The course is beautiful but could use a little clean up care on some holes

Course is pretty and has some interesting holes. Number 17 island green and challenging finishing hole. Clubhouse amenities are pretty sparse. A good alternative to the expensive resort courses.

Course needs some attention. For the price you would expect better conditions. Tee boxes very dry but ok because you are using a tee but fairways harder to shoot off straw like grass. Very busy and no organization of groups. So many twosomes that should be paired up to increase pace which was brutally slow. No bathroom mid way on front 9 which is tough as u need to be drinking lots of water. Says no outside food or drink but there isn't anything I could see available for purchase. On the rustic end of the scale. But lots of challenge and nice views. I wouldn’t not recommend it to anyone but with a caveat of what to expect.

Needs water and some TLC

The course was in terrible shape with rutted fairways and unmowed greens. They've had lots of rain and can't keep up but even so, it was just terrible. Sad because the layout is interesting and fun to play but no longer. I heard there are new owners; maybe that we'll help but for now don't waste your time or money.

The greens are nice but fairways are hard and dry.

In Jan of 2025, I came to the big island and played just about every course that I could get access to. HIlo, Mauna Kea, Mauna Lani, (north and south) the volcano course, Hapuna, etc.

The Makani course is the only one that I would not play again. The drought has not only turned most of the fairways from green to beige, but more importantly, most of the course now plays VERY fast because it is so hard.

If you are really good, and know how to play such a course, knock yourself out, but aside from the oh-so-cool 17 and 18 signature holes, playing a course like this is just too frustrating, given so many other good options in the vicinity.
