Nice course
If you live Dunwoody or Sandy Springs it's a nice course close by.
Confusing
Tucked away just outside the perimeter, this course wasn't anything special. The design is confusing and poorly marked. It is quite hilly leaving few level lies, even on tee boxes. They had a couple of over-seeded tee boxes, but you were m ore likely to be sticking a tee in sand than turf. There are a couple of holes with tight landing zones that if you miss, you're more than likely carding an 8.
Several holes have crackling power lines very much in play. It's an accomplishment that they were able to fit a course onto this piece of land, but just because you can, doesn't mean you should.
The poor signage makes this a frustrating course if you're playing for the first time, but I'm not sure I'd increase my rating upon a return visit, which is unlikely.
This course is fine to play a quick 9 if you live or work in the area, but I will not be going out of my way to return.
Great Golf Day
I played this course by myself. I had a great time. I don't know what all the fuss is about, as I had a terrific golf day. its true that it hard to navigate the course due to poor signage, but this hardly prevented my pleasure in playing a very challenging public course. I got lucky and stuck some good shots and scored well. Great clubhouse and employees were helpful.
First time playing this course
I don't know what the complaints were about this course and they are not warranted. I played alone and was not rushed. The tee boxes were fine and the greens were in good shape. The course had some interesting holes, tight and challenging. The holes were very short at times but thats ok. I do have one complaint. The course was not marked well at all. I got lost several times. The staff was great and the price was great as well. I'll be back.
Course is okay
I played the course for the first time yesterday. Although it rained two days ago, the course had many places were water was standing and the course was soggy. Bad drainage. The pace of the course slow, with many backups. I will play again another day but today the course received average ratings.
Don't waste your money
unless you just want to bang some balls on grass instead of mats.
It's been some time since I've played SC and it has drastically gone downhill. Carts won't run. Cart paths breaking up. Tee boxes are simply awful. Greens, while new bermuda, are uncut and inconsistent.
Random groups appearing on the tee box in front of you with no marshals anywhere to speed up play or control the course.
The definition of a blue jeans golf course.
(don't) slice of heaven
Ha! Play this course straight. Hit it anywhere, but don't slice. Greens run fast, but you can negotiate them if you take your time. Some tee boxes not marked (#8) for distance. Bunkers hard to get out of, nobody rakes. Overall, great value for the price paid.
Different
Tee locations poorly signed making it hard to find. Greens in excellent condition. Three people playing a round soccer to each hole (yep, soccer) in front of our group slowed the play. Weird, never seen this before!!
Tee Boxes
The value and I like the course, the greens were great, the tee boxes were not so great.
Easy layout and some challenge course.
I like this please to go play golf because close to home and price is okay.
Good to work on irons
I like playing these short exectutive type course for pace of play, challenging par 3s, and dialing in my iron lengths. On a normal course you'll get a few par 3's to test your irons, and if you're like me, driver shots may or may not be in the short grass. On executive courses, you get many more chances to use your irons on a tee box. Steel Canyon is a balance between the two. There is a par 5 & a few par 4s so it's not exclusively a Par 3 course. There are definitely some challenging holes so don't think you can coast.
I've played here at least 5 times over the past few years, and the greens were in the best shape I've ever seen. The tee boxes weren't that greatest but I was pleasantly surprised about the greens. If you're lucky, no one will be pushing you, allowing for a few "practice" shots from the tee.
Steel Canyon is a ok executive
Steel canyon is nothing wonderful but nothing bad. It is a fun course to tune up your iron game. The practice Facility is Ok they have foot golf which is fun to some people. Hole 1 and 2 are fun because they are drivable with no risk. I like 7 and 8 because those holes seem to be in the best shape. They have good sandwiches.
Great Golf Now Value
first time here and such a good value I plan to make it a regular. Greens in very good condition , fairways were generally good, 2 or 3 of the T boxes needed some grass/ work to bring up to par. Lots of elevation and slope making it good place to work on irons of varying lies. Main gripe as others have mentioned confusion in 2 or 3 instances where the next hole was or which was the right green/ need that scorecard with hole pics to figure that out in some cases. Not much traffic when we went off around 10:00 and it would have played faster had we not wasted some time lost/figuring out where to go--------maybe a little extra signage may help in that regard.
Overall conditions were good and i will be happily returning and playing more golf than usual at a very good value making more sense than buying a large bucket at a range.----this course is a good find/ thanks Golf Now
Thanks for your comments! We have changed some of our signage as you suggested and I think it is much less confusing now. We will be doing some work to the two tee boxes that we always have trouble with, and those should be very playable soon.
This course was overly crowded and poorly marked directions to holes.
Dissappointing layout of holes, directions to holes.
Thank you for your comments, geffen. Please contact me at the course, I'd like to get some more information on when you had an issue with pace of play. We have tee times every 9 or 10 minutes, compared with other courses that are often 7-8 minutes, so we rarely have problems with pace of play. Scott Busch, Owner. 770-390-0424
Get what you pay for
Play this course quite often, but this is my first review. The course is more of a practice course. Watch your shots or you will lose some balls. Greens and fairways were nice. Tee box on #11 needs GRASS!
Make sure you eat well before starting your round or order some delivery before the turn, as there is no hot food served here.
Overall, my experience was well. Staff is friendly.
Thanks for your comments. We have overseeded our two problem tees, 8 and 11, and they should be great all winter! Hope to see you again soon!
Thanks for your comments, Mario. We have overseeded the two tee boxes that we always have trouble with and they should be great going forward.
