Old Brickyard Golf Course
About
Some argue that the tricked-up golf course has no place in today’s game, but they might change their mind after visiting the eclectic Old Brickyard. As the name implies, the course lays out in and around an old brickyard, featuring dramatic elevation changes, blind shots, and some unbelievable, almost impossible holes. This is one you’ll want to play just to say you’ve seen it.
The opening holes are pretty basic as you traverse northward before turning into the meat of the course, where the dramatic elevation changes start wreaking havoc on your club selection. After about the third or fourth hole, every hole seems to have some unique feature.
The Old Brickyard Lake comes into play on holes 9-11, some of the most difficult holes you’ll find anywhere. After you limp homeward suffering near-disasters on the tricky par 3 No. 8, which plays over water and seems to drop about 5 stories, and the demented 9th hole, which features a funky tee shot and challenging approach over water to a difficult green, No. 10 is not a welcome sight. Hole 10 plays from an elevated tee box, with water along the right. Water comes into play on the next two shots as well, since it cuts across the dogleg-right fairway. If you’re struggling, this is a double-digit hole for sure.
There’s no real break after No. 10, either. The 13th requires a precision short iron to a tiered green. More surprises await as you finish the round, so be prepared. The yard is a fun day of golf.
Getting there : Take I-45 south from Dallas to Ferris, then exit 267 and continue down the access road to the entrance on the right.

Very, Very Challenging Hole Photo submitted by fryersroost on 05/08/2013
Wow!!!
Great course!! Hard course to play. Quite a challenge. So beautiful. Been in Dallas for a year playing different courses and it has been fun, but I must say I might hav found my every weekend place to play. Highly recommend!!!!
Fun to play
Really like playing here. Great layout. Greens are in good shPe and fairway good too. Enjoyed my round.
excellent golf course, everyone should book a round at this course. Lots of elevations and valleys fun to play!
Wat
The two guys that I play every week and beat with authority both played the best rounds of their lives. One finished 86 The other 85. It is a tough course but I think you will love it. Just as they did and just as I do. I gotta play again. These are 94 to 100 players. Fantastic course .
Great value!
You cannot beat the price for what you get at this course! It offers a challenge for the experienced player and is forgiving enough If you’re just starting out. The conditions of the course are excellent it is mainted well. Always a fun course to play with a group of friends. My favorite part are the par 3s!
Fun but frustrating
FUN: I have played the brickyard many times and they seem to be working hard to improve it. Greens were in fantastic shape, held good shots and rolled true. Course was extremely damp due to overwatering which made some approach shots soggy. Bunkers werent worth plaing out of. Hopefully they will be worked on in the near future. Overall, the course was challenging as always with excellent greens.
FRUSTRATING: We had to tee off 30 min after our scheduled tee time due to a six man group teeing off - please dont do this on a weekend. I am all for a round with your buddies and friendly wagers but six guys on one hole is a bit much. The gentleman running the pro shop could use a refresher in customer service.
Delightful layout
This course has it all. Interesting layout, lots of topography, challenging greens. It's a lot if fun!
Good fairways
Overall the course in pretty good shape, I was impressed with some improvements to the carpath and the clearing of some of the areas where normally the bushes are always out of control.
Fun course.
Everything was great until our cart ran out of gas on #7. Waited around for them to bring us a different cart. Then when we got to # 10 there was a group that cut in front of us and slowed the pace way down. Very disappointing. The staff did not even offer us a drink or a rain check or even an apology. Those carts running out of gas is a total lack of care. This should never happen. If it does the staff should try to make it right. They did not care. Won't be back anytime soon.
Tough Course
Overall wouldn't recommend this course. The staff was not friendly or welcoming. Course was in okay shape, one hole the grounds crew was mowing the green and did not stop or get out of the way when we approached so we just picked up and moved on. Hard course as far as blind shots and navigating.
Not what I expected
The Old Brickyard course in Ferris, Tx. is a different kind of course for north Texas.
It's very hilly with changes in elevation on every hole. I found it to be fairly challenging
but fair layout.
The two most difficult holes for me where numbers 9 and 10. Hole no. 9 is a blind
tee shot through a narrow gap. And hole no.10 is a par five with water in play on every
shot. Also 18 has a blind 2nd shot.
All in all I would recommend this course to anyone who wants to play something
different in north Texas.
Interesting, fun course - but wouldn't want to play on a regular basis
We played this course Monday on a $13 Hot Deal. Due to recent heavy rains, it was cart path only, and we certainly got our exercise! It was worth every bit of the money. Greens were in great condition, fairways were in okay condition, a little rough but very playable. Course knowledge is crucial, many blind or tricky shots, very narrow landing areas on a few holes. Thankfully, there weren't many players out that day, we had the luxury of driving ahead to see the hole before playing it. There are TONS of elevation changes. I'm not a fan of the par 5 Hole #10 - with a very narrow landing area for the ladies drive and a fairway that skirts the lake for the entire length. I'd wanted to play this course for many years, but didn't want to make the drive. We played it while returning from a weekend trip, so it was convenient - and very reasonably priced on a Monday afternoon. While we enjoyed playing the course, I would not put this on my frequent play list due to the unusual nature of the course layout.
quit after 7.5 holes
First time I've ever walked off of a golf course mid round, but the 15 minute wait at each teebox was ridiculous.
