Cowan Creek Golf Course
About
Cowan Creek Golf Course is the newest of three courses that are part of Del Webb's Sun City retirement community. Cowan Creek has a resort-style layout with a front nine that plays through the community, with the homes set well back from the fairways, and a back nine that stretches across the scenic Hill Country landscape. The back nine is slightly tougher than the front. Although the golf course is wide-open there are some mesquite trees and cacti that add some scenery throughout. The layout features large landing areas, forgiving fairways, and there are few tricks and hazards, all of which make it an approachable course for beginners. There are some challenges though that will appeal to more experienced players including a few blind shots, elevated greens and tees, and some forced carries. Throughout Cowan Creek Golf Course, golfers will find some interesting risk-reward opportunities.

Great for the ego!
This course has plenty to offer but does not over penalize for a poor shot. Hole #14 is an all our whimp-out hole... Reachable par 4. Easiest place to pick up a birdie is on #9....
Overall not bad, but no food are beverages available.
Typical Sun City Golf
The experience when I play any of the three Sun City courses is the same. I'll sum it up by saying the three Sun City courses are great golf courses, nice layouts and always in perfect condition.....that's the good news. The bad news is that the service and staff at all three courses is the worst in the Austin area. The golf shop staffs are always grumpy and treat non-members like they are a nuisance. Most of the members on the course are just grumpy old men and women. It's a shame such nice courses cannot see the value of good customer service to all clientele.
Great Course / Terrible Service
Having played the "Sun City" courses in Georgetown many times, I've finally decided to comment on the dismal service I've continually experienced. These courses include: Cowan Creek GC, Legacy Hills GC and White Wing GC. All three courses are located in the retirement community of "Sun City", about 45 minutes north of Austin. While course conditions are some of the best in the Austin area, the staff friendliness is absolutely the worst. Add to that the lack of food and beverage service and the achingly slow pace of play and you can see where a good course can go so bad. On one occasion, I arrived 30 minutes prior to my tee time and was told "you're late". Really? 30 minutes BEFORE a tee time is too late? Most recently I booked a foursome and the pro shop attendant made all four of us feel as though we were a nuisance to the course. The general attitude from the retiree members is much the same. You get the feeling that you just don't belong and are not wanted.
They want your money, but would much prefer if you just donated it rather than bother playing a round of golf that you paid for. This is unfortunate; with proper service, these courses would be a fantastic places to play.
Always a great round here
Good pace of play even during a tournament. The course is pretty well maintained year round; there are a couple holes where you can go for the green off the tee box on a par 4, which is always fun when you are playing with your friends.
If you are playing any time from 245 on count on only getting in 9 holes.
Patrons won't let a single play through very slow pace of play
worth the trip
this was my first time at cowan creek, and i really enjoyed it. i have played white wing a couple times, but cowan is a very different animal. it's much more challenging and is a really fun layout. lots of variety in length and layout of the holes. it gives you the opportunity to hit multiple types of shots off the tee instead of just banging driver on every hole.
course was in solid condition even after a pretty good rain the night before i played.
only downside was the pace of play was a little slow, especially considering the course was not at all crowded.
no matter, considering the quality of course cowan creek is a great deal and well worth the trip out there.
Great course. Wide fairways but challenge holes.
I love this course. I almost always beat my handicap, although it is long and challenge to play. Wide fairways make it risk with your driver and save you for bad second shots. Well designed and very interesting to play. I recommend it very much.
Nice course, good value for the money
I really like this track, it has terrain changes, blind tee shots, drivable par 4's, reachable in two par 5's, extremely well maintained greens, a downhill par 3 with a 90 foot drop, just about everything. I have played this course probably 20-30 times and it always is interesting, wind makes it even more challenging.
My only complaint is that they do not have a beverage cart on the course. They have items in the clubhouse, but the time from the 9th green to clubhouse and back down to the 10th tee will make you lose your spot on the course if they are busy.
Nice layout, none of the holes were extremely difficult.
Would play this course again. Nice challenge, pace of play was standard.
Golf Course was in excellent condition.
Recent rains made the greens a little slower then what I am used to, but this enabled a few more putts to go in the hole. The course from tee to greens was in excellent condition. Really enjoyed myself and will look forward to coming back and playing here again.
Nice course.
Fairways & greens in excellent shape - well maintained. Not extremely difficult so works well with variety of skill levels. Greens were medium speed - could have been a little faster.
Worth the drive into Georgetown
I used to play here when I lived in Georgetown, but haven't played in the last year and a half since moving to Austin. The course was in the best condition I've ever seen it in. Greens are perfect, fairways are great, bunkers in excellent condition. The only issue was there are quite a few areas that were ground under repair, but at least they were properly marked. I was concerned that it would take forever because we got in behind a tournament but we played in less than 4 hours.
course is in good shape and good value
this is one of our favorite courses in the area due to always in good shape and reasonably priced
Very nice course.
Should have told us that they just verticut the greens before accepting our $.....
Good Bang for the Buck
Excellent price for this retirement community. Course was in great shape and is challenging. Bring your fruit with you. No snack bar at this course but there is at the other Sun City, Texas courses.
Cowan Creek -- Sun City -- Georgetown, TX
Of the three Sun City courses, Cowan Creek presents the most playable layout, while still providing ample challenge. Greens are large and some are tiered, but most of them will hold your approach shot and will not punish you for being away from the pin, as long as you can lag it close. Generally well-kept. Distance markers are on sprinkler heads; colored markers at 100, 150, (and sometimes 200 and 250) yards. Be sure you've had plenty of food before you check in, because there's no snack bar, no halfway house, no nothin'. I'm not even sure they have a beverage and snack cart, although there's at least one vending machine; they're fairly generous on placement of water coolers. Highly recommended. P.S. Watch the wind.
The course was in great shape
The gentleman in the pro shop was friendly and very helpful. The course was in great shape. The fairways have healed from recent aeration. The greens were very smooth and fairly fast. The course has some very challenging par fours and the par threes were fun to play with the elevation changes. The par fives were really fun and playing from the gold tees the holes in general played long. It's a good challenge but very fun to play. Some of the local residents were there and added some fun to our first trip to Cowan Creek. We hope to make this a regular course in our rotation.
Great course for the money. Pace of play disappointing
Mid day on a Friday was nearly 5 hours. Ouch. Never saw a Marshall on the course.
Great layout
Golf course was in good shape, could used a map of the course; but over all well maintained. Had lots of fun
, just map me out next.
