this course has some good things to offer
I play Swenson about 2-4 times a yr, the course was in good condition for the most part the fairways are open but this course has sooo many trees along the fariways any shot not in the fairway will punish u. the greens are big dry and FAST. pace of play is my real issue with swenson.
Fun course
Fun for all levels of players. Can be challenging in the wind. 4 hours to play. Economical price to play
Charged Again at Course
The Starter (Patty) was so persistent in trying to get another rider on my cart that she charged me $25 saying I did not pre-pay thru Golf Now! This isn't my first time encountering problems with this individual. A couple of years back I had to report her manager to Stockton City Officials and got them to apologize for falsely accusing me of leaving an alcohol bottle in the cart when in fact having a witness saw as I removed that bottle from a fairway which was littered by some other golfer. This is a neighborhood course which I enjoy playing but certain staff members in my opinion aren't to thrilled about people of color:-(!!!
Good shape course
Greens needed to be cut and rolled..course in good shape overall!
=-(
I use to enjoy this course but it's really gone downhill. From tee box, to fairways to greens it seemed to be lacking in maintenance. Couldn't hear the starter and there was confusion at the 1st. tee. Everybody asking everybody what their tee time was to see who was up. No marshals on this course anymore and play was painfully slow the front nine. Tire ruts and squirrel holes galore.
I hope this course can turn around and be worthy again... =-(
5 somes?
Pace was to slow with no marshal in site to regulate. There were 5 somes and 6 somes going on in front and behind me that day. Paid for the cart rate but not enough carts available. To far to travel to get frustrated golf is tough enough. The guy working there was nice enough gave me the range balls in lieu of not having a cart. Range was also inadequate.
Course was a mess
Out twosome was paired with another two some. Even so, we LOST several balls in the fairway as they just mushed into the grass. The course was very wet and they probably should not have allowed carts on it as there were grooves all over the fairways from the carts with the wet fairways. The wind was blowing, but the even with the sun out and pretty, the course suffered, as did our scores. We have played here before, and enjoyed the course, but this round was bad. I am sure with some drying out, it will return to playable. The course plays long and with the conditions, it played very long. We will go back, but not for several months and give it some time. Bunkers were very poor, just mud.
Speed and conditions
The conditions and pace if play was super slow and it cost me 7.95 to book the time though golf now so that was a waist
Considering early December, remarkably great condition
Given that we played the course on the first cold day of a winter snap, we were very impressed with the condition of the course. Not that the fairways were pristine -- the absence of rain and an extended season certainly has taken its toll in places -- but the greens were outstanding.
We've been talking about playing the course for a long time, and we'll definitely be back!
An Incredible WASTE OF MONEY !!!! Dont waste yours !!!!
IM born and raised in Stockton and Im embarrassed to say that im from this city !! This golf course is just as expected of a city course from STOCKTON...... A WASTE of Money ! The fairways are muddy , sand traps are not even sand , Tee boxes have crabgrass and dead spots all over ......Your penalized for hitting the ball in the fairway , better off in the rough... GOPHER HOLES GALORE !!!!! I will NEVER play at SWENSON again !!!!!!!!!!
BUSIEST DAY OF THE YEAR!
They were so busy we had to wait for a cart, BUT they comp'd us a bucket of balls to use during the 1/2 hr. wait. Then the other two who were supposed to go with us didn't show up so we went out as a two-some following hundreds of four-somes...despite that, it was a fairly decent pace. The course is REALLY pretty and we got to see a fox up close and personal when it was almost dark and we circled around to get a couple holes in behind us instead of waiting for the groups in front of us. WOW.
Sneaky Trees
This is a fun and challenging course. The course has very little water hazards and very few bunkers really come into play. So, what makes this course interesting to play. First, almost all fairways are solidly lined with very tall mature trees. Absolute accuracy is required off the tee and is the key to shooting a low score. Wayward shots off the tee on either side of the fairway will end up into the trees; punching back out onto the fairway is the safest play if not the only play. The greens appear to be level, but many have little ridges that promote misdirection. My only complaint is the restaurant closes at 4PM which, in my opinion, is too early since the noon golfers are just coming off the course approximately 4:15PM.
this course is great for the price
This course has a nice lay out along with a decent 9 hole par 3 course.
Well maintained and great prices
This course is very well maintained. It's a long course for ladies, playing 6037 yards from the red tees which makes it challenging. Most holes are fairly straight so you just have to hit long.
The course has great greens, well maintained
A bit bumpy on the out skirts of the fairway, too many squirrel holes.
Great rate/pace of play
Enjoyed playing Swenson Park. It was the first time I have played it and the conditions were good and the pace of play was great. It appeared to be mostly twosomes on the course which was a little strange but there was virtually no waiting to hit each shot. I went on as a single and was partnered with a great young guy named Robert and we had a good time. If we had to wait to hit a shot it was only for a minute and we played the round (on a Friday afternoon) in slightly less than 4 hours. Some of the areas off of the fairway are pretty dry and the ball really took off on them but otherwise no complaints about the course. The lady in the Pro Shop was super friendly. Would play again.
Good not great
I saw this had a 4 rating and was hopeful since it was my first time there. It was good, but not better than other courses in the area like Micke Grove, Manteca, or La Contenta. I would play here again but only on a good deal.
great day
The fairways are near perfect and lush with green. Loved the green but had just been watered so a bit slow in spots. Cart was clean and comfortable. Will play there again soon.
fun course to play.
I play at this course about two times a month and it's a lot of fun, but the squirrels and the geese are making the greens and fairways a big problem, the geese with their droppings and the squirrels with holes all over.
Great value and well-maintained
This is my first time playing this course. For $30 with a cart on a weekend for 18 holes, you can't beat that price. That's just for starters. The course is well designed. Unlike other courses where par 3s are short, par 4s are moderately long, and par 5s are really long, this course, is quite the opposite: each hole is moderately long. Factor in the tree-lined fairwways and tons of squirrel holes and you got yourself a challenge. The course is well-maintained from the tee box to the green. I did not find a wet or dry spot along the way. I finished my round in just over 4 hours and i think that is an excellent pace. The course is flat and very much walkable, which can bring down the green fees even more. The course is easily accesible from the freeway. i had fun at this course and I highly recommend it.
Swenson has been under Kempersports management for almost three years. The city is not entirely to blame.
