Makani Golf Club

This course has deteriorated considerable since my last round here. In addition our round was over 5 hours as there was no marshaling slow play.

Nice Perry Dye layout. The staff is friendly. It needs better directional signs between the holes. The rough and fairways need to be cut.

This is a great deal for Hawaiian golf. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The course is tough but fair. It needs better direction signs between holes. The rough needed a haircut and the fairways a shave. Both were shaggy. I would plays this again.

It’s a fun course to play and, at 2000 feet, was 10 degrees cooler than other courses on the water. Animals all over the place. The fairways were a little rough in areas, but the greens were in pretty good shape..

The proshop is in a tent.

Challenging but playable. My favorite course on big Island. Great variety of shots.

This course has some challenging and interesting holes. Lots of beautiful trees and plants. I believe the average course conditions reflect the drought they are experiencing and the fact this no longer a private course. That said, the course was not in bad shape, but definitely short of excellent. Plenty of trouble, and some different, but fair, holes. Lots of birds, wild turkeys, and even goats nearby on one hole. I enjoyed playing this course. The people at the course could not be nicer. They had a nice selection of clothes and hats in the pro shop.

This course is up on the ridge at about 2000 ft, looking down to the west coast of the Big Island. Every hole is different. Due to ongoing dry conditions, the rough especially has many dry spots and therefore bad lies. But the fairways are in good shape and the greens in excellent condition. The staff is especially friendly and helpful. There is a cooler in the pro shop with some beer, sodas and some sandwiches and granola bars, but that's it. So, friendly people, great weather and a well maintained course with imaginative holes. What's not to like?

On vacation, you want to hit your longest drives, approach large greens from everywhere, hole out putts without triple breaks, and do all of this without a house anywhere in sight for miles. Expect to make a birdie or two at this course because it's all right there in front of you, no tricks. The grass was sparse in areas due to summer heat, but, kudos to the course for saving water. I love this place, and you will too.
