Makani a Must
The higher elevation course is about 5 to 10 degrees cooler than the Waikoloa coast.
I enjoy 1/3 of the holes having a higher elevated box. Scenery and wild life makes your round relaxing. Pace of play at 11 pm on Monday was excellent.
No beverage cart service on course but you can buy beverages in the club house. Golf carts fairly new but no GPS in carts.
Greens were a little fast. Fairways in good condition. Only drawback is that it is a 30 minute drive from Waikoloa resort area. I believe it is worth the drive. Every time on the Big Island I play this course, Kona Country Club and Waikoloa Beach/Lakes courses for best value. Mauna Kea another favorite along with Hapuna which are $$$
Great layout
Few jokes with dogleg punishing winds end of round on island home and 18
Excellent course!
The 17th hole is a killer! Challenging but fun course, and the people there were great to work with. We came back 2 more times that week!
Threadbare fairways
The fairways are in very bad condition. Many times, you'll be hitting off hardpan as there are bare spots---lots of them---through out the course.
Fantastic course
Very challenging yet satisfying to play! Course conditions were excellent- well kept
Beautiful scenic country course
First time playing at Makani. Previously we usually play at the various resort seaside courses. Makani is more inland and a little drive from Waikaloa Beach. The course is very Big Island scenic. Many fairways are undulating and challenging. Lots of tee box choices so it’s playable by most different levels of skill. Would definitely come back to play on our next visit to Kona.
Good Day Golfing
The course is nice and value for the money. The carts are great, have ball washers and coolers on them -- water is provided at the outset.
The staff were very friendly and accommodating.
Only thing to note -- there is no restaurant at the course, only snacks and sandwiches available. But this is a minor concern.
Overall, a good day of golf in Hawaii!!
Like this course but not a fan of playing behind a fivesome
Course in pretty good shape, fairways could use some more watering on several holes. No marshal 🙁
Played behind a slow fivesome so didn’t finish round had to skip some holes to get home for dinner.
It’s always a fun course
I really enjoy the course and I played it for many years even tried to get on the island on the 17th hole and made it three times
Makani 2 May 25
Another very enjoyable round of golf. It’s my favorite course on the big island.
