Bay Point Resort - Nicklaus Course
About
Bay Point Golf Club's Nicklaus Course at Sheraton Bay Point Resort is the only Nicklaus Design course in Northwest Florida. The golf course was formerly Lagoon Legend, which had a reputation for being one of the Florida Panhandle's toughest layouts. In 2004, the golf course closed and underwent a major renovation by the Nicklaus Design team. It reopened a year later with rave reviews. The redesign included restructuring the tees, greens, and bunkers and also re-contouring the fairways. The scenic landscape of scrub oaks, towering pines, and saltwater marshes was carefully preserved though. The golf course maintained the challenging aspects of the original but infused a play-ability that makes it accessible to all skill levels. Also like the former course, the new Nicklaus design offers the same stunning views of St. Andrew's Bay. In the fall of 2018, the Nicklaus Course completed a greens conversion to Tif-Eagle Bermuda-grass greens to bring championship greens to a championship course. Bay Point Golf Club has won the Panama City News Herald's "Best of Bay" in 2016, 2017, and 2018. The Nicklaus Course has hosted US Open Local qualifiers and is a home course of the FSU Women's Golf Team and will host their Division 1 Invitational in February of 2020.

Bay Point Review May 2022
Great layout, very challenging course. The first 6 holes on the front 9 will challenge every aspect of your game.
My issue with this course was the condition of the course. The greens were in horrible shape, a lot of dead spots and a lot of sand on the greens. It was very difficult to get a good read on the speeds since every green, "seemed" to have different types of grass on the greens given the dead spots and the various amount of sand on each green.
Again, the course layout was fantastic, some holes had fantastic views of the bay and other things.
The staff was amazingly nice. When we got done, around 4:00 PM, the kitchen was already closed so we could not get anything to eat.
The other thing to be aware of on this course, there is no in then out. It is 18 holes straight out. So no grabbing something at the clubhouse at the turn or anything like that. Plan accordingly with drinks and or food.
The beer cart was around a lot, so that helped.
Overall, I would play this course again, if the conditions were better. I respect the fact they have had a lot of hurricanes over the last few years, but the condition could have been better.
One final note, you will never play a par 5 with teeing up with a mid-iron, then your second shot with another mid-iron. It was glorious.
Play well!
Bad shape
Course and especially the greens are in terrible shape. Not sure how they can get away with $100 tee times with the greens so bad. Surprised Nicklaus has him name attached to this one.
Bay Point Nicklaus course first timer
Gorgeous layout, very challenging course but the greens aren’t in great shape. They rolled true but there was a lot of sanded areas from hurricane damage. The staff and pro shop were amazing. They gave a big discount to a member of my group because he was a first time golfer and needed some gear. I would definitely come back and play again.
Challenging course. Green are in terrible shape. Almost hard to play on....
Not worth the money
This course used to be incredible. Greens are some of the worst I’ve ever seen now. Not worth the money.
Disappointed
I have played here several times in the past few years. The greens are awful right now. I played with a member that said they have been in this condition for several months. I love the layout and it is my favorite course in PCB but $105 for these greens is a bit of a ripoff.
Jack would be ashamed that his name is associated with this course!!
Can’t believe you actually charge full price for this place….worst condition course I’ve ever played.
Will never return…..
Course Not Up To It’s Own Standards
I love this course, except…
This time was a huge disappointment. The greens were in terrible shape and the fairways were dried out. Normally, I would accept this and move on. However, we did not get any notification of the current poor conditions. However, we still had to pay full price.
The bar/restaurant was beautiful. Fantastic food and service. Service on and off the course was great.
I hope they can get course back to their high standards. Otherwise, I may not return anytime soon.
BayPoint - Course Conditions
Good course layout, friendly and helpful staff. Fairways very close cur and dried out. Greens in poor condition. Overpriced by at least 40% based strictly on the condition of most fairways and especially the greens.
Embarrassed
Been coming to Panama Beach and playing Bay Point for 15+ years and never experienced the course in this condition. Even with the sticker shock I finally convinced my guest to go only to be totally embarrassed with the condition of the greens! It wasn’t just a seasonal aeration and sand but several totally bare areas. A warning that greens were in transition and a reduced green fee would have lessened the embarrassment.
Terrible Greens
Great staff, great layout. Tee boxes, fairways and bunkers all very good. BUT.......the greens were horrible. Some kind of disease, or bug. Every green.
With these types of conditions they should let you know in advance. They need to reduce the price per round with these conditions.
Want to play in the fall but will definitely call and ask beforehand. we don't want to travel here for this again.
Awful greens
The greens are continuously in bad shape when you’re paying a premium. It’s a shame they don’t take better care of this course given it has so much potential.
Greens not good
Played with some friends from out of town. We were unaware of the condition of the greens prior to our round. No one said a word on the condition, including the starter, as to how bad they were (fungus has destroyed them). We were charged full price. Very disappointed.
Needs help
The bones on this course are good but the playing conditions are not. The greens have weeds growing on them, although being treated. Fairways are ragged and uneven. Players should be advised prior to booking.
Greens were awful, no mention of the conditions before we paid or teed off.. Was not worth $50.00 much less the $105.00 we paid.
Poor Shape / Over Priced
This course was in poor shape for the cost of play. My group will not be back
Not what we are used to.
I have played here ,for the past four or five years, every May. Until this year I never had reason to complain and the course had been well maintained. This year however was a completely different experience and may make me change my mind on whether I come back next year or go to another course such as Holiday or Signal Hill courses. For the price of $105.00 per round, I would expect playable greens at a minimum. Most of the greens were in poor to unplayable shape. Certainly not worth what I paid. I would like a reponse to this survey.
