Cowan Creek Golf Course
About
Cowan Creek Golf Course is the newest of three courses that are part of Del Webb's Sun City retirement community. Cowan Creek has a resort-style layout with a front nine that plays through the community, with the homes set well back from the fairways, and a back nine that stretches across the scenic Hill Country landscape. The back nine is slightly tougher than the front. Although the golf course is wide-open there are some mesquite trees and cacti that add some scenery throughout. The layout features large landing areas, forgiving fairways, and there are few tricks and hazards, all of which make it an approachable course for beginners. There are some challenges though that will appeal to more experienced players including a few blind shots, elevated greens and tees, and some forced carries. Throughout Cowan Creek Golf Course, golfers will find some interesting risk-reward opportunities.

I can't wait to play this course again
This was one of the best surprises I've had related to golf. Almost as good as chipping into the cup from off the fringe for eagle. It's just a really friendly venue offering terrific value in an awesome setting. I will definitely be back.
very nice course - hill country golf
each hole was hidden from the rest of the holes; very challenging layout; fast round since the course is in a senior living area
great track, lot's of variety, well maintained!
If you don't mind the drive - Sun City is a little golf nirvana, some great tracks (this one especially) at a great value.
Excellent Layout and Value - Not Much Service!
My wife and I are above-average golfers (we both shoot in the 80's), and we considered Cowan Creek to be a fun and moderately well-conditioned golf course, with a number of nice design challenges - it was easy to keep your ball in play, even with no course knowledge. We played on a scorchingly hot Sunday afternoon in early July, and consequently there weren't many other groups on the course, so pace of play was more than acceptable. Range balls were included with the green fee, and the practice facilities were adequate. Negatives: 1) the fairway was cut too short, and were very firm - it was somewhat difficult to hit from, particularly with fairway metals; 2) no beverage cart service, and no snack bar in the pro shop - all they had were vending machines, which were sold out of everything. 3) The pro shop is minimal, and the staff was not particularly friendly or helpful.
However, we would definitely play there again, but we're bringing our own ice and beverages next time. It was a bargain at $36.00 each through GolfNow, and would consider it a four-star golf course, but are deducting a star for the lack of service.
Great value!
Cowan Creek is a great course that plays as easy or difficult as you need. 5 sets of tees allow you to play as short or long as you need. Course is maintained very well.
Great course; enjoyable to play.
Very nice course, well maintained, both greens and fairways. Nice pace too - was mid afternoon and not crowded, got around in just under 3 1/2 hours ( I was playing as a single). Will play again.
Course was in excellent condition
The course has a hilly terrain with rocky creeks interspersed. The fairways and greens are all in great shape.
Great course. Nice greens. Good price
Best value in north Austin. Very comparable to Avery ranch
Nice course run by angry old guys
Course was in good condition with a good mix of water and sand hazards. If you miss the fairways you might as well drop right away and save yourself the trouble of wading through the knee high grass. The guy behind the counter in the pro shop was no help at all and rude when we asked where we pick up the rental carts. I wouldn't pay the full fee to play there but with the discount it was worth it.
Great course.
I have played this course a few times and have found it challenging playing from different tees. My wife is a beginning golfer and the ladies tees offer her enough of a break to make playing the course fun.
Great Deal
The course had just had tons of rain so it was cart path only... The fairways were soaked which made it hard at times. But it looked to be in very good shape. I squeezed in 18 holes in 2.5 hours when starting at 5pm on a thursday. Cant beat that. The greens rolled very well.
Worth the drive
I live in Austin and decided to try this course out. It was definitely worth the drive. The greens are still a little bumpy but I expect the will be rolling great in a week or so. Large greens and fairly open.
Course layout
Course has a good layout. The par 3s have various lengths that will require the use of all aspects of your game. Greens are rather large and undulating. Course is open and allows for the occasional mishits. Distance on Par4s & 5s vary and will test every club in your bag.
Can you say blind shots
Only course I have seen with a red light/ green light system on several holes to protect you from someone hitting into you while you are in one of several valleys. Plenty of deer and even a turkey in this hill country course. A part of Sun City retirement community and definitely a members course where local knowledge is worth 4or 5 strokes. We played Sunday afternoon and it was packed. It is the best of the three courses offered there and can be a great value if tee times are available. I would play again.
Varied Holes
Little bit of everything. Elevation changes, doglegs, lakes and creeks, bunkers, large greens and wide fairways. Greens held nicely but had been punched recently. Traps were well maintained with proper amount of sand. Fun course that keeps your interest. Fill the ice chest with water as there are few supplies on the course and cart girl was not out and about. Definitely will play again.
A nice course with a good layout.
Cowan Creek is one of the trilogy of courses at Sun City in Georgetown, Tx. It is the newest course of three and is a pleasure to play. Most of the holes on this course have wide fairways and encourage you to let 'r rip! Greens are well-maintained and of good size with putts rolling true. In my opinion, there is not an "unfair" green on the course. The fairway bunkers and sand traps near the greens are kept in great shape. Be aware that the pace of play can be a bit slow on the weekend. My oldest son can drive the heck out of the ball and absolutely loves this course. Note that there is no food nor drink service for the non-member players. Carts are good but not equipped with GPS so bring your own range finder. Good practice range and putting green for warmup before the round, and the range balls are included with the green fee. Also, golf tees are free and plentiful so help yourself to some tees in the pro shop. Pro shop is very small and not geared for serious merchandise sales. Overall, thIs is a good value for your money.
Needs water - or something else
Fairways were very tight and a bit sparse - like they were all mowed too short & needed more water. Greens were too bumpy and the surface was not at all consistent so putts tended to bounce too much and sometimes went offline when the putts slowed down. Bunkers were good. I paid on the cheap using a GolfNow HOT DEAL so I got my money's worth - but I probably won't go back.
This course is the best of the Sun City courses
HAve played this course more than a dozen times. Coming out of winter, course is in transition. Greens have been punched recently. Fairways are begining to green. Last summer course was in great shape, greens fairly speedy.
