Marcus Pointe Golf Club
About
Marcus Pointe Golf Club tumbles across 600 acres of rolling woodlands, which is a rare occurrence in the mostly flat Panhandle area. The back nine is where golfers really begin to notice the dramatic undulations. Earl Stone, who has designed several Gulf Coast golf courses, created the layout. He has built his reputation on building playable and affordable courses. While water may not come into play often, golfers will still be kept on their toes by the numerous sand bunkers and an abundance of trees and of course, the tricky angles and elevation changes throughout. The golf course is challenging but fair with a playability that appeals to golfers of all skill levels. The greens are well manicured and keep all abilities in mind. Four sets of tees make Marcus Pointe Golf Club even more accessible.

Good course.....needs a Ranger!
Course was in good shape. Greens were VERY long - but I'm sure that's from the 15" of rain we've had down here in the last couple of weeks. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
Only complaint is a big one - WHY would any course ever let a six-some play? We breezed through the front nine in 1:20. Back 9 took right at 2:45. We sat the whole time behind a 6-some that refused to let us through. No golf ranger anywhere on the course and no drink cart to take the pain of waiting away! At a decent course, I consider this to be an unacceptable occurrence. Will still go back, but will probably just leave if they let 6 people play together again.
overall a good experience
Several greens were in need of attention, but otherwise was in good condition
Don't be fooled
First time on this course and I had read some of the previous reviews regarding greens' condition. Had been a few months since the last review so I called to check the condition. They admitted that a "few greens" still had issues but most were in good condition. Not sure what good condition means in Pensacola but not true in my book. Probably 15 of 18 greens had significant dead spots where there was no grass at all. Pins were generally in a "good area" of the green but if you were more than 20 feet from the pin you were putting through dead spots. Where there was grass in the greens it was shaggy making all putts miserably slow. The rest of the course was in good shape and the layout was pretty good. Houses line many holes but generally aren't too close. Pace of play was extremely good with an early tee time we finished in just over 3 hours.
A few greens had bare spots.
A few greens had bare spots. However, for the price it was a good deal.
This course has great features.
Course in great shape except for greens. 4 or 5 of the greens need severe help. Still, it's the best course I have played on in a while.
Course in Nice Shape but not Greens
All in all the round I played on 5/27/13 was a good experience. The course was in good condition but unfortunately it looked as though they had lost their greens. They were in very bad shape. We were told they were being aerated and they offered a discount, but it looked otherwise.
Course has charm
The back nine was closed due to repair. Airfing the greens. played front twice. Great character to the course. Greens were bumpy but playable. Rye grass is burning out to make room for the bremuda. Will be nice in 3-4 weeks. They lowered to cost by 25% were bery nice and I will come back in June
Nice layout. but the brand new greens are god awful !
Played this course often since it's opening many years ago. The one thing that was a constant complaint was the maintaining of the old bermuda greens. Was really excited when it was closed last summer to put in new greens. Have now played it about 4 times since then and they have continually gotten worse. I would suggest a soil sample being sent to U of F. Putting on sand greens back in the 20's couldn't have been worse. Very disappointed and won't return until I read or hear something about its improvement.
Naturally beautiful but needs some work
This course had a nice layout and was fairly well maintained except the greens, which were consistent in a bad way. Staff was very nice.
Decent with discounted golf, but unimpressive after remodel
This course closed down in summer of 2012 to remodel. We played right before it closed and though the greens were in rough shape, it was a pleasant experience. We were excited to return this year and saw they had reopened boasting of new greens, tee boxes, better fairways, etc on their website.
The club house had been moved to a temporary location since apparently it still is being remodeled. Poor signage finding it. Then the staff just wasn't that friendly. One guy was super rude.
The course itself seems to suffer from lack of irrigation. The fairways were smooth and fast. The greens were disappointing. It appears they think that using green-colored sand in smashed down in large quantities is a good alternative to grass. Fast greens but mainly because the surface is hardened.
And to top it off, we had to wait to play due to a couple slow groupings. Wish the starter helped facilitate play better.
Don't go in expecting a pristine golfing experience.
For being spring and a fresh remodel, I had higher expectations.
Next year we will try a different course.
The course has a great lay out and fun to play
The course is great once the get the tee boxes and green back. A lot of the tee boxes have sand covering them, because they grass has died and they are trying to get them back. The greens are almost back, there are a some that have patch repairs and sand covering them making it hard to putt. The fairways, rough, and sand traps are in great shape.
fantastic!
this course is great! and the whole staff is friendly!, Everyone who works there seems to enjoy working there, everyone smiles, greets you, and has a great attitude. They are doing some remodeling, to increase the restaurant area which has fabulous food! you cant go wrong when visiting this course!
Excellent course
The course is well maintained. The staff is very friendly. I was visiting in the area when I played and would play this course again given the opportunity.
I have played Marcul Pointe for years. It is a nice course.
I played the course in April. Understandably, a few of the greens are in transition. The staff is very friendly and are working hard to make this the best course for the money in the Pensacola area-and I have played all of them.
" CHALLENGES' MOST " "WELCOMES ALL "
Definetely can be a challenge, but is "Player Friendly". Has a Links feel , which is the case on many holes, yet a few holes run side-by-side, with plenty of Room & Mature Trees seperating those that do. Very Scenic, with rolling fairways, and "Greens" to match, which are bunkered Nicely, with "near perfect" sand that is not too Course nor Powdery. The well guarded Greens, make approach shots , maybe the Best Challenge here. A Nice Course Layout, with nice length from the "Tips", a Friendly Staff, and well maintained, makes for a Great Day, and a Good Value.
Good layout making an enjoyable experience
Enjoyed the course and the staff was extremely friendly. A few of the greens could use some work but overall greens in
good condition. I would recommend this course as a good deal and enjoyable experience.
Very friendly staff, greens were in excellent condition
Spacing of groups allowed for plenty of time to play each hole.
best layout in pensacola
very enjoyable place to play. plenty of hills, no boring holes. the greens have lots of break and follow the natural contour of the surrounding ground. similar to scenic hills, only newer.
The course has great features.
I really enjoy this course, it is challenging, while I'm enjoying the scenery around me. By this I mean the beautiful green of the lawns and trees, flowers and bushes.
Course is in fantastic shape, with "carpet like" farways and very good greens
Marcus Point has fantastic farways with very few bare spots. Incredible since it's winter. The winter rye top seeding has really worked. The greens are in good shape, though there were a few areas that were bare in some of the higher trafficed areas.
As a side note, the restaurant, called "Iron" has great food and a pretty good wine selection.
All in all a very good facility
