Loved it!
Challenging but fair. Fairways and greens are amazingly great. Some great risk reward holes. Came down early from Ocala for my sons golf tournament and played Deer Run will definitely be back to play again. Clubhouse and Staff were friendly and accommodating.
Good Value
Deer Run is a good value on a hot deal. The course conditions are good tee to green. The difficulty is in the way the fairways are cut. The layout isn't thrilling, but placement off of the tee is key. If you close play it. The staff is wonderful. If there is one complaint, it is the maintenance crew is not considerate of players while doing their job. It only takes a couple minutes to allow the group to play through.
What's not to like?
Wonderful conditions and price via TerOff, Kay is always so polite and helpful.
Wonderful day!
This course has the most friendly staff of any i have played. Very helpful and made me feel like a family friend. Course conditions were excellent and shots reacted as expected. Played both 18 hole layouts and both are wonderful.
Course to ourselves-kinda.
Deer was closed for aeration. Turtle had been done 3 weeks earlier. I was pleasantly surprised that the greens were quite nice. They were slower because of all the rain, but like with most of golf-make the adjustment if you can. I enjoy all about the Sun-N-Lake offerings. The only suggestion that I feel would really improve the experience would be more information (distances)on holes that have doglegs, creeks/ponds, blind shots etc. Not everyone that plays there, are regulars that know what to expect. There is a Par 5 on the back 9(#14) as an example. You can see water from white tee box on rt. but you can't see water in front of you but the very tiny image on scorecard tells you it is there. OK, how far to water? Fairways slope down to water, my rangefinder can't pick up any distances because there isn't anything to bounce off. If you don't have that feature/info on your Golfcart GPS, or on the scorecard you will be guessing. Golf is hard enough-just sayin.
Great Course!
Longer course than Turtle Run but not quite as tough course layout and it is in great shape.
Great track
Really enjoy playing Sun n Lakes. Played the Deer Run 18 and course was in good condition with excellent pace of play. Will play again

Booked Deer,,,given turtle
Booked Deer ,a week in advance. ... Requested Deer, upon arrival and paying they moved me to turtle, ( a much inferior Course....stopped me on first tee off Deer... telling me l had booked Turtle... Deceptive...
I know cause l had guests which l wanted to treat to Deer...which is WHY l requested it ... Much nicer condition course... Reviewed bookings they had starter change original booking,( or she lied) not sure which... Either way felt cheated,as l requested Deer for my quests which l was entertaining... Very disappointed ☹️.... Make sure you get Deer,if requested, starter was NOT NICE, knowing full well l was entertaining, a group, when l told him l booked Deer ,he told me l could request my money back.knowingbthat wasn't an option.girl @ register told me management would call me.... They NEVER did!
Great course!
Awesome course, I have paid much more for much less! Very well kept facility and friendly helpful staff. Highly recommend.
Great Value for the Price
This is not a 5 star course, but it can’t be beat for the price. The course is wide open and very easy scoring. It’s a very old style layout, lacking in visual greatness. Greens have some subtle late breaks, I had a couple putts lip out. Greens in great shape and rolling about 9-10, so not fast, not to slow either. Everything else is in good but not amazing shape. There is NO complaints about visiting here. Staff was great. Food was great and very reasonably priced. We did not get to the range, but was available. I would recommend if you are in the area and want to have a good day scoring.
Worth the extra miles
We played the turtle run course and loved it so much that we booked the Deer run course 3 days later. Both courses were an excellent shape and the price was ridiculous for the value. We will definitely be playing again.
We actually played Turtle Run...
We started playing Turtle Run because of a Juniors Tournament on the Deer Run Course. Then, it started to pour and I lost my 5 iron into the pond between #5's green and #6's tee box, when it flew out of my wet hands, teeing off on #6. Was unable to retrieve it as it was just out of reach, in the middle of the pond. We could see the end of the handle sticking out of the water, about an inch. But, when I came back from the cart barn with some rope, it was gone. Hope to retrieve it before too long.
Great course
Pace of play was excellent. The staff was from and professional as always.
Turtle run
Friendly staff. Nice practice area and challenging course. Greens need a little work but it is dry season
Awesome
My buddy and I drove 2.5hrs from the north side of Tampa to come and play Turtle Run. From the moment we stepped in the golf shop, the experience was top notch. Kay from the golf shop even escorted us to the first tee since it was our first time there. It only got better from there. The starter was very friendly and helpful. We saw the bev cart about 5 times, granted it wasnt a very busy day. The course itself was an awesome layout and provided a good challenge. We played the back tees at just shy of 6400yds. Generous landing areas off the tee combined with smallish greens that have subtle breaks and great undulation, not very common here in florida. I can not say how impressed i was, and being in the golf industry as a DOI, i can honestly say that the service and experience created by the staff/course was well worth the 2.5hr drive. Oh, not to mention that course was probably worth $75-$100 a round and for $48 its an absolute steal. I can not wait to come back and play Deer Run. Thank you guys for an awesome day!
