Greens are toast, stay away!
Course is worth about $30 for prime weekend rate. Greens are shot. Not sure if they are burnt up or have a fungus, but they are in terrible shape. Fairways are tight and firm, just not very plush for Bermuda this time of year. It’s a shame because it’s a nice layout and really close to where I live, but it’s just in awful shape right now. Shame on Carolina Lakes for charging $80 weekend rounds when the course is in this condition. Then again, hard to blame them if their tee sheets are full. However, the greens are so bad they should be notifying people when they book.
Greens terrible
Right now the greens are terrible. They all have a black fungus. In addition this course is in a retirement community played heavily by older patrons presumably with arthritis who can't seem to bend over and fix a ball mark or divot...don't pay full price. They should have a posting either online or in pro shop about terrible greens
Beware of greens!
$80 to play the worst greens I have ever played in my life. Go somewhere else!
Extremely poor conditions
Cry’s greens were the worst I’ve seen in the last 5 years. This course should be ashamed of itself for charging the highest rates for the worst conditions I’ve seen in a long time.
Crap greens
All of the employees from the starter, the Marshall to the bartender were super friendly. The course is really spaced out causing the pace of play to be really slow and the greens were in terrible condition. They need to maintain the greens if they want to charge a premium price.
Alls well that ends well
I’ll start with the good - the Director of Operations did justly acknowledge my frustrations by providing me with a full rain date pass.
Most of the greens might as well be marked as GUR - I was told the heat did them in. But I connect course conditions and value - $85 for BLACK greens doesn’t add up. From the 9th hole on there were 3 groups a hole - every drive up to the tee there was the next group still on tee (not their fault).
They do 10-minute tee times which is appropriate, but they do the crossover to maximize rounds - ultimately unless it’s executed well, that can botch up POP.
Nice layout, great staff, overused, overpriced and in rough shape (green).
Awful greens
Not just a few, but all greens where awful. Some where halfway playable but most sucked. And for $89 I should have called the cops.
Terrible greens
I had very high expectations of this course going in, for 79 dollars I feel the course should be in better condition than it is. Almost every single green had burn spots in them which I understand with the South Carolina heat, however with the condition of the greens 79 dollars is a bit steep in my opinion. The first hole even had about 5-6 stakes blocking off a large portion of the green, with the hole not being far away from the stakes. Overall the rest of the course is in good condition but the greens are absolutely awful.
Great Layout… but bad greens
This was my first time playing Carolina Lakes and I thought the course layout is great but the greens were really burnt up. I look forward to playing it in cooler weather when their greens are thriving. I felt that paying $75 was a bit steep for greens in such bad shape.
Not worth the normal $80 rate currently
Let me preface by saying I like this course, and I will be back, but probably not this year. The greens unfortunately have a blight that’s become more than just cosmetic, and for that reason I don’t think it’s fair to be charging $80 when I can play a similar course in the area for $50-60. It’s a shame because this is a good course. I just think they need to adjust
Nice But….
Great track with bad greens The bent grass greens can’t handle the heat and they get real bad this time of year. Not sure how they fix without going Bermuda but bent grass is ideal in the right climate
Should be good again in the late fall
Good challenging course
You have to think on this course. Many greens had bad spots. Otherwise, big greens with good roll. The bad spots on the greens lowers the value for the money. Tees and fairways were in good shape.
Good course
The green's need some work. Need to catch them before they loose them
Not worth the money
Greens are awful. Fairways not much better. Summer time and there is no water to drink anywhere on the course. Can’t believe I paid $82 for this.
Horrible Course
The greens were one of the worst in town with numerous dead spots throughout every hole. The staff is super oblivious to what customer service is. The round was $80+ but course conditions dictated $30 green fees. Be aware and don’t give this course your money for at least a year.
Poor visit
Course was in rough shape. Grass on greens was gone, tee boxes were terrible. No water on the course (post covid) during these 90 + degree days in SC. Would expect a lot more for spending $70+ dollars today for 18.
