch out for bumps and drop offs. If they put some money and more care into the course it could be good again,
Fun layout. Good pace. Good shape.
All in all fun day. Tee noxes need attention. Unlevel and way too hard.
Massive elevation changes
Unlike almost all other dallas area courses. Greens are solid and everything else is as expected at its price point. Not long but left or right are usually dead. Need to bring your game
Interesting layout; upkeep needs to be improved
Played the Old Brickyard over the Thanksgiving holiday. An interesting concept of creating a course within an old brick making facility. Challenging but not overly so. Few amenities, but that's no big deal; it's about the golf
However, poor fairways, weeds everywhere; greens were OK. Seems like a course in need of re-investment.
