Makani Golf Club

Hard packed dry fairways, bunkers that haven’t seen a rake in days, dirty and damaged rental clubs, no amenities and marginally friendly staff.

Loved the layout and the greens were decent, would truly enjoy it if they put a bit of love into it.

Makati is a great layout and a good test of golf. Greens were hard and fast. The fairways were bare and hard. Whole course needs water. Great staff.

I really love this course. We come every December to play golf on the Big Island and this is always a mainstay. Much cheaper than the resort courses and it's a great course. Wide variety of holes and views. The course is a bit dry in some places but the greens are good the course is very playable. There are wild turkeys and lots of birds!

Love the course, routing, shot requirements, and views are great. However, 3 to 4 weeks with no rain results in a very brown course that looks/ plays like there is very little grass on the fairways. I will still play the course again.

Nice course . Lovely views . A little pricey but better than resorts .

Had an opportunity to play Makani.

Arrived at the pro shop which was modest at best but we were greated by friendly staff and welcomed as valued guests. They got us out a bit early and the starter was very friendly.

Once on the course, the views were spectacular. The course layout and the holes are well designed. Recent lack of rain resulted in firm fairways and the greens were in great shape - very challenging! Pace of play was excellent.

Knowing where to hit and to miss is critical and as I do plan on playing this course again, I would play it more strategically to score better. All in all... don't pass up an opportunity to play Makani! The short drive out from Kona is also a big bonus.

This course is absolutely beautiful. Lots of wildlife and has a laid back feeling. I would highly recommend playing this course before playing any resort ones.

We have played this course before and been happy. the greens are in very good shape but The tees and fairways are very dry and most of the time you’re not hitting off of grass but very hard dirt. Not sure if they have sprinklers on the fairways, but if they do, they should be using them more and there has been a dry spell. Play was very slow and they didn’t seem to be a Marshall monitoring play. y there really should be someone to encourage people who are drinking and taking their time playing golf.

Really enjoy playing this course, layout, variety of shots, views etc. Greens in good condition. Only problem was there has been basically no rain for almost a month and the course shows it. That being said, I’m definitely going to be playing it multiple times on this trip.

We play this course every time we visit Island of Hawaii but this year I noticed course is lot drier than usual conditions

Awesome views, great layout, tough but fair greens..

Fairways a little hard from lack of rain but certainly playa ble. Staff very friendly. Last two holes are a challege....an island green par 3 and full fairway water hazard par 4 finisher.

Will play this course again!.
