Gorgeous and a blast
Sand Hollow was my first desert course, and boy did it blow me away. The colors, views, and wildlife were largely unlike anything I had seen before. The golf was just as good. The outward 9 had a links feel, with wide fairways, blind shots, and visual deception. The inward 9 was a bit more flashy. Views and scale dominate your mind during the second half of the round. It played firm and fast for me. The greens were a joy to putt on and all offered their own unique challenges. I enjoyed the front slightly more just because of the quality of those golf holes, but it was a tight race. My only qualm was with the pace of play. The front nine was approaching 3 hours for me. Despite the pace, I wouldn't hesitate to come back and play this gem again.
Must play in St. George
Great day at Sand Hollow. Fun course, with several memorable holes, especially on the back nine. Course was in fabulous shape.
Staff was terrific, both inside and out. Special mention goes to the restaurant - great food and service to match the incredible views.
Beautiful layout!
1st time playing the course.
Front 9 was wide open and deceptive with the distance because of the beautiful and open background of the rocks and desert.
Back 9 amazing views and layout with the course winding through the rocks.
Very enjoyable.
Price was excellent because I played midday twilight and nobody was crazy enough to be in the 110 degree heat. Got the round in under 2 hour.
Average course - above average price
Was told this course was an amazing experience and a must play in Southern Utah. There are a few what I call special holes on the back nine, but the front is pretty average and the rest of the back is pretty average. Even a discounted rate of $76 was too much for this course. It is a $59 course at the most.
Stunning
Sand Hollow has both great vistas and great golf holes. The course plays over, around, and through arroyos, red rocks, and wild desert. The opening 9 holes are some of the best golf in the region. But the back nine—with five holes clinging to the side of a cliff—is spectacular.
Nice lay out
Sandhollow golf course layout is very challenging. There’s some holes that if you miss it to the left you go down into the valley. Beautiful views. The greens are not flat and it is very challenging not to make a three part because of the undulation. It’s hard to hold the greens too.
Extremely poor pace of play but...
The pace of play at this course is absolutely horrid to be honest, but if you are ok with waiting for very slow players this course is worth it. This course is genuinely beautiful and extremely fun to play, the staff is also very friendly and understand that the course of consistently if not constantly backed up.
Great Experience
Really awesome course in the middle of nowhere outside St. George, Utah and a 2 hr drive from Vegas. Played it in December on my bachelor party trip.... A little chilly to start (mid 30s) but ended up in the low to mid 50s. The front nine is nice and in good shape but the back nine is what makes this course. Incredible hole designs and views on the back nine. A not so hidden gem getting a lot of national attention. Love the clubhouse design as well. For sure a five star experience!
Top-2 in Southern Utah
Love this course- played it 3 times now, always in excellent condition, scenic, even spectacular (back 9!), not unpleasantly difficult and there's a very friendly staff to start you off smiling.. The greens are superb, fairways plenty wide and play beautifully, the rough isn't penal at all unless you get into some of the rare thick nasty stuff around a green or two, the sand plays wonderfully and there's enough variety and challenge steadily increasing throughout your round to keep your attention all day. Really not to be missed if you're in the area. A little on the expensive side for me, but here you truly get what you paid extra for in beautiful scenery, a nice variety of holes and perfect course conditions.
I give VERY few 5 star reviews- this is one of them.
Favorite course in Utah!
There isn't anything I don't like about this course. The scenery is exceptional and the course is always very well maintained.
I love the variety of holes. There are some spectacular tee shots you get to hit.
I would play this course every week if I could.
Back nine bliss
Unfortunately, an hour-plus frost delay derailed the morning, causing chaos. The staff handled it well, and we decided to forego the log-jam on the front nine to tee off on no. 10.
It was a wise choice because we had the awesome back nine to ourselves with no one in front or behind. The cliffside holes from nos 12-15 are as good a four-hole stretch as anything in the southwest. The views are off the charts, and the holes really fun, mixing a short, medium and long par 4 with a stunning par 3 to wrap things up nicely.
The resort rooms, a short drive from the clubhouse, are spacious, clean and modern. Bonus points for the mini-fridge and microwave in my room. We ate breakfast and dinner in the clubhouse, both very good. I can't write enough positive things about the whole Sand Hollow experience.
Good Condition
Course was in good condition tee to green. Greens were not receptive and also had lots of undulations. Would have liked to see a quicker pace of play as we were a twosome and waited on all shots. Overall the pace was about 4.5 hours. Staff was friendly and the day was enjoyable. Seems a little overpriced but worth playing at least once.
Back nine views
It is not necessarily a fair statement, but nonetheless it is true: players navigate Sand Hollow’s Championship course’s front nine as a means to merely get to the star of the show - the inward half.
The par-3 11th hole and the par-3 15th hole bookend a breathtaking stretch that can only be fully appreciated after playing it in the last light of the afternoon. A setting sun reflecting pink light off the canyon rock is something to behold. Nos. 11, 12 and 13 are as fine a three-hole stretch as I can recall. They are especially memorable because the are not next to a body of water.
The front nine holes aren’t bad, they just pale in comparison to the grandeur of the back nine. The par 5s are short and it is possible to stockpile a few birdies on the front in preparation for hanging on later in the round.
There is GPS on the cart to assist, but beware the ball flies a little further in this dry desert air.
The bunkers are deep and are designed to play as true hazards. Loose impediments abound.
The clubhouse is a modest, yet beautiful structure that is in the style of this region. Full range.
Watch out for the rabbits! They are everywhere.

This course allowed a fivesome to play backing up the whole course. There where times we had three groups backed up on one hole. After we were done we went in for lunch and were completely ignored by the waitress who only had one other table. So we left and went somewhere else
Best views of any course I’ve played
This course is a Five Star course for views and layout.
The shape of the course was not good but that may be due to the time of year.
The amenities on the course were not what one would expect from a expensive course. The washrooms were plastic portable toilets and four coolers of water were the only refreshments available other than club house.
Thank you for reviewing the course as excellent, despite your poor experience. I wish more reviewers would do the same- accurately rate the course, then if you had issues, put them in the comments. Bravo!
