9-holes in the Evening
Play here weekly, course is getting much need attention; wear and tear from footgolf in my opinion; be careful to call ahead, you might run into the juniors playing
Steel Canyon1
Friendly staff - good course to work on middle to short irons
Quick Golf Value in Sandy Springs
Steel Canyon is an old land-fill that has been converted into an American Links style course. It is basically an executive course, with a par 5 thrown in. The overall conditions are actually decent for a $25 course, especially the greens which were rolling fairly smoothly, and quickly
Black Friday Golf
Love the relaxed attitude and fun staff. If you want a great time and you don't mind watching people kicking soccer balls, this is the course for you, As for the condition of the course, it's very good for late November. John
Wow!!
First time playing here , very challenging but great course, well kept greens and fast , friendly staff, and great price will have to come back soon .
Course mainteance is improving.
I started playing the course back in the late fall. I have noticed a steady increase in improving the fairways and greens. I was attracted to the course due to the cost especially after using the golfnow.com hot deals.
Enjoyed
It was good especially for the value but there was no posting of the flag so on the longer holes I had no idea where the flag was located besides that everything was good.
The hardest part is the rough
The course plays pretty well except for their rough, it's horrible. Hole number 6 plan on losing a ball or two because it is unstoppable. It has a few big hills early but I like the value for the money at this course. I just get really frustrated with some of course conditions from time to time.
Thanks for your comment. You are correct, the rough on the 6th hole did get high last summer. We have a new superintendent and we will keep the rough at a much more normal level going forward. Hope to see you again soon!
I must be a glutton for punishment
I don't know why I've returned to this place. Maybe its because it's cheap to play and nearby.
Forget about taking in the grand panoramic views and Vista.. Haha
Why?..
because it's a dump, no really..It's a former landfill. Surrounded and inundated with high tension electricity through out the entire course. Hole 8 is pretty much nothing more than poorly kept tee box and green.. Sadly
The Foot Golf they offer there is a huge distraction to the more serious players but I guess they need to make money somehow.
The Staff is wonderful. I've no complaints about the staff.. Great people, but the property itself.. Not so much.. They've finally replaced their practice balls with newer ones..most of them anyway. The driving range lacks distance charts for the markers/flags.
It's mostly Mats but it's partially covered which is good thing for those hotter days.
It's cheap to play so you get what you paid for. Prepare yourself for a let down of you're hoping for a great experience.
OK for the price
My wife and I paid for a round using the hot deals from Golfnow. I'd say the cost ($32) for both us of to play was appropriate for the course. The greens of the course are mostly sand with very little grass. This was consistent on every hole, which made the round disappointing. The set-up of the course was good except, for certain holes where you were blind shooting for the green. I'd say only play this course as a beginner trying to learn, otherwise it's not worth the money or time. (Side note: there is a footgolf course tied into the golf course, so there can be overlap of golfers and foot-golfers at any time.)
Thank you for your comments. The course underwent new management just before you arrived and the sand that you experienced was part of extensive aeration on the greens which required heavy topdressing of sand. I'm glad to say that our work has paid off and our greens are perfect (and certainly no longer covered with sand). Please contact me and we'll take care of you on your next round so you can see for yourself! Also, it's worth noting that we segregate the golfers and FootGolfers so it's rare for them to come in contact with each other.
Wait a couple weeks
I'm sure this course is a lot better than what I golfed yesterday. The greens were horrible because it was aerated. The fairways were not the best. Give this course like 6-8 weeks and it would be better. Do not go if you don't like aerated greens and the scorching hot sun! I'm sure the driving range was above par.
Understanding your role
I decided to play this course with my son to celebrate my birthday. I was very disappointed with the amount of food snacks at the turn, AND the course owner (or manager, maybe) came out and told me that either I had to start teeing off from the reds or skip a hole to speed up play. He was rude. I offered to let the group behind me play through which ended up being silly because then they were holding US up on the back 9. We weren't going that slow, and the course wasn't of the quality to require him to be a jerk.
Course is hilly and not well maintained
On the day we played only the front nine was opened and the greens had been aerated and were very sandy - basically unplayable.. It would be nice when booking on line to know when the greens are being aerated.
Foot Golf a problem
I have golfed the course a number of times and for the most part, very enjoyable and reasonably priced, however, I do not like foot golf on the same course as golf. Also there were too many families with little children trying to learn golf. There should be set times for little ones and not on a Sunday in the middle of the day Paid for 18 holes but only golfed nine, Too slow with all the children out there.
Review
My first time on the course. A lot of bare spots. All the greens were bumpy covered in sand and most of them were aerated which made putting a mess. Nobody to enforce pace of play, which for an executive course to take almost 4 hours is a bit much. If the greens were better it would be worth a golf now deal, so maybe once that gets fixed it will be a better experience
Great value
Can't beat this course for the price. Nicely challenging. Cool varies in elevation. Fun course.
Fun course
We had a great time at this course. My wife and daughter are learning and they were able take their time and learn.
It's cheap but has some issues
Overall, it's a good value for the money and plays quickly. The bad news is that they have to fix several tee boxes. There's only a few par 4s and 5s, but the tee boxes are ridiculous. My pet peeve is a un-level sloping tee box, which is what you have on holes 6 and 16. if you're right handed, your ball is almost assured of going right because you are hitting the ball with a driver and the ball is sitting above your feet. This is really unacceptable especially when there are only 4 par 4s and 1 par 5 on this course. And don't get me started about tee box number 8. The white tees are nothing but dirt. Literally. No grass at all. Furthermore, this hole is absolutely ridiculous. If you go just a little right, you have lost your ball into the woods. The tee box on number 11 is just as bad as the white tees are nothing but dirt as well.
PLEASE FIX THESE TEE BOX ISSUES!!!! I have been playing this course a couple times a month for over a year, and I thought these were just temporary issues, but the course obviously has no interest in spending the minor amount of money it would take to do this. This is rather disappointing.
But at the end of the day, this course is a good value for your money when you want to get in a quick round. Just don't think you're playing Augusta National.
MaN, I AM TIRED
WITH ALL THE HILLS AND CONSTANTLY cart path only, it is a tough row to hoe for a 78 year old.
Decent
Very muddy, course is really short and have narrow fairways.
