Great Layout
The course has a wonderful layout Greens very good Fairways very poor Still a great day
Makani
The greens are nice but fairways are hard and dry.
Wait til drought has passed
In Jan of 2025, I came to the big island and played just about every course that I could get access to. HIlo, Mauna Kea, Mauna Lani, (north and south) the volcano course, Hapuna, etc.
The Makani course is the only one that I would not play again. The drought has not only turned most of the fairways from green to beige, but more importantly, most of the course now plays VERY fast because it is so hard.
If you are really good, and know how to play such a course, knock yourself out, but aside from the oh-so-cool 17 and 18 signature holes, playing a course like this is just too frustrating, given so many other good options in the vicinity.
Golf on the Big Island
We had a great round of golf, the course was in excellent condition. The staff were awesome. Would definitely play again
We had fun!
First time here but we’ll be back - course was a little dry due to lack of rain/irrigation but I’ve played worse. Good layout - greens are challenging read- sand traps definitely need some love. Overall I enjoyed my day! Oh - buy your beer and a sandwich in the pro shop before you start because there is no half way house and you don’t get back near the clubhouse until after the 11 hole and that kinda slows down play on the back.
Fun, challenging course
We had fun playing this course. There were many unique and challenging holes, especially the 17th island green. The course offered a few distant views of the ocean and coastline. Conditions were dry and fast; however, the greens still rolled slower than anticipated, especially uphill putts. Super friendly staff, and the course was not busy at all.
Very enjoyed
Very enjoy golf course,I played it three times in a row in one week.
