Riverside Golf Course
About
Situated along Florida's Gulf Coast, Riverside Golf Club in Ruskin is part of a peaceful retirement community. At just over 6,100 yards from the tips, the golf course is on the short side but it still offers an enjoyable round. From the back tees, the course actually presents quite a formidable test. The layout meanders along a creek before wandering across idyllic farmland and finishing along the river bluffs overlooking Hayes Bayou. The diverse terrain provides an array of scenery as well as a variety of different challenges. Water hazards come into play on several holes and there are several strategically placed bunkers lurking along the greensides, waiting to swallow errant shots. Riverside Golf Club's layout combines more difficult holes with player-friendly features, which makes it approachable for players of any skill level.

Riverside surprise
Based on previous reviews, I wasn’t expecting much
But I found a challenging track with greens that were in great shape, with lots of slope
The tee boxes could use a little work. Most of the fairways had grass although they were cut really short, which makes it tough to pitch. There were a few that were rough with dirt patches
Because there was water in play on several holes and some tight fairways, it’s a place you have to play a couple of times to know where to hit it
Previous reviews said the staff was rude and the community members complained about balls in their yards but I never encountered any of that
I will go back
River Club
We had not played in quite some time but I must tell you the excellence remains.....From the staff to the course....Will definitely be back very very soon. A bit windy but course was as usual outstanding!!!!!!!
Save your money
I’ve never given a poor review, until now. This course probably should not be open to the public. The greens were decent but thats about it. There were no hole layouts at the tee boxes, not even pictures on the scorecard! Most of the tee boxes were multiple colors and all of the yardages were wrong. The staff was not friendly. We were instructed not to step out of bounds as the property owners were apparently all pricks and if the ball was out of bounds you had to leave it lay. No drinking water anywhere on the course since COVID!
Over booked
Over booked with eight in front. Penalized for booking online.
Typically a fine course usually.
It’s just missing something
Course lacks character, it felt boring. Lots of straight dead ahead fairways, no water stations, no cart girl, and the 9th hole doesn’t even return back to clubhouse to be able to grab a drink or anything. I might be spoiled as we live in a great place for golf courses but I just thought it felt kind of boring. I’m not a great player either, but just felt like ever shot was a straight ahead line.
Decent Conditions, Super Friendly Staff, Good Value For The Money
Hadn’t played Riverside for quite a while so booked a late morning, weekday, round as a twosome. Were greeted warmly upon arrival by Reggie (inside/check-in) and Will (starter/marshall), both of whom made us feel welcome. We finished in just over three hours as course was virtually empty. Although greens were not as fast as when we played here last, overall conditions were fine. Plus, sand traps were much improved. We recommend this course and look forward to returning again soon.
Rushed
Played Riverside 4 years ago, it is much improved course wise. Pace of play was like a road race, pushed all the way around, completed the round in just a little over 3 hours.
Bad vibe
Not too friendly. Course not in great condition, trailer homes on every hole. Don’t waste your time coming here.
Staff a bit unwelcoming.
Felt profiled as hoodlums since we were a younger group in an older community. Pro-shop got upset with us when we came off the 9 because we wanted a beer. No beverage cart entire round. Tight course. Overall decent course, but staff kinda created an unwelcoming experience.
Decent but not worth it unless you get a deal
Drove an hour to play here, the place is all the way in the back of a 55 community complex. There isn't much instruction on how to get back there so that was kind of a turn off from the git go. The greens were in rough/poor condition. Dead greens, very slow. Fairways were decent but for having a 90degree rule you would think they would be in better shape. The layout is good on a few holes example like 10-12 but they are mostly super tight in between mobile homes so if you can't keep them straight be careful. The staff was great though. The pro shop was very nice & the ranger was consistently keeping an eye on everything. Pace of play wasn't an issue.
Nice Little Gem
Love playing this course for a laid back, yet not slow, yet not the most boring course layout ever. Everyone's cool here.
Great Value!
I’ve come to really like this course. Greens were aerated but very well done. Fairways mostly all in good shape. I love the small greens. Staff is as friendly as any course I’ve ever played. Just great people. Restaurant very good! Great turkey bacon wrap and fries! Nice views and atmosphere. The back nine in particular is in really nice condition! I will be a repeat customer!
Yes! Play here.
I was pleasantly surprised at this course. Very quant, the course meanders through the community and some holes you are mere yards from ob/houses but they really didn’t come into play. Lots of ponds to watch out for and get this, WHITE SAND in the beautifully manicured bunkers. Looks and plays great. The greens were ehhhhh and SLOW. They were aerated about 10 days ago so they are still healing. They were very slow and bumpy but that’s understandable. One of the par 3’s is 226, yikes. And it’s a par 71, not a 70 as listed on GolfNow. The views around the clubhouse are great, two pools, tennis, patio etc. The grill had great food options and I had a wonderful wrap with fries for $12. I’m considering joining here but would like to see them work on growing grass on the tee boxes and speed up the greens. All in all, a great round and fun to play. You won’t be disappointed.
