Moccasin Wallow Golf Club
About
Moccasin Wallow Golf Club (previously known as Imperial Lakewoods Golf Club) is located at the intersection of I-75 and I-275 on exit 45 in Palmetto, less than a 30-minute drive from Tampa, St. Petersburg and Sarasota. The course was designed by Ted McAnlis around 200 beautiful wooded acres with 16 lakes. Improved
They have certainly improved playing conditions from a couple of years ago but still much improvement needed
Lightning fast greens
It’s winter and the grass appears dormant and brown as you travel down the fairway nuts is in good condition - then you get to the green and OMG! Greens are fantastic and lightning fast and roll true. Don’t get above the hole or you’re dead unless you get lucky and hike out. Demanding but highly enjoyable track.
Deceptively tough course
Moccasin Wallow is an interesting course. When the wind is up, this straight forward looking course becomes a handful in terms of reaching and holding iron shots into greens. The extremely quick greens are the course's great defense. You must find your golf ball below the hole to have any chance of scoring a routine two-putt. I doubt this course plays the same way twice, as variable as the wind can be, making the golf course perpetually interesting and likely unassailable.
Improved since last time
The course was in very good condition. Tee boxes, fairways and greens were in very good condition. Will definitely play again.
Better than expected
Played here 2+ years ago and it was in terrible shape. Played on 1/26/26 and it was pretty good. The Tee boxes need work...especially if you play from the blue tees. Some are very bare or have weeds as grass. Most of the white Tee boxes were OK with a couple of exceptions. The greens where very green and thick...some bare spots.... but overall very good. They were slow, but it had rained the night before. The fairways were decent. Some had very good grass, others had many dry spots...but very playable. There are zero amenities, the grill room has been closed for years. There is a new Ed's Tavern Sports bar right next to the clubhouse. There was almost no one on the course, we were a twosome and played through a foursome after 9 holes. The whole round took 2 1/2 hors.
Good shape not great but a huge improvement
Played this course a couple of years ago, it is hugely improved in condition. Greens are in very good shape, with a couple with patches being repaired, but they're on the edges, otherwise they are very good. The fairways are good to very good. The tee boxes need considerable work on some holes. The rough is very rough or missing in places, the sandtraps need attention, they don't rake them regularly. The pice on weekends is a bit too much for this course at this time, but a bit more work and it will be. It's a good track. I would play it again but not on a weekend rate.
Fun ! Narrow but fun!
Great way to end my week! The group ahead of me moved at a MUCH slower pace!
Snowbirds are back
Spoiled to live here in the warm months golf wise. Course was in great shape, greens were rolling true, pace was awful. Teed off at 1pm and raced to beat the sunset at 5:30 on a weekday. Just slow. Will be back, but after the birds are gone.
Great course in great shape.
The course is in amazing shape and is by far the best in manatee county.
Best shape in years
Greens smooth and good speed. Best conditions I’ve seen here.. must be the new irrigation system. Will be back.
Wet!
Probably want to take a pass if it is as wet as it was this weekend. Most every shot plugged and we ended up searching for balls that were on or within 5 yards of the fairway.
Not worth the $$$
My son and I played this course for the first time and were extremely disappointed with the course conditions for the $ paid. Everything was very wet and soggy, even holes that weren’t cart path only, cart paths themselves need attention and repairs. We won’t be paying to play this course again.
Great Challenge.
Love playing this course. It's challenging and it plays longer then it looks. Last time i played, it was really wet which was tough but still very fun.
I played by myself and really never stopped. Played in 2 hours. I liked the layout, . For the most part, the course was in nice shape. People were very friendly. I will play this course again for sure.
Glad to be back
It’s been over a year since I played there. I know that they were doing a lot of repairs and upgrades. I thought the fairways were in generally good condition and the greens were very nice.
$40 for golf. I’m sorry this course is not for you. To say not worth the money you obviously should find somewhere more for your liking.
