Sad I drove all the way out there
This course just didnt have what it takes to get a good review from me. The course conditions were fairly poor with one hole being completely closed due to winter kill. The entire course is somewhat gimmicky with a few odd holes. They did however have a decent range. I would not recommend the time to drive here and pay to play.
Great course
Very nice course for the money. There was one bad green and another bad fairway and green on another hole on front nine. Other than those two issues, this course was great and challenging. Highly recommended this course to be played. Definitely be back to play it again.
Shockingly Bad
Eagle Ridge used to be one of the better courses in the Triangle. Sadly, it is now one of the worst. The only grass to be found was on the greens.
When you cannot get your course in better shape than RGA, you really have turned into a dog track.
The condition of the clubhouse, the golf course, and unfriendliness of the staff just shout "We stopped caring!".
Don't waste your time/money going here.
Hit rock bottom
Soon to be a non-member. Been there 3 years, and course has continued to decline. Members do not matter, no improvement to tee boxes or fairways, bunkers are not bad, but need improvement. They do seem to concentrate on the greens more, but still not up to par. I'm at the point, that its time to exit. Embarrassed to take anyone there to play.
Good Course
This is a quality golf course in the Raleigh area. if you are looking for a new golf course to play, make teh journey to Eagle Ridge, I think you will be pleasantly surprised when you are on the course.
Nice Course
Back 9 much more challenging than front, with 18th being a great finishing hole.
Friendly Staff and have always walked away this place on a positive note.
Slow play day of play due to tournament
The day we played River Ridge they were hosting a Captain's Choice format golf tournament. We had an 11:30AM tee time which became a 12:40 tee time due to the tournament's slow play. We then had to play behind a few of the final tournament groups as they made the turn. This issue was not a fault of the golf course. I made our tee time thru GolfNow. If I had called the course directly to make the tee time they would have informed me of the tournament and would have most likely given me the option of making a tee time for another time or day. There needs to be a system in place that allows a golf course to notify Golf Now of any tournaments or events that might be going on the day a tee time is made that may make play extremely slow. Eagle Ridge is a great facility and the staff handled things very well. They actually gave us a 9 hole rain check due to it taking us almost 3 hours to play the front 9. We stopped after 9 due to having to be elsewhere by a certain time knowing the round was going to be over 5+ hours. Yes I would play there again but the on line system needs to have alerts to these type issues.
A good Marshal should never be underrated.
Slowest round I've played all year. (30+) I have never seen so many unpaired singles; ever. There were extremely slow foursomes as well. I play fast and have been spoiled by fast play at other courses, but this was horrible. No marshal to be found anywhere. Even if it was 11:30 am on a Tuesday. No excuse. I left after playing thru three groups in "eight" holes! Almost forgot, the course is in great shape. I have not played in years because the abundance of elevated and undulating holes, but the course was in great shape. Skeleton crew last Tuesday. I only saw 1 guy in the pro shop, lady at the grill, and a young man attending to carts during my visit. The pro shop guy spoke without any type of eye contact like I mattered at the least. I hate when my hard earned money isn't appreciated.
Lots of hazards...
Course was not well maintained. Greens were pitted and sandy. Fairways were rough..
Well maintained golf course
Nice golf course, greens in great shape. Plenty of challenging holes but fair.
Unpublished Aerating without a discount!!!!
I am a pretty easy going person but I have now golfed this course three times and every single time the staff has been less than friendly. Three strikes and you are out! They overbook tee times and there is a lot of stacking up! What is upsetting me most is when I showed up yesterday they were aerating the course and it was a complete surprise as it was not posted or listed on Golfnow nor were the green fees at a significantly reduced rate as is normally the case. To top it all off we actually had to wait for them to aerate a few greens in order to take our shots, this happened on about 5 or 6 holes. We then called the proshop to ask when they had last aerated and they told us about a month ago and everything was rolling true. I do not recommend this "Aerogant", Lying, Rude course!!!!!
Awful
Atrocious in every area. When a golf round takes 5+ hrs, something needs to be done. The staff couldn't have cared less. They just collected their $.
good shape for nc in august
This course was in good shape for august in nc. Greens were a little bumpy but if golfers would just fix their own ball marks that would help all courses fix two or three a hole and I only made one per hole
Overall a good course with a few challenging, memorable holes
Have played this course many times and enjoy it typically. Sometimes it can get backed up as the clubhouse over books but overall a good value.
Very good condition
Bent greens a bit slow and slightly bumpy, otherwise all was very good.
$13 was not worth it
I was at first excited to book this course at $13 for a round considering that full price would be around $45 or $50. When I got to the course I was informed that the back nine was closed, but no notification had been added to the golfnow tee time. That was disappointing but I played the front nine twice anyway at the price I was given. The fairways needed a lot of work and the course was marked cart path only even though the course was not wet. To top it all off, at the turn, I was denied the chance to buy even a bottle of water at the pro shop. The unhelpful staff merely stated that their bar and grill was closed and was a "separate entity", so no beverages could be sold. It was 85 degrees outside, offered nothing, and were in no way apologetic. This used to be a great course, but I would be hard pressed to go back.
Not at its best
I can now see why I have not played Eagle Ridge in close to 2 years. This course used to be one of my favorites, but I guess since changing ownership (now part of the Fred Smith group of courses), it is not what it once was. This round was extremely disappointing, as holes 1-9 were closed and they advised that I needed to play holes 10-18 twice, which is not what I was looking for. When I asked to get a rain check for 9 holes since I was not interested in replaying the back 9, I was dismissed and told to follow-up with GolfNow to make it right. Given the conditions of holes 10-18, they should have been closed also...I will not be returning to Eagle Ridge anytime soon, and will probably be another 2+yrs before I return. Definitely would not pay more than $20 to play this course.
Challenging, but fair golf holes
Pros:
-Beautiful setting
-Lots of risk / reward shot options, blind landing areas
-Great putting surfaces
Cons:
-Slow pace of play
-Crab grass in tee boxes and fairways
-Took over 10 mins to get a hot dog!
A challenging course where accuracy is more important than length.
Course is in excellent condition with not over fast but very true greens. You need to hit it pretty straight on most holes though several fairways are quite wide. Good positioning opens up several birdie chances especially at five, six, and ten whereas nine is a very challenging par five over a deep ravine. Eighteen will challenge the best with a long accurate drive needed with water on the left , leaving a long iron or fairway wood to reach this excellent par four.
The staff are polite and welcoming and there is good provision for food and drink.
Thank you for your kind words! We hope to see you again at the course very soon for another 5-star experience. Thanks for choosing Eagle Ridge Golf Club.
