Muni in the wind!
For a basic, municipal golf course, I was impressed with the care the course was given, especially the greens, which were superb. They were perfect, and very fast. Given the heavy play, I thought the course was in great shape. You see all ranges of golfers here, from beginners to serious guys. All enjoy the course. It has an "old feel" to it, like going back in time with Don Ross to 1948 and feeling casual and receiving a warm welcome. The only problem we encountered- 25mph winds out of the north, which seriously affected play.
Best shape ever
I have been playing this course since before the total renovation. It is in the best shape ever. Plenty of grass in fairways and the greens are great. I would give the greens a perfect if people would fix their ball marks. You will probably notice some of the sand traps have been shrunk and the sand is pure
Great condition, challenging greens
For a municipal course this is well conditioned and maintained. The greens are challenging and roll fast and true with many designed to penalize over clubbing. Playing a few times to gain some local knowledge should help in knowing where to aim in future rounds.
Pro Am
We booked a tee time unaware that a prism was scheduled for that date. We were teamed up with two young pros. We didn’t complete the round do to carts having to be back by six and the pros hitting more than one ball. We had to wait on every hole before we could tee off. Very disappointed that we were allowed to book a tee time with all the pro am activities taking place and really slowing play for other players
Excellent course
Course was being prepared for this weekend tournament and was in extremely great shape. Greens were too fast and nothing would stick. Had a good time and Martin is a good guy., can't beat a better starter.
Fair test of your game.
I like the course layout. The conditions were good, greens were great. The pace of play was not real slow even though there was a lot of players. I will go back again
Exciting course on any day
I had such a great time at this course. The pace was a bit slow but I played with a cool group of men which made the round more pleasant despite the windy day. If I’m ever down in New Smyrna again, I will certainly play here at least once.
This course is in excellent shape. We played the course when it was cold and windy. Made it much more of a challenge.
NSB Muni looking good!
Tee boxes, & fairways in good condition and greens very fast and also in great shape. Pace of play was good and we stopped into Tiano's restaurant for a drink and a slice which is always good!
A Fun Donald Ross Design
This was my go rst time to play the NSGC as a visiting vacationer to nearby Daytona Beach. There is a very friendly and accommodating staff including Amber in the pro shop, the Starter, the Marshall, everyone we encountered. It is a fun layout that is moderately challenging. The real strength of the golf course is the greens - replaced in 2016 along with the sand bunkers and they still have Donald Ross’ fingerprints on them: seamless roll-up transitions from fairways to greens, generally smaller than most other courses, fast but true, very undulated, multiple tiers on many, basins, plateaus, rolloff edges, and trouble behind the green for the overly aggressive hitters including steep drop offs, mounds, terraces, and grass bunkers. The course was busy on a drizzly Saturday afternoon in the mid-60s (which is a good indicator in itself), so the pace was moderate. I still finish in about 4 hours. Thank you, NSGC, for a very enjoyable first experience!
