Great Course for $30
The course was a steal for $30. The carts were equipped with GPS. The Tee Boxes, Fairways, etc were in great shape. The ball sat up perfectly in the fairway. They only area of improvement were the greens. They were great sized greens just very bumpy, tons on unrepaired divots, and SLOW. Most holes felt secluded from the rest. Hodge Park is literally across the street from Shoal Creek so if you want to play 36 at two different courses, this cannot be beat.
Very enjoyabe course to play
My friends and I enjoy this course. It is in excellent shape, the staff is very friendly and the course is challenging, but not brutal. It was a very hot day, but we kept hydrated and stayed in the shade when we could.
WHY SUCH AWFUL GREENS???
Well, yet again, we are totally baffled & disappointed. Have played this course many times over the years, but had not been there for quite a while-bad exchanges with pro shop, egregiously overpriced, pace of play, to name 3 issues...but wanted to give it a try for only $22 on GolfNow. Great timing, as there was hardly anyone there for once, and once we got out on the course, we were amazed that there is EVER anyone there...there is NO excuse for this type of course-with great tee boxes, and pretty good fairways, to have the WORST greens we have set foot on in years. Not only that, but MANY areas around many greens were filled in with VERY poor patchwork looking strips of non-matching grass. I/we would LOVE to meet many of the golfers who have left glowing reviews, just to find out why they think course conditions like this are acceptable, because they are NOT! And totally baffling that this course charges over $70 (including tax) on weekends, and people are actually paying it! And yes, I know what I am talking about because I got a $170 refund from the Kapalua Bay course, as apparently they were so stunned I complained they had no idea what to do! But if you are VERY easy to please, and don't mind throwing money away, then, yes, you will be thrilled with your round at Shoal Creek...
Shoal Creek par 3 and 5s
Wonderful rolling course with multiple doglegs. 3 of the 4 par 3s are over 200 from the tips and 2 of the 3 par 5s stretch to
over 600 yards. Great course and despite 98 degree heat and humidity, in pretty good shape. Will definitely play it again.
Very nice course and a great value with GolfNow
Nice layout Pretty to see and a good challenge
Course in great condition
I had heard Shoal Creek was the best kept secret in town from friend and was not disappointed! Course was in fantastic shape. Was challanging yet a course for all levels. Staff was very friendly. I'm definitely going to make this my "go to" course!
Gorgeous, challenging, a must play course.
My daughter and I played this course for the first time. We had a very memorable experience. We were greeted with a smile and a friendly welcome. Once out on the course the first thing we noticed was how lush and thick and green the grass was there was immaculate landscaping in every direction. The greens were smooth but the only negative thing was they were spotty and blotchy but rolled nicely. The greens were challenging with some undulation. There were a variety of different looks from the Teebox. Some of the holes were wide open with very few trees, where as some other holes had narrow fairways and work tree-lined.
Overall we had a fantastic day, and plan to return again.
Shoal Creek Golf Course
Shoal Creek has an excellent layout and beautiful landscaping. The course plays well at all levels of play. The only issue can be slow play due to the amount of people wanting to play the course
One of the best layouts in KC
This is my go to course in Kansas City. Always in great shape and it's a challenging yet fair golf course. Course was in amazing shape after just playing it. Firm and fast and looked beautiful. It's 15 minutes from the airport so if you are looking for somewhere to play from out of town, this is your place
We had a blast
Course was great and worth all of our 22.00. Was challenging but scorable. Carts had GPS which helped and course was gorgeous. Our only issue was some Jr. Golf girls (beginners) started on 10 as we were making the turn and slowed is down by 30-hour. However, was great and we will play there plenty of times to come this summer.
Challenging but fair
This course has a great layout and is very well maintained. This is easily in the top 5 courses in Kansas City.
Awesome Course
This is a fun, challenging course. There are a couple of really interesting holes where you have to carry the water and there are a lot of elevation changes. Lots of sand - which was in great condition - and the greens were excellent - they rolled very true.
What Happened Here?
In the past I could count on this being a beautiful, well maintained course. Something has gone horribly wrong. Fairways did not appear to have been fertilized in forever, greens were OK at best, but collars around many of them were toast. Not up to the standards they once set for themselves.
overall variety
Truly one of the great public courses in the Kansas City area.
This course is challenging; especially in windy spring conditions.
I thought Shoal Creek was a great track that was in great shape for this time of year. It was a very blustery day (20-30 mph winds), so scoring was tough. I would love to come back when there are better conditions. Finally, for those that only plan on playing here once it can be tough because of the all the blind tee shots required.
Shoal Creek
This course is extremely challenging and with the high winds it was very difficult. I would recommend it to only better golfers.
Cool Layout, Fun Track
Took advantage of an afternoon of excellent weather to go walk 18 at Shoal Creek. I can say that I was thoroughly impressed with nearly every aspect of this course.
To start, the layout is excellent. Mixing short, narrow holes with long, wide ones makes this course a true test of all aspects of your game. Shoal Creek also gives a nice mixture of tree lined holes and more open, plains style holes.
The conditions were about as good as can be expected during this time of year. Everything was a bit soggy, but it didn't take away from the quality of play. The one drawback that I have about the conditions was that the greens seemed to be cut to inconsistent lengths on a few holes, but that was just a very slight takeaway.
Overall, I was very impressed with Shoal Creek. The excellent overall layout mixed with the wonderful conditions (and great weather) made for a great afternoon.
January golf
Great shape after some winter weather . Tee area were a little frozen still but workable , I'm not complaining ......... I expect that in January rounds of golf.
Best Place to play North of KCMO
The course is always in great shape; mid season or end of the season. The staff is always on top of things there; they appreciate your business. Highly recommend the drive and the time to play Shoal Creek.
Shoal Creek
If you want to play a tough course then Shoal Creek is for you. Loved playing here. Will definitely go back again and again.
