Bay Point Resort - Nicklaus Course
About
Bay Point Golf Club's Nicklaus Course at Sheraton Bay Point Resort is the only Nicklaus Design course in Northwest Florida. The golf course was formerly Lagoon Legend, which had a reputation for being one of the Florida Panhandle's toughest layouts. In 2004, the golf course closed and underwent a major renovation by the Nicklaus Design team. It reopened a year later with rave reviews. The redesign included restructuring the tees, greens, and bunkers and also re-contouring the fairways. The scenic landscape of scrub oaks, towering pines, and saltwater marshes was carefully preserved though. The golf course maintained the challenging aspects of the original but infused a play-ability that makes it accessible to all skill levels. Also like the former course, the new Nicklaus design offers the same stunning views of St. Andrew's Bay. In the fall of 2018, the Nicklaus Course completed a greens conversion to Tif-Eagle Bermuda-grass greens to bring championship greens to a championship course. Bay Point Golf Club has won the Panama City News Herald's "Best of Bay" in 2016, 2017, and 2018. The Nicklaus Course has hosted US Open Local qualifiers and is a home course of the FSU Women's Golf Team and will host their Division 1 Invitational in February of 2020.

Sad about the greens
I had a free round here due to the accommodations I booked at PCB. I need to say if I paid full price for this round, I would have been upset. The greens were full of bumpy, crab grass type weeds and it was very easy to get lost on this course. Thankfully I was paired with some members who helped with navigation. The bumpy weeds were on nearly every green and you would think that charging nearly $150 per person per round could fix this. Thankfully, I was playing here free. The other accommodations were great. Club house was nice and I bought some keepsakes for the road, as this was my first ever Nicklaus course. I would play here again if it was free, or cheaper than their current rates. I would not play here again at current rates unless greens are fixed.
Awesome staff. Great course
Enjoyed very much. Way above my level of play but still enjoyed the challenge. Luckily I brought extra golf balls. Again the staff could not have been nicer.
Great Course
Even thought the temp peaked out at about 100 degrees during the middle of our round we had a great time. Super friendly starter, course was in great shape somehow, despite the heat. Overall 5 out of 5 stars.
Nice course.
Course was in fair to good shape. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Lunch was excellent and our server was superior.
Heat index was over 100 degrees, so that took a little out of our game, but overall, we enjoyed it.
Vacation Golf
Staff was extremely friendly and assisted everywhere. Got a thanks for playing and enjoy your round from every team member. Cost is a little steep but in range for PCB area. Got a good surprise as they have a discounted rate for non adult golfers so my 16 year old son was much cheaper. Free range balls to get you warmed up and you’re gonna need it. The stretch of holes between 3-6 can really set you back. After that course was a little easier. So much water on this course. Water in play on almost every hole. This was my first time playing the course and probably should have used the app for hole overviews as I had some blind shots I thought would be ok only to find more water that I hit. Would be easier playing a second time. My only suggestion would be to add GPS to the carts. Distances were difficult to find using older sprinkler head markings for distance. My son used his Golf GPS app, but it did not appear to be accurate on all holes. When paying over $100 for a round, I expect GPS on carts now a days. Fairways were really nice. Rough would really swallow your ball up, so it’s difficult to find your ball in the rough many times. Greens were good but not great. Not very fast and had the occasional weeds popping up on the greens which seemed odd. Overall a good experience, but the friendly staff and service outside of the golf itself was probably the highlight of the day.
Bay Point
The course is great BUT, the beverage cart stops service at 1 and she was very rude and short with us. We were not informed of this before play. Can’t get anything to eat in the clubhouse after 3 so beware and bring plenty of drinks and food with you.
They do know how to take care of Tif eagle. Rolling about a 12.
Great Course!
Great course with a fantastic staff and friendly members. The course was in fantastic shape. Greens rolled true and the fairways were great. The staff was very helpful and the rental clubs were pretty standard.(Sim 2 game improvement irons) and available. After the round a couple members joined us for some beers on their patio. Very fun club. Definitely will be back
Great Course
Great course overall. To me it’s a little pricey but I’m cheap and don’t like spending a lot of money. Great staff and course!
Bay Point Golf
The course was good. The staff was very unfriendly and rude. The drink cart lady stops making rounds at 1pm. Hotest part of the day and they stop serving drinks and snacks on the course. The lady that finally came after we had played 9 holes was very rude, short and made it clear this was her last time around. I will never play this course again!
Nice day on the links
Played in the afternoon with reduced greens fee. Had the course to ourselves in a threesome. Course in good shape … only drawback was the tee boxes. They were pretty chewed up. Withstood one hole of a pop afternoon shower but other than that an enjoyable day on the course.
Great layout but not worth the money.
Not worth the $120 I paid. The greens had weeds and sand traps were unkept. Would not recommend.
A fun track to play
At the beginning of the round the starter warns/tells you that there's water on 16 of the 18 holes, which is true. If you hit a fairly straight ball it shouldn't be a problem.
I enjoyed the course and am looking forward to playing it again sometime.
Bay Point
The course is in very good shape. Overall a nice layout with a good mix of challenging and moderately easy holes. Greens were rolling a little slower than the last time I played the course. Very enjoyable afternoon.
Good Times
Course was in good shape and enjoyed our round. It’s not the best value deal but did not regret playing there. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Overall would recommend.
Great course
It was really fun playing and the course was a great experience
