Not what I expected
I didn't realize this was such a short course (5000 yds). The fairways had no grass to speak of, they were mostly dried out and bare. The greens were decent. The only good thing I can say is I played the course.
A fun, family-friendly course with gorgeous views
The Abbey Course is perfect for families, especially those with kids learning to play. Tom and his staff are extremely friendly and accommodating. The greens are typically in very good condition, while the fairways are mostly field grass and rather dry. However, that adds to the fun and the challenge. There are lots of hills that provide great views and, if you are walking the course, you'll burn a lot of calories! Any negative reviews you read about The Abbey Course are from folks who apparently want caviar for the price of a filet-o-fish sandwich. Get real---if you want to play on a premier golf course, then pay the big bucks and drive about a mile east to Lake Jovita, or perhaps head to Saddlebrook . Conversely, if you want to enjoy a fun round of golf, associate with lots of fun people, and have a beer in the Tavern after the round, then The Abbey Course is for you. Besides, if I can play well here, given the condition of the fairways, then I can score very well on other courses. I fine-tune my shots on this course by properly accelerating through the field grass and sandy soil. Anybody can sweep a ball off of a plush, Bermuda-grass fairway...but only a "player" can dig it out of the dirt (much like Ben Hogan so eloquently noted). Bring your kids and enjoy a day at The Abbey Course! Cheers!~ Scotty---
The greens are good
My wife and I have played this course 3 or 4 times. The staff are very friendly. The fairways are very dry with little grass to hit off of. The cartways need a lot of work. Very bumpy. For the price, we think this is a very good value.
The Abby
This course was not very good. The greens seem to be the only thing the grounds crew are working on. The fairways are terrible. The ride in the golf cart was very uncomfortable due to the bumpy ground. The staff was very friendly. If you are looking for a cheap place to play and not concerned about conditions this course will be fine. But this course does not meet and average level. Very below average.
Hole in One
First time playing course claimed a great surprise. My wife, on Hole #4 - a Par 3 of 158 from red tees scored her first Hole-in-One. Very proud of her.
Otherwise is was an enjoyable golf day.
Value
While the fairways are generally bone dry, the greens are in good shape and the value for the dollar is good, especially for duffers like us who need to swing all the clubs. The holes offer a little bit of everything except sand, so it's a good challenge.
Disappointed
The greens are good to very good condition and the tea boxes are only fair.
I cannot describe any other part of this course. If you're wearing a T-shirt and denim shorts and flip-flops this is the course for you.
The fairways are unplayable and detract from an enjoyable round. Maybe after the next flood, some grass may grow. Fivesomes are allowed so be patient. Not worth the $12 hot deal. Never played it before and never again.
Fun
Greens were in great shape . Fairways were a little rough. It is a fun course for the money.
Good for the Price
The Abby is an inexpensive place to play golf but expect to get what you pay for. The greens were in great condition but the fairways as usual are bad. We play the 1 card rule; you can move a ball hit in the fairway 1 card length in any direction to put it on a patch of grass. As long as you don't take things to serious and are just out to enjoy the day playing golf with friends it's a great value for the money.
Not so good
They need too take. Better care of there's fair way
tight
The holes and fairways are very tight here. We had people hit balls into our fairway several times.
It was too narrow for my liking.
Much Improved Course, Dining & overall Value
Course in much better condition,... especially the greens after last treatment and seeding. A good value for 9 or 18 holes. Nice dining and restaurant service as well.
decent greens
The course was dried up and not much green grass. It had a few tight holes and most of the greens were elevated. It played short because of the bare fairways. The greens were slow but in pretty good condition. Very few sand traps on course , It needs some TLC.
GOOD DEAL FOR THE MONEY
GREENS IMPROVING A LOT GREENS IMPROVING A LOT
Any Questions
Course had been over seeded and not mowed in (12) twelve days! The PRO shop said they had advised GolfNow.THANKS GOLFNOW TEAM
small challenging greens
open course is short but the greens are small and tough. Still had a good time.
A nice day in the country
Went out with the wife for a relaxing round at The Abbey Course. Was greeted with the beautiful bells from the real Abbey. Staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. Greens were in great shape, the fairways were more like the rough on most courses. Fun layout, tranquil setting, great deal from Golf Now. We will be back.
Hot Day to Golf!
The was was very hot, but clear, blue skies. Don't forget your sunscreen. The Abbey is a great small, beginner course. For the $15, its worth every penny. My wife took me for Father's Day and enjoyed every minute. A couple of the holes dog-leg pretty tight, so your tee shot is key (#6 and #8) otherwise, you're in the woods. I will return!
